Almost by definition, all of the teams are Metro.   The eight counties that make up Metro are:  Broward, Dade, Duval, Hillsborough, Orange, Palm Beach, Pinellas, and Seminole.  So, if you're doing a Top 10 of South Florida teams (which is what this particular thread is), I'm not sure what you have other than teams in Broward, Dade and Palm Beach.

If your point is that there aren't any other good teams in the state (or that there's few, if any teams, outside of South Florida that would crack into that Top 10 if the list were expanded to state wide), you may have a point . . . although I suspect there would be some argument there from folks who follow Lakeland, Buchholz, Niceville, Osceola and Venice.

Personally, I think that the top 4S teams that I just mentioned could compete with the top 4M teams (Apopka, Seminole, Columbus, to name a few).  And while it's really not fair to 'compare' 3S with 3M or 2S with 2M (because the enrollment numbers for the four Metro classifications are not the same as for the four Suburban classifications), I think it's safe to say that the top teams in 2S (other than Cocoa) would have a difficult time beating the top teams in 2M (like Central, Bolles, Berkeley, CCC, TC, AHP, CG, Norland, etc.) and the top teams in 3S (other than, perhaps, Lincoln and, just to stay on CHF's good side, Columbia) would have a difficult time beating the top teams in 3M (like STA, Dillard, Jones, Armwood, TBT, Jesuit, etc.).

So, while there may be a handful of really good teams in the Suburban group, the cream of the crop is definitely in Metro.

My mistake didn't "SEE" South Florida. Still not a fan of the split, showing my prejudices. #oldfool

Now that the first week is in the books, all I can say is “WEEK 1 Did Not disappoint!”

Now entering Week 2 if I had to post my south Florida top 10 it would be.

    #1 MIAMI Central (1-0)

    #2 Chaminade Madonna (1-0)

    #3 American Heritage (2-0)

    #4 MIAMI Northwestern (1-0)

    #5 St Thomas Aquinas (1-0)

    #6 Dillard (1-0)

    #7 Columbus (1-0)

    #8 Homestead (1-0)

    #9 Western (1-0)

    #10 Cardinal gibbons. (1-0)

i put gibbons at 10 because right now they don’t look all that impressive. After a big graduation class & a few transfers that transfer out they look a shell of their past championship teams.

3 weeks ago they lost a referee scrimmage to a below Avg Blanche ely team (8-7)

the very next week they didn’t put anybody points against chaminade Madonna

& last week they won (11-6) vs a dematha team that’s nowhere near what they use to be. But it’s a long season and a lot can change. But for right now, this is where I’m at top 10 wise.

Dark Horses:BTW (1-0) MIAMI Norland, Avant grande, Miramar, palmetto, Plantation.

To lazy to look, but are all those teams METRO ?  If so then the 4 titles from Suburban seem a little hollow...just saying.

I too read several articles relating to the 26 ineligible players before the original post. The most insightful one was an ex-SID (Sports Information Director) who put the full blame on the incompetence of the FAMU administration. He stated the school had previously had similar issues and what they had done was ask for guidance from FSU who's campus was only one mile down the road. He and others formed a good personal relationship with compliance officers at FSU who freely helped them get their house in order. These two state funded institutions are side by side. Why there isn't more sharing and communication is ridiculous. I guess they're separate Kingdoms in the same neighborhood.

I was waiting for you to show up .  I can't say a thing.  We didn't have those problems when I enrolled 28 years ago.

I'm more impressed that FAMU performed better than expected missing that many players.  You should be concerned about how fast and hard the Hurricanes are going to toss you alley cats back into the dumpster from whence you came. :D

Hey man, I'm just busting your chops and Peezy's too. Saw a nice TD pass from your Vandy QB transfer. I think the Rattler's did very well in the transfer portal "IF" they can all qualify. Sometimes those P.E. classes can stress a student/athlete's mental capabilities like it did for both of you old school Rattler's.   :)

  5. Peezy, NulliSecundus, what's going on in Tally with the Rattlers ?  They played a nationally televised opener Saturday (ACC Network) at the University of North Carolina with a partial, bare bones squad missing 26 ineligible players. Didn't this same thing happen a few years back ?  They play a Deion Sanders led Jackson State in Miami next Sunday afternoon in front of the whole nation (ESPN) on Labor Day weekend. Who's running that Mickey Mouse program on the hills of Tallahassee ?  Some are pointing fingers at the alumni (Wink,Wink). SMDH.

