The local paper had an article, behind pay wall, arguing that TC deserves a playoff spot due to quality of opponents it lost too this season…they finished 3-7 with Wins over Fort Pierce Central, Martin county, and Centennial and losses to Chaminade, Jesuit, STA, Kissimmee Osceola to name a few….what do you guys think? I feel it’s like arguing that Vanderbilt should make a bowl game due to the quality of opponents they lose too every season….if they had beaten one other district opponent they would be in as district champ! Just curious if SOS should count more than wins or if close losses are better, in your opinion, then wins against “inferior” opponents

Like Vero would have beaten those teams Treasure Coast lost to

They couldn't even beat one of the teams that Treasure Coast beat

Martin County record this year vs Treasure Coast  0-2

Martin County record this year vs Vero Beach  1-0

As a Vero fan I think they should have been in, they are one of the top teams in the region, despite their record and we should want the best teams in the playoffs. I for one respect what they did tried to do this year and believe they should have been rewarded for it.

What I don’t understand though is why Vero was brought up at all? I know he’s a Vero fan, but it has no relevance to this topic, he’s entitled to his opinion, he obviously doesn’t think they should be in, as many do, I disagree, and that’s my right.

If comparing what TC/Martin County vs Vero/Martin County is to speculate on Vero/ TC, it’s not necessary, it was decided two weeks ago: Vero beat TC and won the district.

Now IF they are both able to somehow make it to the third round, the outcome may be different, but that’s a huge leap as Vero still has to play/win tomorrow night, they both still have to play/win next week, and TC has a considerably bigger task ahead of them than Vero would.

Again I’m not a TC hater in any way, I respect what coach Jones has built there and appreciate this district becoming what it is, they put 4 of the the 5 teams in to the playoffs and I would love to see Fort Pierce Central become more competitive again.

I’m a longtime Vero fan, but if they get knocked out and if either TC or Centennial are still in it, I’m gonna pull for them to keep going as long as possible, as I did for TC last year.

As @DarterBlue2 said, they will likely get in as an 8 seed. The fact that they are 3-7 and STILL nobody wants to see them in the 4S playoffs, is the best argument in favor of them being in that I can think of. I know that I hope that Venice doesn't have to play them.

I think TC will stay at the 6th seed or flip with Centennial to the 7th seed.

Spruce Creek lost to Sandalwood, so they have to hope to stay at 8th seed or could have opened the door for Harmony to claim that 8th seed with their win vs St Cloud.

Depends on how the formula favors TC losing to a team like Chaminade versus Centennial beating Port St Lucie, either way I think that 8 seed belongs to Spruce Creek or Harmony.

I think TC will see a rematch with Martin County or a rematch with Osceola in the first round.

Nothing to do with playing talented teams! When your QB goes does in 1st half with you down a TD and your offense can’t seem to work without force feeding one guy it happens

Although Aronson and Jacobs getting hurt didn’t help, Vero was still able to move the ball somewhat and tied the game, the bigger issue for Vero was Martin County running on/ through them like wet toilet paper, this does not bode well for them when they play TC next week.

Remember, we once agreed it's not how you start but how you finish.  They have won the one district game against an undefeated pretty good Martin County in dominant fashion and will probably win the rest leading to the final against Vero.  They win and they're in.  Then we can see if they make more noise in the playoffs.

They dominated Martin County and the 28-7 score was only one half, the game was called at half due to lightning, it could have been much worse as TC’s size would have wore Martin County down in the second half.

A good schedule, no doubt. I think the Fighting Indians could go undefeated, but Miami Palmetto is probably the only hiccup if a perfect season is not in the cards. Also, why is TC the last game of the schedule? Are they no longer deemed a “competitive” rivalry? It seems strange (to me, anyway,) for a district opponent to be played in the final game of the season; especially when it is expected to be a great game and an overall “heavyweight bout.”

But still a great schedule. We should try to schedule a game next season. The last two matches between Venice and Vero have been cancelled by a hurricane and a pandemic. What luck, lol.

