Why are you mixing in scores of baseball games with the scores of the spring football games?

Worth noting that the award is intended to honor the best high school player.   It's not a "most likely to succeed at the next level or the level after that" award.   Similar in some respects to the Heisman Trophy.  Both reward the player for what he did over the course of a particular season (and, in some cases, influenced by his career).  Let the recruiting services dishing out stars and the Mel Kipers of the world predict success at the next level.   Oh, by the way, they'll miss on several players too.

That was a very good DP team.  Arguably better than the 2012 team that beat Plant the year before.
I think the 2013 DP team would have gone on to beat Ft. Pierce Central, as Plant did, but would have had two very tough games after that (against Apopka, who beat Plant, and against South Dade, who beat Apopka for the 8A title).

If not for some "liberals" who had the courage to allow blacks to play and/or coach in football and other sports many years ago, and caught hell for it(some had their lives threatened), the game would not be what it is today.  I am someone from that era, and experienced it firsthand.
Call them whatever you want, liberal or otherwise...they were men like Sam Budnyk who looked beyond a man's color, demonstrated compassion for their brother of any race/color...they were the "liberals" of their day, and isn't it ironic that today such people are looked up to and applauded.  Maybe there is a lesson in there somewhere.

Dang, I guess I wasted my time looking for for a team who went undefeated and won a state champion one year (the year after going 4-7) and then went undefeated and won a the state championship the following year.

I might be in the minority on this one, but I don't view a successful high school coach as a coach that won state championships. That might be the metric used to compare college or NFL coaches.

These days a team that consistently wins state championships is typically due to the fact they recruit the best talent in their area and in modern times it's quietly becoming the state and in some teams cases the nation.

I've always been of the impression since I was at St. Petersburg Catholic back in the very early 2000's that high school coaches are far more important to the development of young men. I imagine the players that played for Mr. Budnyk would consider him a champion even if he doesn't have a ring that says "State" on it.

I remember reading about Coach Budnyk in the Palm Beach Post in the mid 2000's before his retirement. Sounds like an amazing individual from a different generation that was able to adapt to the changing times.

Perspective got a reaction from Coach in Are Spring Games Necessary?
So, not being a football coach myself, but knowing quite a few of them, here are the types of things that I hear them saying.
    1.  "Reward" for the kids for 20 tough days (on top of all the conditioning that the kids may have been doing since last season ended).
    2. For returning players, it's probably not that big of a deal (unless a player is going through a position change).   For new kids - even kids coming up from JV - the spring game is great for evaluation purposes.   Every coach has had a kid who looks like a frickin' all-state player in practice but shrinks up under the Friday night lights.  Similarly, there's usually a kid or two that can't quite put it together in practice, but turns it up a notch or two in a game.  Spring games help identify both.
    3.  Some coaches will use a spring game to make decisions on who a starter at a certain position will be, which is helpful with the short time before fall football starts and the short time between the start of fall football and the first regular season game.
    4.  Last, but not least, for some schools, a spring game helps them identify what their summer recruiting priorities will be.  Wait, did I just say that?   How insensitive of me.

I'm guessing there aren't too many players on this board; I would curious what their response would be.
As a parent, I don't have a problem with coaches and teachers texting my son.  Perhaps I have too much trust/faith in my son.  I feel pretty confident he would come to me and/or my wife if he ever got something inappropriate from a coach or a teacher.
My son has one teacher (chemistry) that uses text messaging on a regular basis.  And by regular, I mean once or twice a day.  But (as far as I know), he always sends his text messages out to the whole class.  And at the initial parent/teacher night, he allowed/encouraged parents to sign up, which I did.  So, I get constant reminders about homework assignments, quizzes, tests, etc.  My son thinks it's a pain, but I've tried to turn it into a running joke when I ask him if he's done his assignment or prepared for the test (knowing that we both received the same text message).
Getting back to what I think your primary question/concern is:  I know my son exchanges text messages with his coaches (head coach and position coach).  Mostly it's logistical stuff, reminders and an occasional motivational message.   Some are part of group texts, but a few are individual text messages.  Knowing how many times my fairly-responsible teenage son has forgotten to make his bed, clean up his room, take out the garbage and recycling, etc., I'm OK with coaches sending out reminder text messages.  I understand your point about boundaries, but it's not like the coaches are stopping off at our house late at night.

I appreciate the honest response.   I agree that if IMG did what it appears they did, Lee really should be the one who reports them as they have the most to lose.

I'll put it this way in the most unbiased way I can

Even though I don't have concrete evidence to prove it many people in the Jacksonville area I spoke to in past have hinted that several schools (names will remain unsaid but I'm sure you may catch the hint with the rest of post who some of these programs are) who have coaches that not only encourage transfers but in some cases actually contacted parents of local kids from other schools to come play for them (this is based on conversations I've had this off-season with several parents of football players in Duval county)

Based on the conversations I've had with these same parents it is basically common place in Duval county especially at the top programs that "recruiting" has been happening (likely in other metros as well but since a Duval team is primary focus I'll stick to that county)

But back to the main discussion, I do not find what IMG does to be ethical on any level and while I find it ok if a player chooses on his own to attend it is not the same as if IMG directly pursues a player, however I also feel it's highly unlikely anything would happen to IMG even if I reported it

My feelings are that if anyone has a reason to report this blatant recruiting it would be Lee who would report it as it has the most direct effect on them so I wouldn't need to report it as odds are if the kid did choose to go to IMG than Lee would report it themselves (if they haven't already)

Personally though when it comes to the last statement, conceivably our odds of beating Lee could increase with them losing a very talented player like him however I'm very confident in our abilities to beat them whether he is there or not and the last thing I would want is for this to be some excuse for Lee when we beat them

After all he deleted the tweet and I took a screenshot of the tweet and even made it public after it was deleted so it wouldn't just go unnoticed so I couldn't say I would be sweeping it under the rug because in reality I could have easily let it stay hidden but I went out of my way to make it public

Though that is a fair question, even though I'm not someone who would want to let something like that just stay buried to help my own teams chances there probably are some people out there in similar situations who may not be so honest about it

Columbia, I just saw something interesting.   Typically, I would ask this in the form of a hypothetical question, but I won't bother to try and disguise things.   It appears that the kid who got the "invitation" from IMG currently plays for Robert E. Lee.  Based solely on the fact that IMG apparently/allegedly wants the kid to attend IMG, I'm going to assume he's a pretty good football player.  Lee is now in the same district as Columbia.   If you're the coach at Columbia (or even a big fan who follows high school football closely and who posts on high school football message boards), what do you do if you think IMG has crossed the line?   On the one hand, you may feel compelled to report the violation (regardless of whether you think the FHSAA will do anything about it).  On the other hand, if you stay quiet on the issue, then one of your district opponents just lost one of their best defensive players, which presumably increases your chances of beating Lee this season.  Ethical dilemma?

Some more guesses for the list:  Miami Northwest, Miami Central, Glades Central, Lakeland, Hillsborough and Columbia.
I'd be willing to bet STA is the school with double-digit players in the NFL right now, but I don't know what the number is.
