  1. Yes. I was also surprised by the Venice ranking. They get their chance to justify it this week. We will see.
  2. 1. Cardinal Gibbons should be higher 2. Batram Trail should be lower 3. Booker T. Washington just lost to Columbus who is not in the top 25 4. Apopka and Dr. Phillips - we will know more Monday evening
  3. Under a one team from each district Apopka would have 0 state titles. The three championships were all won when they were district runner up. The one time we got to state and lost, we were district champ. For that reason alone, I hope we don't go to a 1 team from each district situation. Whether it is runner up or wild card based, having other teams make it in each region gives teams that developed late a chance at the marbles.
  4. I think we are all getting hysterical a bit too soon. A lot will change before the regular season is over. At that point, the "brain trust" at the FHSAA can look at how the points system worked the first year and after careful analysis make adjustments as anomalies surface. All change has unintended consequences. It is how those are dealt with that determines whether we are going in the right direction or not. I know some other states use a points system. I don't know to what extent these were evaluated before Florida's current system was put in place.
  5. Except that depending on whether you are seeded 1 to 4, it will affect not only who you play in the first and subsequent rounds, but whether you are home or on the road.
  6. STA has struggled offensively this year. While it won't be easy, several teams in 7A at least have a chance to beat them this year. They are not a lock to win the State title.
  7. I think Venice was better last year. And St. Thomas destroyed them then. I would be surprised if Venice gets with 21 of IMG. I just don't see how they do it.
  8. Jessica, very good analysis! You know your 3A.
  9. I saw that too. In fact even one of their commentators though it was going to be a flag but quickly shut his mouth when he realized it was not called. I also saw a face mask called which did not seem that way to me and others. The funny thing is that commentators kept stressing that a loss by MNW would not affect your quest for a State Title. However, a loss by IMG would affect their National Ranking. I found that profoundly arrogant since an undefeated MNW would also be in the National conversation. It is what it is.
  10. If Mainland plays up to its potential it will be a good game. If there play is consistent with some of their previous games this season, then Cocoa wins relatively easily. To be or not to be ...
  11. Man, that's messed up. Hope no one got seriously hurt. Sounds like it was a good game. Dillard will probably be playoff bound after the slow start.
  12. They have the offensive weapons to score on most high school teams. However, I was not very impressed with their defense. Although LB was down 22-0 early in the 3rd, they had squandered several chances early in the game including a fumble at the Lake Mary 10 on their first drive of the night (which lasted 8.5 minutes), and suffered several drive killing penalties after moving the ball with relative ease. I don't see them being able to beat Seminole. They could squeak by OC University, but only if University makes a lot of mistakes and fails to convert its chances. Also, with the new system, they could squeak into the playoffs as a third team from that district depending on how the other districts in region 1 play out.
  13. Panther, did anyone get shot? I sure hope not. No need to get wounded or lose your life over a football game.
  14. Topnotch, very good assessment of the game which I watched on youtube. For any high school team to beat IMG, it is essential they play mistake free football MNW did not play mistake free ball and they paid the price. I thought the officials overly favored IMG. But at the end of the day, it probably did not affect the final outcome. Northwestern's season is by no means done. But they need to get by Central and a dangerous Norland team.
  15. Very entertaining game that was not decided till the final seconds ticked off. Lake Mary had a 22-0 lead early in the third quarter. However, by midway though the fourth the score was 22 all. LM then proceeded to score on a nice, clock eating drive to take a 29-22 lead with about 2:30 left in the game. I started to head for the exits at this time as there was a large crowd at the game and I did not want to get boxed in. But Lake Brantley scored in two plays to tie the game at 29 with about 1:25 left o the clock. Lake Mary then drove down to the LB 15 with 8 seconds on the clock. I figured they would kick the field goal, as their kicker is decent. But the went for it on 3rd down and on a fade, the receiver seemed to catch the ball just out of bounds from my angle. However, the official, who was right on the play, signaled touchdown with three seconds on the clock. LB took the ensuing kickoff to about the 35 where the return man was pushed out of bounds, ending the game. While I don't see either team going deep in the playoffs, from an entertainment standpoint, I more than got my money's worth!
  16. Yes. I have provided them with football and soccer scores in the past when they were not posted results timely. My experience is that they usually posted them within 24 hours after I provided them. This led me to believe that they first sought secondary verification before they actually posted them. Given Maxpreps now has an arrangement with the FHSAA, I would have thought that they would invest more resources in the accuracy of Florida information. It would seem that having an administrator from each member school provide the data would be the way to obtain the most accurate information. However, after seeing no improvement in reliability, something seems to have fallen through the cracks. Not sure how this score got in there to begin with. I could be wrong, but I don't think BM was scheduled to play Titusville this year. It may have been a make-up game for one that was cancelled because of weather related issues. But I am pretty sure it was not on their original schedule.
  17. It's really not your fault. Maxpreps should be a reliable source of information. The scores they post are obtained from its members. However, you would think they would verify the information before posting it.
  18. Jessica, i don't believe Bishop Moore lost to Titusville this year. This is another MaxPreps error. No fault of yours that a company owned by CBS can't keep better statistics.
  19. It depends on the source of the state funds. If they were grant in aid appropriations (state grant money), the information should be publicly available. You would just need to find out what state department or agency the grant came from (source). If it were not state grant money (some other state source), then it could easily be hidden.
  20. Normally, the money goes only to companies that actually do the hiring. It is very easy to come up with the rationale that you "fill restaurants and hotels", but it is a lot harder to quantify the effect. Bottom line is: this company probably should not be getting taxpayer dollars.
  21. Normally, no. But the well connected with a bevy of lobbyists, often find a way. State tax dollars usually go to for profit corporations only when one of the following applies: 1. As an incentive to stay in or move to Florida when a lot of jobs are at stake; 2. For the provision of goods or services to the State (payment for services rendered). IMG's parent getting money is troubling to me, as I don't think either apply.
  22. He likes the Michigan helmet design!
  23. I would much rather my taxes be used to support: Columbia, Venice, Miami Northwestern, Apopka, Cocoa, Fort Myers, Armwood, Dillard ... You get the picture. I don't think a for Profit Corporation that does not significantly contribute to employment opportunities in the state should be handed my hard earned money.
  24. The world changes, my friend. If you wanted to coach at Columbia with a burning passion, there is probably a way. It would not be easy, and there would be resistance. However, things do change. If it is worth it to you, then you should do whatever it takes to make it a reality. Sometimes the perspective of a non player can be a very useful thing. You are less likely to be "married" to a particular way of doing things. A good football player may not have a good football mind. Likewise, a good football mind does not mean you have had to be a player.