This is the first time is been on that date, with the new district/classifications I imagine that’s was the only date that worked for both teams, weird also to close out the season with 3 straight district games too.

I actually like the Vero/TC game being the last game, it’s decided the district championship the last several years and now it will come down to the final regular season game of the year. I doubt either team will go unbeaten before this game, but it should be a battle as always.

I believe Vero’s schedule is solid at best, 8 playoff teams from last year, but only TC, Martin County and Palmetto made it out of the first round.

I would guess Sebastian River will go independent, if you’re going by school size, they would be in the same district as Treasure Coast, Fort Pierce Central, Centennial, Martin County and Vero Beach. Sebastian make it clear last season they do not intend on playing Vero again despite their intra county rivalry.

Sebastian River coach Tony Perry confirmed that they will be going independent in 2022, he said he is hoping to “reset” the program to improve dwindling participation. Perry used Satellite Beach’s turnaround as inspiration for making this decision.

Well before this even came out Poinciana told the Orlando Sentinel they were going Independent again.

They missed Sebastian River and it appears that the commitment form was never filled out.

Interesting, I guess I have been confused all these years as I assumed it was Vero.

Nah, Jon covered this area but he has always heaped tremendous praise on Treasure Coast even when they couldn’t get over the Vero hump. Most people in this area (other than Vero fans) typically adopt a “anyone but Vero” mindset, no matter if its TC, Fort Pierce Central or Centennial.

  9. A few notes from this game:

    1. The loss of the suspended players particularly receiver Jacobs hurt Vero, their offense was mostly one dimensional all night. the weather had a lot to do with that, as it was raining all game and the field was drenched, but PBC overcame it and was able to throw the ball effectively at times.

    2. Most of Vero’s scores came in un-Vero like fashion: by long, smash mouth drives with RB’s Ferguson and Rogers. Vero is not setup to do this normally as their usually undersized in the trenches, if PBC doesn’t figure this out, it could be a long night next week against Eden James and TC, as they are setup to exploit just that.

    3. PBC quarterback Haston is a special talent, I would expect him to be one of the states top QB prospects next year.

Overall I decent year for Vero, but to be honest, I think everyone in town probably expected to lose in the 2nd or 3rd round again, so it’s not a shock, good luck to PBC next week.

  10. Word on the street at Vero is they have 6 players suspended due to a fight at the school including FSU commit Vandrevius Jacobs for this game and next week should they still manage to beat PBC.

A couple notes from my end:

    1. Disheartening to see that Vero’s three best players (Jacobs, Smith, Monds) were all at Ft. Pierce Westwood last year. This is not a knock on Lenny or the Vero Beach program—it happens everywhere. Just an overall assessment of the nature of high school football as a whole. Not the same game I grew up with.

    2. Sad to see Vero’s YouTube broadcast get kicked to the curb. I get it—if people are willing to pay $15/game, as an athletic department, you do it. That said, the YouTube broadcasts were quite enjoyable. While I’m sure the partnership with the FM radio station will be more professional, they will surely lose some of the fun-loving homer-like tendencies from the YouTube crew. Became a staple of my Friday night’s on the couch—it will be missed.

Fun game last night. Thanks to the Brevard Sports Network for allowing us in.

Due to technical glitches with the FM stations broadcasts, Vero will be reverting back to their YouTube broadcasts for the remainder of the year free of charge.

Dang it I didn’t realize it was on the Brevard Sports channel, I listened on the app though which since I played their almost 20 years ago still has great coverage and play by play. And I prob won’t be paying 15 a game some of the games you know will be a total blowout and just aren’t worth it, plus I’ve seen a bunch of people on Facebook complaining about multiple stream issues as well.

I think the Vero-Viera game in two weeks will be on Brevard Sports Network too.

Very solid schedule. Cocoa, Rockledge, Glades Central, Raines, and Viera are all fantastic choices for opponents. Losses will be Cocoa, Treasure Coast, and GC.

I think everyone in Vero (and the rest of the state) would be happy just getting to play scheduled opponents and not scramble to find games again due to Hurricane and/or Covid cancellations...
