  1. Not sure...I'm down in Broward and do not know what players transferred into Jones, but the article listed several schools.

No closings. The transfers were from: Phillips, Edgewater Boone, and Evans, mostly. Most of the Dp and Boone transfers may have been originally zoned for Jones and have now decided to return home based on last season. Regarding Edgewater and Evans, I can only guess that they chose to transfer due to both schools doing poorly in recent years. The Apopka/Edgewater game which used to be the game of the week in Orlando for a long time was cancelled this year. That's how bad it has gotten.

  2. Allegedly he was involved with a minor who was one of his students.. Heard about firing a couple months ago but I'm sure if you Google it you will find more about it.

That's not smart. And it cost him. Pity Edison's chances are ruined as a result.

Is this Topnotch that used to rep the Bulls on the Florida Varsity Board? Man you haven't posted in a long time.

  3. Next argument will be that South Florida publics can compete with STA

    SO WHAT?!!

They not playing South Florida publics at state and teams in the north don't get the depth to South Florida and that's all because the demographics don't situate the same up here

We don't have 50+ D1 athletes within a 5-10 mile radius like broward and Dade County

Even if they don't all go to STA they still got it a hell a lot easier then any north Florida public

Guarantee that rate exists no where in the true North Florida area

People's opinions don't change easily. There are a number of reasons for this: 1. It is hard to admit you are wrong.; 2. The opinion may be based on a belief that advantages the holder of the opinion; 3. Beliefs and attitudes get ingrained over time (it is one of the reasons why in certain companies and industries, older, experience people are not hired); and there are a number of other reasons, which I will leave to the imagination of readers.

Most of the discussions/arguments held around opinions usually go nowhere in the sense that none of the participants change or even modify there beliefs (at least not publicly). However, for some reason (perhaps having to do with our inbuilt irrationality), this does not affect the prevalence of these arguments/discussions. Hence, the thriving (at least formerly), National Board. I dare say that to many individuals these arguments are a substitute for war and are inbuilt into our phyche over the course of our history on this planet.

Once you understand this, you see the frequent debates/arguments/discussions in a new light. For me, I share my thoughts when I think they will be productive and avoid some of the discussions that I think will go nowhere. But each person needs to evaluate their reason for posting and act accordingly.

  4. STA does not get the best of the best across the board. But they do get many very good play-makers, some of of whom are the best. Their chief strength, though, is their depth, which is not matched by 99% of the public schools.

That said, this year, is a fluke situation for sure. I am pretty sure if you take the last 10 NFL drafts, this year's situation holds very infrequently.

  5.

    Truly incredible stat

Not that surprised by Cypress Bay. Both of the Cypress Bay picks had great games against Apopka in the 2012 title game. The big O lineman punished us up front and Matt D had a ton of rushing yards. Now St. Thomas having no picks is surprising. If I remember right, they destroyed Lincoln in the 2012 title game and it is a bit surprising no members of that team were taken this year. Without checking, perhaps the better ones were drafted as Juniors last year.

  6. Broward, as I posted elsewhere, this young man should probably go to an institution that focuses on: discipline, getting his academics in order, getting his life back in order. This young man seems to have already repeated grades twice. In addition, he and other youth held up a child and took his stuff.

At this stage, more importantly than football, he needs life intervention. For if he does not get this, any gains he has from playing high school ball and possibly college ball will most likely be squandered off the field. For you can have all the talent in the world, but if you lack maturity and discipline, you will surely waste it. He does not seem to be where he needs to be head wise at this  stage.I don't think giving him a pass to play his final school of high school football will necessarily encourage him to get his act together.

  7. 0, ZERO!

That is the number of Flanagan starters returning and all Varsity Coaches returning combined.

That is unbelievable! Not a single coach or starter? Darn, even in the pros you don't have that kind of movement. Somehow, while I understand what drives this, I feel it cheapens the game. But I am an old guy, so what do I know.

  8. Cardinal Gibbons will likely be the biggest hurdle locally here in SFL for AHP.  I'm hearing Jones, and you can never count Bishop Moore either will also be contenders in Region 4.   Not sure what is going on over in Region 3 right now but I would imagine Tampa Jesuit would be a contender there.

At the end of last season, Jones would have beaten several, if not most, of the better 8a Orlando area teams. When Williams took the Jones job, he brought a lot of Oak Ridge underclassmen with him. Most will be back for their senior season. Additionally, a 4* who sat out last year with an injury is healthy and should be back for a big senior season. So I would have to think that Region 4 is going to be very tough in 5a, particularly if Cardinal Gibbons is as good as they were last year. Add in the Jax area and that region/district is going to be very tough as well. Top to bottom 5a, even if the best team in the State does not reside in it, may end up being the best classification in Florida.

  9. You would think with us playing st Thomas every year or a team like central or carol city in the playoffs win or lose u will see where you can do differently & model yourself after them. Smh

Exactly. You play good to great competition every year. It is not as if Dillard is in a small, talent poor county. There are examples that can be copied/emulated to make the team better.

And, I can say personally from the Dillard game I attended last year, that your 2016 team had decent talent. It may not have been enough to beat a St. Thomas or Carol City, but it was good enough to at least remain in the game for a half.

