Guess we lucky to be such a large school and still have multiple generations play at Columbia lol

Columbia is a basically a large rural school.  It would be nice to have a classification just for those schools. Maybe do a small school rural combining some 1A -4A and a large school rural combining 5A-up rural based on county population.

  2. The main problem we have in Florida is areas are growing so fast that people don't have time to build an allegiance to a neighborhood school before there is a new one built and they are going somewhere else.  I grew up in Brandon my sister went to Brandon High my sister was a senior at Brandon and I was a sophomore at Armwood by the time I was a senior,  sophomores in my neighborhood were assigned to Bloomingdale.  My son plays for Port St Joe and it is neat to see some of these kids playing for the same team their fathers, grandfathers, and some cases great grandfathers played for.

I use to think that ...talent wise and speed ? Yeah but overall Naw I got to give that to Texas or NJ or Cali or suem them states especially Texas LIVE BLEED & DIE Football have u seen there stadiums their fans the support they get the boosters in those states they don't play they have college type atmoshpehers at their games where as in down here in Florida particularly South fl we got raw talent yes but support let's not even get on that it's border line terrible especially at the black schools it's more of a fashion show and social media meet up no 1 cares about the game home team scores a touchdown half the stadium don't even know it and it's hardly any cheers because half the stadium is in their phones walking around or running their mouth  !! Other states go to some of their home games the entire home side is in 1 color face paint body paint jumping up in down oh oh oh ....oh oh oh oh oh..chanting just going crazy....& let's not get started on the coaching ...its not even comparable half the coaches up north & in other states would run circles around 90% of the Florida schools down here I love my alma mater but do we have that kind of coaching staff or a TRUE HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE. .he'll naw for once I would like to go to a high school football game where you can feel the intensity u can feel the love for the game in the air.

If you want passion and atmosphere then travel to some of the rural areas of the state.  There may hot be as much raw talent on the field as you have at the sofla schools but the electricity in the air is something to behold.  When you have the whole town show up for a game from 8 months to 88 years old.  The smoke billowing from the grill with the best tasting burnt hotdogs and hamburgers you ever had. A cup of hot chocolate to take the chill off and the home team announcer getting overly excited because nephew made his first tackle. Everybody needs to catch one of these games this year there may not be a D1 prospect on the field but to the players and fans its the pride of your home town on the line.

Springfield Rutherford hasn't been a real player since the days of coach Hardin. Good to see them back.

They have Loren Tillman now as HC, he is a solid coach and has done well in the past at Bozeman and Wewahitchka.  The past few years Rutherford has only had 15-20 players on their team but they have 53 on their roster currently.  I imagine by the end of the year Tillman will have them in contention.

I've decided that during the season I'm only going to do a top 5 for 1a-4a

    I'll still do top 10 in 5a-8a

How about a top 25 1A - 4A  since so many teams have moved classifications and some teams are playing higher classification competition.  It will probably be easier on you.  Also I wouldn't be surprised if they start combining these classes in future years especially if a team like Trenton makes a run in 4A.

  6. They are 4A  for 2017 but I imagine they will be 5A for 2018.  East gadsden had Corey Fuller (Godby) as head coach and he got the program headed in the right direction and I believe the West Gadsden coach was taking over and he really did some good things at West Gadsden.

Surely they're not playing as a 1A team this fall....

No it looks like they are playing mostly 4A and up. I think they may turn some heads this year.  PSJ was scheduled to play West Gadsden but they dropped all of their games for East Gadsden's schedule.

  8. I am constantly hearing people bash the "younger" generation and lamenting about the future of our Country.  I am pleased to know a good number of fine upstanding young men here in our area that gives me a lot of hope for the future.  I am also very pleased to say that in traveling to various football camps around the state that it is not just my town but everywhere I go that these great young men can be found.  The majority of the boys are hard working, well mannered, and respectful.  Parents, coaches, and teachers look to be doing a fine job in molding our future leaders.  Whether the kids are from Port St Joe or Miami most of them seem to be of great character, it doesn't matter their race or religion.  I know the media likes to show examples of our young men when they make mistakes but that is not a true representation of what is out there.  I know this is a little off topic but I truly believe that the commitment that it takes to play football has a big part in building these young men's character.  Let's not be afraid to praise these young men and give whatever time we can. The future is indeed bright.

  9. I know a couple of years ago Chipley High School had a girl playing on their Varsity football team.  I personally think they should do away with gender in sports and just have the best players represent each school in every sport no matter their gender.  This would save schools money and free up space in the yearbooks that are currently covering multiple sports in each gender.  Heck this could carry over into the olympic games and we could cut that down to 1 week.:)

  10. I remember watching an interview with Bobby Bowden in the mid to late 90s in which he was asked why he didn't run as many trick plays as he used to.  He answered that he usually didn't have as good of players back then so he had to run trick plays but now he had the better players and as long as they executed he should win.

  11. It's that time again Down and Dirty lineman camp in Lake Wales. There are still openings in session 1, June 20-June 22.  Camp is 250 including room and board.  Session 2 June 23-25 is sold out.  This is a great camp with great coaching and some of the top linemen in the country.  Players are separated by size, age, and skill level. My son will be attending for his 4th and final year and has benefited immensely. Players can attend with their team or alone. http://www.abcsportscamps.com/downanddirty

Towards 7 on 7 tournaments and evaluation yes

    To ranking teams no

But kickoff classics are FAR MORE COMPETITIVE AND SHOW A LOT ABOUT A TEAM'S TALENT then 7 on 7, its treated by some like a offical game

Kickoff Classics are treated like regular games by some coaches but other coaches use them to much like NFL teams use their preseason, to evaluate talent and work out any kinks before the regular season.  I try not to read to much into spring games or kickoff classics.

If a website ever had authentic box scores available, I would gladly pay for it. Newspapers are a little help but it is hard to chase down box scores in different papers from nearly 600 teams.  I enjoy the element of box scores when breaking down matchups. I think we sometimes get caught up in final scores without watching or breaking down games when we try to access matchups.

The problem is most of the stats are kept by the coaches.  Depending on who that duty falls to weighs heavily on the accuracy of the stats.  Position coaches tend to key on their guys.

  14. PSJ vs Holmes County

    1st Quarter   PSJ JV - 8      HC JV - 0

    2nd              PSJ Varsity - 16     HC Varsity -0

    3rd               PSj Varsity - 0       HC Varsity-14

    4th                PSJ JV    -6         HC Varsity -14

Pretty good night of football some new faces making big plays.  Have some key players that missed the spring with injuries if they are able to return by fall  PSJ should be solid.
