Yes, a team that is head and shoulders above all others will manage to win whether at home or on the road. If the difference isn't as pronounced, home field advantage makes a difference. That's fine (assuming the team with the advantage has done something to deserve it over the others). I think it's generally silly to think home field advantage doesn't make any difference.

This year's Lakeland team isn't as good as last year's team. If they happen to be the best in 4S, it's by a small margin. Small enough that playing on the road-particularly when perceived as the favorite like they will be- figures to make the difference. My hunch is that losing the two games-albeit against excellent teams- may have altered the team's psyche. Hope I'm wrong.

Lakeland is tough enough... Like I said before, 4S is a tough class. If they make it to Tally, they earned it.

  2. Just my 2 cents. The Venice team I watched play Cocoa should be in the semis at the very least... They are a good program. I do know that the competition is tough in that class though. Lots of "what ifs" are going to happen along the path to the playoffs. I honestly think Venice could win 4S if they can keep the penalties to a minimum. They have the horses on both sides of the ball.

Too early to tell anything about these rankings... rankings shouldn't be released until like week 8 at the earliest (for college football as well).

But Buchholz has been the dominant program in the area for a while now, not sure if they can take the next step from a very good regional area team to 1 of 3 or 4 teams that you would pencil into the state championship.

As for the accusation that the FHSAA would be overjoyed by this, I doubt it. My bet is that the FHSAA would Niceville vs Lakeland (maybe Vero Beach) in Tallahassee if they are going for attendance in 4S, IMO

Buchholz prolly going to tally from the north side. Really though, it is up to every team and coach to to win the game. Can't let the road woes get to your team before the game even starts. Have to go into their house like you're the landlords and jack up the rent.

99.9% chance you’re right but it’s about by how much is what’s gonna tell me all I need to know. If it’s by 17 or less that’s a huge problem when it comes to my defense of Dillard being a way better team then what most folks think of them right now.

if they’re as underrated as I believe they’re and last week was a turning the corner moment we should win this by 40+. As a good team would.

You better get to 35 before half time then. Running clocks can kill the excessive scores.

Problem is their schedule is so horrible overall, and it gets really bad the second half of the season. They will coast into the playoffs 10-0

Seems Sumner does that a lot... coasting into the playoffs. Sometimes they even make it to the Semi's.

So I’m at the hookah lounge with my bro who’s a huge Miami central fan & were on the the topic of high school football.

& he’s telling me that in the “PORTAL”is I central head coaches has been discussing since before the season started to THROW the Gorman & chaminade game. LOL!

& that the coaching staff didn’t/don’t care about being national champs because they were “ROBBED” of it last year. & that throwing the chaminade game & Gorman game was purposely thrown to give more money and exposure to chaminade & gorman to make them look better. LMAO LOL.

man I’ve heard a lot of things in life but this here has took the cake. These folks from dade are something else lol. @Jullian @cribboy305

Just what are they putting in the hookah pipes?

  7. Have to say that some of the rankings really make no sense. You have no wins and a similar strength of schedule ranked over a team that has no losses and a higher SOS.  I think Jam was poking fun at the FHSAA cause they clearly are not using pure numbers... It may be that they are using the human factor as another variable.

I'm just messing with you muckboy... Glade Central has all my respect and they will be back again eventually.

Rockledge took Cocoa to the woodshed a few time so there is no disrespect there when the Rock pulls a win over other teams.

Cocoa took down Glades Central in back to back state title games, if I recall. That's probably a big part of it.

Are you talking about when they had some 19 year old wide receiver named Benjamin... Man, that was like in 2012 or so, you got to let it go my man.

Treasure Coast will lose to STA but have nothing to hang their heads over. I have a feeling that some, "outside forces," won't let them win if the game is close anyhow.

LOL, I'm still laughing. STA never gonna live this down for months to come.

The Pro Development Institute is opening in Cocoa this fall.  They will have football, soccer, basketball and baseball.  No schedule announced yet.

The baseball field is the old Huston Astro's spring training stadium. I played league flag football on the football field. Sure hope they improve that part of the institution. The soccer fields are first rate. The dorms are decent also.

