Then neither is Apopka or anybody in 8A Dan. I'll take that.
Think much of the speculation, a long with some truth, was that Mainland, Apopka, and Miami Central all were free to play someone on week 11. There was contact....

Heard MC maybe playing IMG
I'd pay to see that one

Anybody that saw the BTW/Raines title game and didn't believe Raines could have won it is living in denial. Battle tested BookerT, with a freshman QB, handled the pressure and the Jax. team choked.
Choked is too strong and misleading. Championship atmosphere, nerve's, mistakes, unfamiliarity, big stage, etc. No disrespect meant to Raines. They had an abundance of talent.

Dr. Phillips laid an egg vs Mainland -- their best opponent but also their worst performance of the year. Bad week to play poorly. DP is better than Dan gives them credit for
Pipe, that might be true, but it's a fact that Mainland has beaten DP by more then 20pts in each of the last two years. Just "maybe" the Bucs are by far the best team to face Dr Philips. And just to clarify, DP isn't close to the level of Miami Central (IMO).

I see on twitter that Mainland wants to schedule a game with Central and I find that funny....
Zoe, unlike MC's district, Mainland's district is extremely weak this year and they need a week 11 opponent to stay sharp. 7A Bartram Trail and 8A Dr Phillips weren't much competition. The 'Cane knocked the Cocoa game out also. Mainland plays to the level of its competition. Regardless of the outcome, MC would make Mainland a better team, and get them ready for Dade County and the world.

Great run MC. No one gave the Rockets anything. They earned it all on the field. Much respect to a program that's as good as any in the country. That district is something else, best in America

Nice list BrowardHC'er, but I'd put 6A Naples between Northwestern & Norland.

School boards have to error on the side of caution. The only shame being Saturday night will most probably be clear and beautiful. Whether Cocoa's stadium is still standing, that won't be known until late Friday afternoon. Go Tigers... see you in O-TOWN

They got robbed at Notre Dame, cost them a title, and took it out on the LonghornsWho got the brunt of the other 27 in 1987? Texas?

No dog in the fight, but over the summer, at the USF 7 on 7 in Tampa, the Avon Park skill position players were very impressive. They played aggressively and looked alot like the Armwood team. I'M not surprised that someone is touting their accomplishmentsYou're taking shots at Avon Park's schedule but touting Jones? Come on, man, Jones's opponents are 1-4,1-4,0-5,2-4,1-5,2-5. Apply the same standard then.

East Central Florida's regular season "Game of the Year."

BG wears Cocoa down and thrashes them. STA plays BG even. BTW beats STA. Miami Central crushes BTW. Carol City beats down MC. Are IMG and AH-P the only Florida monsters in 2016?

Well.. upon further reflection, and a Google to the FHSAA football Championship archives a few numbers refreshed my fading memory
Total Yards: Nease-191, BTW-468
Penalties: Nease-5 for 30yrds., BTW-17 for 146yrds
Good thing those refs didn't have an agenda, or the penalty disparity and when those flags were thrown(17) or not thrown(5) "might" come into question.

You are correct Darter. The superior team (BTW) edged Nease for the title.Dan, maybe you are being a bit hard. The crew left much to be desired, but I am not sure they made intentional bad calls. The good news is that it did not affect the final outcome in terms of who won if I remember correctly.
-
Good question. Guess you had to be there to get my biased perspective. Just one man's opinion, fwiwWhy would a Panhandle crew be biased about Nease BTW? For the record I didn't see the game....just neither team
Is from the Panhandle lol

Hopefully you fella's aren't questioning the integrity of high school referees. In particular those from NW Florida. Anyone see the 2007 Nease/BTW Championship game in Orlando officiated by a panhandle crew ? If you did no explanation is needed. It was a tragic case of supposed unbiased adults with an agenda. I got the FHSAA involved. Don't believe anything ever came of it.

2nd and 3rd place teams got to travel against #1's. Whether the cost for the Bulls to go to Niceville in the 1st round is justified, it beats the hell out of them playing Central out of the gate. That's no different from what we have now.So you would have MNW playing somewhere in the central fl in the playoffs playing a 1st rd matchup against armwood and send Carol City somewhere in the southwest fl to contend with possible 1st round games against Naples or something like that? If that's the case I like it...

This old dinosaur might be slowly coming around to these major changes in Florida high school football. I particularly like the idea that three(4's to many) schools can come from the same district and quality for the state playoffs. In 6A the panhandle might get three, and Miami Central, Miami Northwestern, and Carol City from that district could all get in. I say spread the teams around. Is the Miami area that good ? Is the panhandle that weak ? When 2 or 3 from the same district make it to the final four we'll have the answer...not BS speculation.

Apopka would give Mainland a much tougher time then DP. Who see's that offense with those athletes ? Only teams that play them yearly get enough practice time to work on defending it. Once in a bluemoon type teams have trouble. In two years I never saw the "fight" in DP. They knew they were going to get beat. Mainland could be 5-5 and they would always think they were the better team and fight like hell to prove it. It's a chip on the shoulder syndrome. Real or imagined they must prove themselves. They play like a Dade County team. They don't have the same athletes, but they're clueless to the fact.... Buc to my last breath
