Unfortunately districts are decided by the FHSAA, so OHS has to play inferior teams such as Gateway and Celebration in Kissimmee plus other schools in SE Orange county that are not the best.  That is not our choice so over the years we have picked up games with Dr. Phillips, Edgewater. West Orange, Bishop Moore and other better teams in Orange county if they are willing to do home and home.  Also will go into Polk to play Lakeland, Lake Gibson, Winter Haven, Lake Wales and others of that caliber.  Our region includes Tampa teams but we don't pick them up as much although we have had games with Manatee and Tampa Jesuit.   In addition, one of the oldest state "rivalries" is with St. Cloud and the locals clammer for that game.  Last year we scheduled home and home vs Miami Columbus as well as Cocoa.  So we are not ducking anyone.  Coach Nick has done a good job as he now has 5 Regional Championships in the 11 years he has been head coach.  Most schools would be thrilled with that record.

You don't have to justify Osceola football to anyone. It stands on its own and is very good.

2006 was an incredible year.  The following state champions all finished the year undefeated.  There could have been 7, but dem boyz from Belle Glade was slackin.

    6A Northwestern

    5A Lakeland

    4A Plant

    2A Bolles

    2B Pahokee

All those teams were juggernauts. What a great year!

  3. Hillsborough County still has multiple competitive teams but there is no real middle ground outside of a few teams. You're either very good or very bad.

Way things broke this year. I'm lumping in how teams did regardless of class. Private schools have asterisk.

Contenders to Very Good in their class:

    B-Dale

    Armwood

    Tech

    Gaither

    *Jesuit

    *TC

    *Berkeley

    Hillsborough

    Newsome

    *Seffner Christian

    Middle of the Road:

    Chamberlain

    Plant City

    Jefferson

    Wharton

    Steinbrenner

    Sumner

    *CDS

    *Cambridge

    Not Good:

    Plant

Robinson (by end of year due to attrition after good start)

    Alonso

    Blake

    Middleton

    Spoto

    Sickles

    Leto

    Strawberry Crest

    Brandon

    Riverview

    Durant

    East Bay

    King

    Lennard

  4. I like Minneola's chances against St. Augustine and Central. I say Central because although Palmetto is a very good squad, I don' think they match up well with Central this year compared to their team last year.

Palmetto is physical. They have a big QB, a good sized O-line, and a RB with great, great balance. But their passing game was thoroughly unimpressive against Hillsborough (a very poor man's version of Central's defense). Palmetto beat Hillsborough with physical play in a very close game. But this plays right into Central's style. Very few teams in the country can simply out-physical Central. Last year Palmetto kept Central off balance with a very effective short passing game and balanced that with QB runs and some tough runs from their backs. I don't think Palmetto has enough of a passing game this year to make Central respect it. QB runs and the RBs looking to break plays for yardage just isn't going to be effective against Central.

Minneola (if they get past the Jackets) has a pretty dynamic offense. So they can likely put up some points against Central's always dominant defense. They held a very good and balanced Gaither offense to 14, so if they can hold Central to 21 or under, they could have a puncher's chance.

The Canes have been very crisp and workmanlike.  This is a different team than I have seen in a while.  The coaches have done their job so far.

True, but recent history shows us that when Miami is punched in the gut, they fold. They haven't really played anybody with the ability to step on their throat and keep them down, but they will. I think they end up with at least two losses this year.
