Cocoa beach!. My hats off to the Head coach of that program. He has had a complete turnaround this year there. A perennial 1-9, 0-10 program. We have talked during the year. He has similar issues that I have. He is headed in the right direction.

Thanks to all. I never thought at week 10 with 1 game to go Poinciana would be sitting 7-2. I am only a small part of how all of this happened. Coaches and players all working together and believing in the system. Unfortunately we are just now finally hitting on all cylinders. With the season winding down.  The game we played last night was the most complete game we have played as a team. All facets of the game worked well. Hardee is no slouch, they are a well disciplined and expertly put together team. All of the things that have gone wrong for us in the past went right for a change. This was the best officiated game I have been in all year. Big shout out to Gulf coast football officials association. (and no, all the penalties didn't go against the other team)
The bowl game is set for Wednesday 11/9/2022 at Poinciana High school vs St. Cloud High School
This game will be a very tough one for us. But we really need to play them to see where we are as a team.
First we must beat Liberty Friday night. 15 years loosing this rivalry hopefully will come to an end.
I must also thank my administration for believing in the process. When they hired me I told them this was going to be a long process. This year being my 4th, I am now the longest tenured coach in the schools history. I feel we are still in the beginning process of this. One good year doesn't fix anything. But it is a heck of a start. We hit rock bottom last year having kicked all our seniors off the team. The kids who came in this year came with a great attitude. They are coach-able. They are good students and most of all great leaders.

Thank you for the kind words. I think you are being a little hard on the Kowboys. I do believe that you have a good shot at making the state championship game and, perhaps, getting that elusive title twenty four years after the 1998 team that had the great Willie Green and Mascoe's dad on it.

Congrats on the win Darter as your defense was able to limit the Seminole offense to 23 points which if you haven't seen the Seminole offense that is quite a feat.  Our defense was able to do that also, we just need to learn as your team has over the years how to seal the deal in those type games.  You hit the field goal with the game on the line, while we missed an assignment leading to the blocked PAT that cost us that game.   Good luck to a class program throughout the playoffs.

Thats a double edge sword. If I was in charge of preseason rankings. I would consider last years performance, The past 5 years trend. Strength of the new seasons schedule based on where other teams finished the prior year. This would still just be a guess. But how can a team that has never competed in a high school football game be raked above a team who has competed. Even if that team is 0-10. They have a history at least.
    So yes and no.
Teams who have poor records and performance at the beginning of the year are rated very low.

All I am trying to do is put it out there that because we are who we are we get sub-par officiating more often than not. Do I expect an official to see this and say, wow we could do better. Absolutely not! What is frustrating as a coach is the lack of respect for a program shown by the officials association. But if I say nothing then I am part of the problem. I have contacted the officials association. I have filled out reviews of officiating. Still nothing happens. I was told directly by the officials that my game doesn't matter therefore 4 officials is all we get because they are short and other games are more important.
I guess i could just shut up, sit back and be compliant.

Working the halls is what we do every day. From players to coaches even admin helps. Our situation may be different than others. I am not in their halls so I cant attest to what goes on. We commonly hear, football sucks so we arent going to play! I only play basketball or another sport! I work lunch duty as a volunteer to make myself present and available to all the student body. My players are most likely the best help recruiting the halls. This year we are experiencing a change. We still have kids changing their mind and wanting to jump on the band wagon. But, we finally have a band wagon worth jumping on. We never quit coaching a player. Doesnt matter how skilled they are, or their lack of skill. We are teaching football 101 every day as most of our kids never played before high school.  We have converted some of the kids who wanted to quit for various reasons to managers, permanent ball boys or what ever else that could keep them in and interested.

If there was a system that moved up the best teams to the next higher class and moved down the worst teams to the next lower class. This would/could promote parity among teams in the playoff structure. You must understand where I am coming from with this. I coach a perennially worst team when it comes to playoffs. Having said that I do see both sides of the coin. We are a 8a /4s school based on student body. Which is how schools are classified in Florida. Is this system fair to all? Absolutely no! But can there be a system that is fair to all? Absolutely no! So how can this be fixed?
    1. There could be a system that actually looks at demographics and school history and ability which places schools in districts where they could be competitive. (what i mean is mainstream, shouldn't move a school down if they would be a upper tier school in that classification, nor should they be moved up if they would be a lower tier team) Adjustments could be made looking at subsequent performance.
    2. We could move teams up or down a class based on the previous X number of years performance. throwing out one good and one bad year to keep things stable in the calculations. (does this just promote mediocre performance?)
    3. keep things as they are, but allow sub par teams to form their own particular bowl game structure (Not playoff) Giving those schools the ability to play for something that is tangible for the teams who cannot compete in the FHSAA playoff structure.
    4. Stop school of choice for athletics (require any player who transfers from one school to another without a verified physical move, sit out a year.) This fulfills the states initiative for school of choice but doesn't allow it to promote athletic recruiting.
The overall answer shouldn't be a way to water down who is the best! It shouldn't be give a trophy to everyone who participates. It shouldn't be a way to hand out championship trophies!
These are just some possibilities. All, I am sure have been mentioned before. Coaches will coach, players will play, alumni and parents will continue to complain. Is there a fix?  Does it need a fix?  This is just some food for thought.
