8A Region 2 - An Early Look

Recommended Posts

This is a very top-heavy region.  In terms of depth, it is one of the weakest regions in the upper classes.  Only four teams made the playoffs last season(Osceola, Plant, Riverview and Dr Phillips), and 3 of those represented this region last season.  Plant joins the party, moving up from 7A.  Plant played in 8A between 2011-2014 and went 3-0 vs Boone and 2-2 vs Dr Phillips in the playoffs during that time frame.

The seedings for this region could look something like this next season.  The region lost perennial contenders Manatee and Vero Beach as part of the reclassification.  With the Treasure Coast teams moving to Region 3, travel distances for playoff games may be shorter for some now.

#1 Osceola

#2 Plant

#3 Sarasota Riverview

#4 Dr Phillips

#5 Lake Nona

#6 Boone

#7 George Steinbrenner

#8 Oak Ridge

I’ll rank them:

1t) Dr. Phillips

1t) Plant

3) Osceola

4) Sarasota Riverview

5) Lake Nona

6) Boone

7) Olympia

Plant and Dr. Phillips will renew their rivalry. Those were classics from 2011 to 2014. The 2013 OT game was a nightmare as a sure DP pick was tipped and the Plant WR took it ~80 yards to force OT in the last 2 minutes.

Do you mean this?

Yes, that's the game.

That DP team had enough to win it all.

That was a very good DP team.  Arguably better than the 2012 team that beat Plant the year before.

I think the 2013 DP team would have gone on to beat Ft. Pierce Central, as Plant did, but would have had two very tough games after that (against Apopka, who beat Plant, and against South Dade, who beat Apopka for the 8A title).