Yeah this didn't age well. LOL.. I'm very disappointed on the way NW started and finished. Mainly with the coaches. Started to conservative and had only 1 or zero safety in obvious passing situations (coach Max smh). And the special tems miscues continue to haunt us. Another kick return for a td and a onside kick recovery. Venice had issues with special teams as well. Tyger played ok off to a subpar start has to pick it up rest of the season. Venice dline did not impress me. NW gashed their dline all game long and Jamari Ford didn't even play. It was a senior, soph, and freshman that ran over that defense. Those boys were worn down. Damion Wilson did nothing tonight. Like I said (hate to admit it) Reuben Bain is the best d lineman in the state. That's who really gives and will continue to give MNW and everybody else problems just like IMG last night. Fans and staff of Venice were nice at least and it was an enjoyable ride home. If Venice doesn't find a line this could be a long season with the schedule they have.

Is Reuben Bain kin to Tolbert Bain and Travarous Bain ? I remember those names back in the day. My wife got family on NW 117th and also others under the Traz Powell stadium lights. Front yard lit up every game  :)

when you sit & think about the new classes its hard to think they did it for the better of the state lol. they did not want miami/broward running the table anymore in my imo because the more I look at how these districts & classes are made it just seems unfair. ultimately I understand but the level of competition in 2m compared to anything else is crazy

In years past many of the Miami public schools played up a class or two or three. Is that not still an option ?  Must be a half dozen 2 Metro's that would give 4 Metro a fit.

  8. Wow !  Bucs 42 Deland 29.  Good game. Deland is now smash mouth football and has the bodies to carry out the mission. A couple mistakes held their scoring down, but Mainland too could have easily put 50-60 on them without much trouble if at mid season form. Deland will win District 9, Suburban 4 and battle Osceola, Treasure Coast, and Vero for the Region 3 title. Mainland too, if they stay healthy, will win their district and make trouble for anyone else in their way. Mainland's passing game is the most explosive they have had in decades, scary good. Don't want to go nuts after a big opening season start and win. Big Deland appeared to beat on a smaller Mainland defense from my bleacher view, but my Bucs have heart and resiliency and beat on them in return. Deland's single wing will be Apopka nasty in a few weeks. Look out Spruce Creek. Coach D ain't play'in... All is well tonight in Daytona.

    So a few questions:

    (1) what happened with the taking out of Columbia’s QB?

    (2) how different do we think the game would be if it were dry outside with better field conditions?

    (3) how do you look at the season prognosis of both programs?

Gainesville Buchholz's defense overwhelmed Columbia's generic and unimaginative offense all night long. ColumboFan pointed out the poor field condition as a contributing factor. Both teams looked to have multiple D-1's  on defense. Also both being in the Suburban football brackets (Buchholz 4, LC 3) greatly increases their odds of being a future player in a run to a championship. (IMO) Metro 3 & 4 has more strength and competition.

I missed most of the first half, but from what I saw in the second half, the Columbia O-Line was having a very difficult time giving their QB time to set up and throw the ball.    The one time they did, the QB connected on a long bomb for a TD.  Other than that, I'm pretty sure #6 and #8 for the Bobcats spent more time in Columbia's backfield than Columbia's running backs did.  Speaking of Columbia's running backs, did they have any?  I know Columbia was trying to play catch-up in the second half, but I don't recall seeing a single running play (other than when the QB got flushed out of the pocket).  Did they try running the ball more in the first half?  In any event, and granted they were running downfield on a muddy field all second half, Buchholz's defense looked strong.  As did their O-line.

The sequence with 4 minutes left in the game was bizarre.  Apparently, there was a disturbance out in the parking lot that resulting in the police using a taser.  (Do those things sound like gun fire from a distance?)   Somehow, the taser in the parking lot triggered a chain reaction, causing all the fans to leave the stadium and both teams to quickly leave the field.   Before leaving the field, however, all the Columbia players hit the dirt.   I haven't seen that many defenders lying on the ground at one time since the Florida/Miami game in 1971, when the Gators defense flopped to ground and gave up a meaningless TD at the end of the game in order to get the ball back one more time so that John Reaves could break Jim Plunkett's NCAA record for all-time passing yardage.  (Am I dating myself?).

Seriously, the saddest part of the night is when the announcers explained that the response from Columbia was practiced protocol in response to a shooting.   No politics here, but just terribly sad that players, coaches or fans have to worry about something like that happening on a Friday night at or near a high school football game.

A Blast from the Past, the "Super Sophs"  John Reeves, Carlos Alvarez, and Mainland's own Touchdown Tommie Durrance (Another shameless "Homer" plug).

Columbiafan has to be running the clock at Citizen's Field. In all seriousness, this is some of the most egregious cheating of time I can remember seeing on the last drive of the half. And it will be available for all to review on the youtube link above.

I'm hollering at the screen, my wife comes out and gives me that look..... :)
