Crazy stat - Dr. Phillips & Apopka have represented “the north” 6 out of the past 9 years in the large class state championship game (67%).
Only other teams:
2018: Mandarin
2015: Osceola
2011: Plant

If I didn’t have the time to put the effort in I wouldn’t be a part of it. I can see how regional representation could suffer without a voter in each area... but hey at least we have Josh. He does it right and represents all of the state’s regions well.
-
Too many people on the AP voting committee don’t put any effort into it.
Their preseason rankings are basically the previous season results plus teams with obviously loaded senior classes (see Wekiva last season).
The week 11 poll is basically a standings list. That’s the more interesting poll to extrapolate forward to playoff performance. I believe DP was unranked week 11 in 2016 and 2017 (8-2 both years, loaded schedule), and both years they made the title game (won in 17).

(these are not the OS rankings, but they will be very similar minus Brevard)

pipe dreams, taking input from the board... a pillar of the community
-
Ranking and schedules adjusted to include Cocoa, Rockledge, Viera. Could see 1-3 more Brevard teams move in.
Example spreads from #1 added to show parity.
-
I will incorporate Brevard soon.
Cocoa #1-3
Rockledge #3-6
Viera #11-13

knew badbird was guru, liked the name guru better.
badbird/guru, remember when Berry’s son for Apopka punted in the 4th qtr vs DP in 2005, up 16-13, evading the SURE sack/block/fumble on the 1 while being tackled, and DP fumbled the punt return ???
We had y’all. Crazy 14-point play.
badbird and I have actually been on opposing sidelines, head coach (APK) vs player (DP). I missed the first 6 games that year with a broken fibula. I’m sure Guru is relieved of that fact (ha)
-
Guru is in it!
Legendary film. Can’t find it anywhere.
-
Games between ranked teams added to original post (edit).
-
Out of Brevard I’d include Cocoa (~ #1-4) and Rockledge (~ #6-8). Likely Viera as well.
It’s tough to gauge Brevard comparatively because they tend to play other coastal teams (north and south of Brevard) and don’t have representation in 8A (where a ton of Orlando metro teams are placed).
-
SIDE NOTE.. The top 8 to 10 teams in the ranking are very close. We’ll see who rises to the top... for the most part they all play each other.
-
Without Hamilton I should drop them a few spots... Didn’t know that.
-
DP has 9 guys with D1 offers and 6-7 with D1-AA offers. They’re certainly in the 8A North conversation but there are about 8-10 real contenders at this point.
Last year they were very young. The talent is spread across the 2020, 2021 and 2022 classes.
2022 could be a special class for DP.
-
Apopka also lost to Seabreeze 36-0 one year in the spring. Other years they play total cupcakes in the spring.
New coach, Hamilton at RB/wherever, giving them time.
We’re splitting hairs from 2 to 11. Tons of parity expected. Ranking holds.

Damn South Florida is loaded.
They could sweep 4A thru 7A, with a toss up in 8A. Not sure about the lower classes.
Northwestern, Central and Carol City were the biggest winners in the 2019 realignment.
-
Stephen Dix is primed for another big year, definitely looks like a potential NFL talent
-
8A north has always been one of the most interesting mini-brackets in the state. It used to be 6A north until 2011. Year in and year out there are 5-8 serious state title contenders out of 8A Region 1 and 8A Region 2.
This has been my primary focus since ~2011. I focus primarily on these teams as well as other state contenders from 4A up. Here is my list of potentially lethal playoff contenders as well as potential dark horses, with my top 10 in CAPS. Asterisks given to Top 5

Lake Mary was my riskiest bet here. I don’t hedge, I try to do season-ending rankings week 0 and my gut says Lake Mary will be an outlier.
Lake Mary has talent at WR, will put up big points. I’m very high on their QB as I am McClain of Seminole. The two teams are very similar.