They've been working on this place for several years now. IMG has played tournaments on the baseball field in the past.

    How about those Venice Indians!

As a Brevard fan of High School Football since 1969 I like seeing good teams play each other. Games where you're not sure who has the advantage. For me, it's not always about the win but watching the talent shine then play outstanding at the next level. The Cocoa Venice was such a game. Both teams have outstanding talent that will succeed at the college level. Except for a few calls on Venice the game could have came down to a FG or missed extra point. The game was that close, and with Venice on the road they played full on for 4 quarters. Their tandem QB's were a nightmare for Cocoa and I'm sure Venice will be one of the top contenders in the playoffs.

Both teams played their hearts out the entire game. Much respect to Venice. The last 5 or 6 years they have improved every season. Also one of the hardest teams to beat at home.

Cocoa and Venice have proved on the field they are both tough teams to beat. I wish Venice the best in the playoffs.

Also lots of respect to VeniceIndianFan. He seems to be a thoughtful poster.

    Couple explanations

It was mathematical impossible for STA to get the ball back, so Cocoa was obviously robbed of the win, but since I’m human and not a computer, the ranking reflects Cocoa winning the game.

Vero took a tumble after Venice destroyed their only good win. A win that is said to have an asterisk. Lol.

Mainland took a huge jump after being undervalued for a few weeks. Same with  Apopka, CCC and St Augustine.

Lake Mary dropped far down without losing just because I might have ranked them higher off a knee jerk reaction. They are well coached and have talent, but they really haven’t done much so far compared to some other teams. Their schedule is brutal towards the end. So they will sink or swim during that time.

Naples and C Newman didn’t really do much wrong, but teams with stronger cases got rewarded for good behavior.

Western got thrown out for losing to Coconut Creek. Creek is a tough one. They hung in with a top GA team and and beat Western. Creek has Plantation coming up. It would be hard not to rank Creek for winning that one. Western has STA. If Creek wins, and Western plays STA close, then Creek could drag Western in the rankings with them. Lol

You are getting good at this. I probably would have STA and Cocoa tied at 5 since they played so close and I don't feel like Cocoa really lost on the field or that STA won. The STA Refs should be moved to the bottom of the entire national HS rankings for Refs even though I'm sure there are worse Refs in HS football...

First, I think under the circumstances, Cocoa is doing the correct thing. Now with regards to success in their appeal, I think the chances of getting the result overturned are slim: about the same as a poor person winning his/her appeal when relying on an attorney working on behalf of the indigent.

With that said, I think the fact Cocoa had the guts to appeal will probably result in crews more being inclined to abstain from making decisions that are clearly over the top in the future. Most individuals don't like to be exposed to the light of day when engaged in wrongdoing.

Good luck to the Cocoa program. I hope I am wrong and they win.

With regards to Venice trolling them, holding calls are always controversial. I have not seen video of the Cocoa vs Venice game. So, I am not in a position to opine as to whether Venice was being called excessively or not. But failure to run the clock seems a cut and dry situation to me.

I was at the Cocoa Venice game.Venice had a TD called back but on that play there was holding in my opinion. A couple other calls I didn't really see the hold but I did see a couple of holds on both side that were not called. The guy next to me said they could probably call a hold every other play. In defense of Venice, I felt like they were getting more questionable penalties called than Cocoa. Both teams could have played a cleaner game, some sloppy play and dumb penalties.

Where have you been Cat_Scratch2? I am glad that you are still posting to this message board, it was a little concerned for a while. You are one of the "good" people on this message board.

Thanks man. I've seen some of the love the board is giving you. You know how it is... always the Refs fault, same as an umpire in baseball.

My computer was hacked. Just now getting back on the boards with new accounts.

Anyway, just so you know, I appreciate the refs even when the calls are iffy, it's not always easy and sports would be brawls if there were no umpires.

Yep... If nothing else, I bet STA thinks twice about Cocoa the next time they play. If the refs took the game away from Cocoa then that's on the ref's. If the ref's screwed this up then Jambun will get to the bottom of it, right jambun.
