Miamidade92 got a reaction from BrowardHandicapper in Transfer Season 2018
Miami High did great last year because of the recruiting Sedrick Irvin did for the school. They were stacked. He left Miami High to go back home to Southridge. He'll have Southridge bringing in players and they'll be competing for state again this season.
South Dade lost their freshman quarterback to Booker T when the season ended, but they always have athletes all over the field. But, I agree, they're unpredictable.
Columbus has been by far the most consistent program. You can always count on them reaching at least the second round of the playoffs and sometimes farther. They'll eventually breakthrough and get a state title.

Miamidade92 got a reaction from BrowardHandicapper in Coaching changes
I've heard from several people down in Dade County that Sedrick Irvin is going to leave Miami High and take the Southridge job. I don't know if anyone else has heard this or if it's even true. Just a rumor I heard.
It wouldn't surprise me since Irvin went to Southridge from 9th-11th grade. He only went to Miami High his senior year.

Out of the South in 8A it'll be Columbus, Deerfield, or Miami High in my opinion. South Dade is still undefeated with a loaded defense, but their offense will be their downfall.

In Dade County I think South Dade will bounce back with a big season and I also think Miami High will surprise a lot of people this year.

Everything you said is true. Killian will always have talent, but lately with so many coaching changes, they can't keep their players.

Miamidade92 got a reaction from MC Rockets in BTW vs central
Gorman is much closer to STA than to IMG. Sure they recruit, but nothing like IMG. Booker T went to Vegas three years ago and beat them over there, so they're not unbeatable. I think STA will beat them this week in a close game.
As far as Mainland, sure they have a good chance of beating Central this year, just like they had a good chance the last four years. At this point I think it's a huge mental game with Mainland and their coaches when they play Central.
I also think Central's schedule is much harder. Mainland just has to worry about Dr. Phillips (who they beat) and Cocoa, where Central has to play Norland, Booker T, Carol City, Jackson, and Northwestern. By the time the playoffs come around, Central will be battle tested after going through their own district. Mainland's soft schedule hurts them.

Southridge looked good in their preseason game and then surprised me by struggling with Edison. Maybe Edison is better than expected? Time will tell. Southridge is definitely loaded. Dade should come down between them and Columbus.
Like you said, we'll have to keep an eye on NMB. Very impressive preseason game and week 1.

I've been around the South Dade program recently, and they're defense is loaded. They're offense needs to rebuild and will be their achilles heel. They do have talented players on offense but they need linemen to step up on O. Their offensive line last year was really good and they lost 4 starters. They should still make the playoffs in their district along with Southridge.
The fact that Carol City put up 36 on that defense was impressive. After that spring game I became I believer in Carol City.

They have a great running game. Their running back is only a sophomore and will be a major D1 prospect, and their defense should be good. In the spring game they beat down a talented South Dade team 36-2

That's what I meant. They don't count in the official record, but they count in the national rankings.

Both went undefeated and won state titles. Both teams were loaded with talent.

Since 7A and 8A were created, STA has definitely benefitted. When they were in 5A and 4A before that, the playing field was much more even. The only way STA doesn't win 7A is if they beat themselves.

Miamidade92 got a reaction from BrowardHandicapper in SINCE 2009.........THERE HAS ONLY BEEN "ONE"
Aside from Columbus, MiamiDade doesn't have any private school powers. Columbus has recently been getting on the map. Like mentioned previously, most of their players are hispanic and very smart. That counts for a lot because they are very disciplined and know their assignments. They do recruit, but mainly for their skill positions. For example, they have a freshman running back named Darren Davis Jr. He was supposed to play at Southridge and even started fall practice there. He ended up at Columbus. Columbus has a good thing going and it's only a matter of time until they break through and win a state title. I think they could become the STA of Dade county, but I don't think they want that distinction of openly recruiting just for the sake of winning.
Last year Booker T went to the other end of the county in Homestead and took Homestead High's QB and WR for their senior seasons. Without those two (Maurice Alexander & Antonio Calloway) BTW probably doesn't win a state title. That being said, ALL the winning programs recruit. Public or private. The public schools just can't make it obvious.
As far as Jacksonville, it's the largest county in the state land wise, so the talent is spread out. I'm sure that plays a big part in why the public schools haven't won a state title in a while, while the private schools don't have anything holding them back from openly recruiting the best talent.

I'll be honest, 3A on down I don't know enough to make an educated guess.

Miamidade92 got a reaction from BrowardHandicapper in 8A Playoff Predictions, I st Round
I agree with that statement. A lot of people don't know about South Dade. They won state two years ago and missed the playoffs last year despite being 7-3. They play in a tough district and slipped up once against a talented Killian team this year. Other than that game, South Dade has been killing teams this year. I think this year's team is better than the one that one state two years ago. People may think they're a sleeper team because they don't have much championship history in Football, but I would be genuinely shocked if they don't win the 8A title this year.

Miamidade92 got a reaction from BrowardHandicapper in Who will win each division Prediction Thread
4A Either Cocoa or Bolles (Don't count out Booker T. They may be 5-5 but they faced a tough schedule and the team had to grow up quick. I wouldn't be surprised if they made it to the title game and lost to Bolles)
6A Central
7A St. Thomas
8A South Dade
