Maybe the kids returned to Rockledge and Cocoa ...

That's exactly what happened. Last season and the season before that alot of players returned to Rockledge, Eau Gallie, and Melbourne. The season before that players returned to Cocoa and Rockledge. Their stud DLineman from a couples seasons ago that signed with UF technically would've been zoned for Cocoa.

Seabreeze playing Miami Northwestern? I am not sure what good this game does for either team. Even if Seabreeze is much improved, I think this is way too steep a hill to climb in one year.

As do I. I had to make sure I was looking at the right post on twitter and verify everything. Took me by surprise.

Why is STA not returning the trip to Cocoa? Seems a bit selfish. Is STA at least providing some sort of financial aid to get Cocoa to Fort Lauderdale?

I'm assuming it's the same type of deal they had with Venice. Also, possibility of ESPN picking up the game if Cocoa goes into it undefeated or picking up the other 2 games

Absolutely loving it. Very tough schedule that will serve the Tigers well in their hunt to repeat as State Champions. Very glad that we were able to get you guys back on the schedule after it fell through last year. You get revenge on Jones, drop the Venice game, lose to STA, and then win everything else to secure the district and the top seed in your region. Awesome schedule!

I can definitely see that. 2 or 3 losses coming to any combination of these 4 teams Jones, STA, Venice, or Seminole. I don't see them beating STA. The other 3 will be very competitive and could go either way.

Yeah they did. They were waving that much needed money in front of them. They fundraised some money for them which was admirable but Dunbar was in no position to play a game after that long of a layoff and the circumstances of their neighborhood being in shambles. The coaches took and unprepared team and worse “out of football shape” to go play a game so Lowndes can collect the gate money. It was shady at best

Was most definitely shady. Hated how they were throwing it out there on the national board. Yea I get they raised funds but they could've easily scheduled a different team and used a percentage of the gate as funds to help out Dunbar while they recouped or atleast raised funds and sent it down to Dunbar.

Agree. There is real problem here with teams playing games they have zero chance to win. Especially going out of state. It’s an embarrassment. These coaches are irresponsible. Both parties. The winning coaches should be like sorry we need to test our team with real competition and not have our fans go home at halftime. And the losing coaches should be lone no thanks. Losing by 50-70 won’t do good for anyone.

Kinda how I believe Lowndes was doing everything in their power to get Dunbar to travel right after the hurricane

Venice was an outlier and wanted to be in metro and petitioned and was denied. They knew suburb side is minor leagues. All the supporters whines that metro won 89% of trike so just using their reasoning.  We wil get same teams winning all 9 divisions so new system helped about 12 teams I. Suburb  to have a shot to win state instead of semis in old system. But tons of schools crammed into  4 divisions who don’t cheat get screwed in both suburb and metro which got us blowout festival in regular season.

    Venice wasn't the only school

How did Suburban Venice beat 3 metro teams back to back to back to win the title last year? How is that possible? And not just beat them, beat ‘em like a rented mule? Not a bought and paid for mule. A rented one

Kinda how lil ole Suburban Cocoa beat bigger metro teams last year, lost to that Venice squad by 1 and had chances to win the title against the only metro team to be that very same Venice team.

There's compromise, they travel a little, other's travel to them.  They have a few more less competitive matchups than everyone else.  Video games go through the same problem with ping instead of travel time.  You start with  strict requirements for a matchup and loosen them as needed to get a match.

Was there a specific team you had in mind?

Just was speaking in general. I know Brevard teams would go the route of how they did in 2020 and add teams from orange, volusia, st lucie/indian river, osceola and lake counties

Remove classes.  District games are matchups between nearby teams of similar ability.  There is one official state tournament with the top 32 ranked teams.  Host smaller tournaments for teams not in the state tournament.

This creates more competitive matchups all season long, forces teams to work improve, eases travel budgets, etc.

What about for those teama who don't have many teams with similar ability near by?

Again, people have to remember that while Metro and Suburban are both divided up into four classifications, the school population numbers in the corresponding classes are not equal.  1S and 1M are fairly equal, but from that point on, the Metro classes all have higher student populations to pull from.   So, while it sounds fair to say 2S vs. 2M, 3S vs. 3M and 4S vs. 4M, the Metro classes will all be filled with a number of schools that have a larger population than the largest school in the corresponding Suburban class.

For those advocating an 8-team tournament of state champions, you're adding 3 more weeks to the calendar.  With traditional seeding, you'd have 4S and 4M teams playing 1S and 1M teams.  I'd expect to see a lot of blow-outs in those games.  the 2S/M vs. 3S/M games would be more competitive with some of the "2" teams prevailing.  But you'd have games continuing on beyond Christmas into the new year.   Smaller schools would suffer, as kids would have to make a choice between continuing football or taking off their cleats and putting on their kicks for basketball season.

so, pick a number between 1 and 9 . . . how many "state champions" should the State of Florida have for high school football?

Definitely not advocating for a tournament of champions. But for correlated champs playing. I get the enrollment difference but most teams play bigger teams in the regular season already. They could also do an open division as well for those teams who are considered upper echelon

Also, if a tournament were to be played between the class champs to determine 1 true winner, you might as well have 1 class for the entire state and cut the formalities.  We all know that won't happen.

Could have the metro and suburban champs play their class equivalent for the overall. 1S v 1M 2S v 2M etc. Have those games played in Orlando. 2 games on Friday and 2 on Saturday

So we blew up old system to help about ten suburban elects teams and screwed many more.

Also there's a good amount of good suburban teams who were upset about it as well since they looked forward to competing against talented metro teams for the title. Alot of the top smaller suburban teams got hurt due to not being able to schedule how they did without district opponents.

Lake wales loses to central by 28.

the suburban is the minor leagues and if they were able to compete with the metro than why make any change at all from old system. Oh that’s right those poor elite suburban teams only made the semis instead of getting a state champions b level trophy. Hope the state trophy was a little smaller for suburban joke league

Again there's suburban teams that have, can, and will always compete with metro teams.

  16. 6 hours ago, Floridaatlantic1 said:

By the way. I know Lakeland and Benice can play with anyone.  All the other suburban state champs get slaughtered by metro equivalent

Atleast half the suburban state champs would compete if not win and a couple runner ups as well as a couple semifinalists. Yea majority would get slaughtered but more than the 2 you stated would compete.

Of course the same teams made the Title Games, those are the best teams. Would you prefer mediocre teams to play for a State Championship? The regular season will remain the same because the districts are, for the most part, the same as they have always been. People like you are never satisfied, and just like to complain for complaining's sake.

There were complaints last season when inferior/mediocre teams made the semis and finals

UCF would be a good option.  As I watched the Cure Bowl from Orlando on Friday, I thought the game site, Exploria Stadium (home of Orlando City soccer) would also be a great place for the championship games.  Central location, 25,000 capacity.  But guess they would rather host a meaningless bowl game than 9 high school football games.

Cure Bowl and a high school all-star game for the area that's also sponsored by the Cure Bowl. Wouldn't necessarily call it a meaningless bowl game when it's for a great cause. Who's to say the FHSAA even reached out. Plus I'm sure they had a multiyear deal with those 2 sites since they used both last season