  10. I doubt it this have been a ongoing issue for the past 10 plus years add that with players being able to do what they feel like in practice and also complaining that half the time a good amount of coaches don't show up to practice smh what my panthers is missing is a championship DNA nobody in the locker room or coaching if I'm not mistaking has never won or coached a team to a football championship so none of them knows how it feels or what it takes to get there ...I don't expect nothing mind blowing from Dillard this year but who knows what will happen 1 fake at a time with that transfer we got got from chaminade I guess we're kind of moving in the right direction

At Apopka, any coach that doesn't show up to practice and don't have a d!@n good reason won't be coaching there for very long. Also, the same applies to all players regardless of whether they are "stars", starters, special teams players or on the bench. If you can't abide by this, there are some 30+ other public schools in greater Central Florida you can transfer to. The football season is taken very seriously and regardless of whether the Apopka team has a live chance at a State Title in a given season or exit in the first round of the playoffs it does not matter. Each game, playoff, district, or just regular season match is taken very seriously.

One thing I will say, if Apopka loses it is not because all actors involved don't give it there all. Apopka may lose some games it could have won, but each loss is taken very seriously and is regarded as a learning/teaching experience. This is the reason Darlington has won three state titles at Apopka, while none of his predecessors was able to win a single one. It is not as if the demographics at the school have fundamentally changed; nor has the current regime placed a priority at trying to recruit its way to success.

  11. Jones high school is attracting a lot of talent from surrounding schools with the studs they already had. Moved from 4a to 5a... Making a lot of 5a teams nervous. Lost 2nd round last year to Cocoa my a TD.

Jones could be a real factor in 5a. They will be at their best since Whitfield went there. I expect them to be a threat in 5a.

  12. Definitely a blow to Vanguard. Apparently a lot of kids in the Ocala area have been landing at East Ridge the last few years. Any chance East Ridge could be a sleeper team if they get a couple more horses?

East Ridge was a very solid team from 2003 through 2007. Was well coached and had solid talent, and had something like a  40 game regular season win streak at one stage including one over Apopka. I remember one second round playoff game between them and Edgewater which was won by Edgewater by less than a touchdown, drew like 5-7 thousand fans. East Ridge's stadium is in a mini valley and I remember a lot of fans watched the game for free from the top of the hill surrounding the stadium. The lead changed hands several times during the game before Edgewater pulled it out on a big play score and then a goal line stand.

East Ridge is under "new management" today. However, if some of the Lake Minneola kids return, as well as the better South Lake kids, and if they continue to draw transfers from Ocala or elsewhere, I could certainly see them being a factor going forward. It helps that they play in a wide open district which has had average talent recently; so making the playoffs should not be that difficult, as they will probably win the district.

  13. And perhaps another big move....

Central FL or any posters, can you confirm that 2018, 4* WR, Texas commit, Justin Watkins has transferred from Vanguard to East Ridge?

Confirmed. It is a big deal. Not sure how good East Ridge is going to be, though. They have yet to recover from the opening of Lake Minneola.

  14. Same in Dade and Broward. For the most part, if you're in Miami-Dade County and can take the bus. Certain places you can take the Metrorail. Booker T Washington is steps from one train stop.

Or for that matter, in a good part of Metro Orlando. Bottom line is: large, urban counties are going to provide a huge advantage for schools that want to strengthen their programs under the new rules.

  15. Just a thought. I am wondering how all of these players, that transfer from one school to another, are able to get to their new school? I know that transferring from any school in Florida to another school in Florida is now valid in the state of Florida. However, some of the schools may be long distances away from their original school. I would imagine that bus transportation is only provided for your school in the original school district. I would also think that few families can just up and move to a new school district. In some cases the players themselves may be able to drive their cars or their parents may drive them. Since so many players are now transferring every 5 minutes I'm wondering how they accomplish the transportation issue?

In heavily populated, urban areas this is less of a problem. Thus, in Orlando, Tampa, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and Jacksonville, it is not as difficult as it may seem. Further, the distance from South Broward County to North Dade County is not that far and many of the schools on either side of the border are closer to each other than other schools in their own county may be. This applies to Orlando as well where Wekiva and Apopka which are in Orange County are both within eight miles of Lake Brantley, which is in Seminole County and some of the kids zoned for Apopka/Wekiva are actually closer to Lake Brantley than than they are to their zoned school.

Other factors to consider: the kid may have relatives in the new zone regardless of county of residence; the kid may drive; the kid may be able to get a ride from "a helpful adult." In large urban areas, the the new transfer rules are much more helpful than in less populated areas in the state.

The end result of the above is that, at least in the short run, it is going to get increasingly difficult for public schools in less dense population areas of the state to win, or for that matter go deep, in the playoffs.

  16. Well we bring back two Sr WRs two Jr WRs and our now four year starting RB Akeem Dixion.....we got a Jr transfer

QB that has started on Varsity since his Freshman year.We also have Four star DE that transfered to Vero last month but the defense maybe a lil soft this year up the gut....but we'll see.

Vero has a very tough game on its hands. For what it's worth, Oscar Smith has a new head coach as last year's HBC succumbed to cancer in February. The bad news is the new HBC is their long time Defensive Coordinator.

The last two years, Oscar Smith was state runner up in Virginia's class 6A. They lost both title game to the same team twice in a row. Both games were decided in overtime.  If Vero can keep it close, I would say that would be a victory. If Vero wins, it would be a very good achievement. Regardless, it should be a great experience for the kids!
