Cool.  I'm thinking from 1910 to 1920 there were probably some years Wauchula didn't have a team. The school's first year was 1906 with only 3 students. I did a lot of my research using microfilm roles of the local newspaper and old yearbooks. According to the local newspaper, the school's first team was in 1923 but we have a photo of the  1909 team and its known that the rivalry with Desoto is continuous since 1921.
 

I have our w/l records by year on a spreadsheet back to 1928 or so. Its on my computer at work. Don't have every game for every year. 

Old Florida - orange groves, small farms, cattle ranches, now one big hole in the ground.  

You will also notice that north and central Florida, particularly small town programs, were the top teams.  

If memory serves me correct, Lemon Bay has been losing players to Venice for years.  LBHS is on the Charlotte side of of county line, but as I understand it, the kids on the Sarasota side of the line can go to Venice or North Port if they want.  Lemon Bay was 5-4 but that included a forfeit win over Southeast.

Hardee won this year's meeting 34-0 and leads the series 60-35-5. The rivalry has been continuous since 1921; there was a game played in 1909 and perhaps a couple more before 1921. Records pre-1930 are hard to find.

Hagerty gets 38 points for beating 0-5 Ocoee 22-21
Viera gets 33 points for losing to 4-0 Cocoa in overtime
Miami Central gets 33 points for losing to IMG in a game they led late.
Apopka gets 33 points for losing to 4-0 Lakeland by 7 in the last minute on the road.
Booker T Washington gets 28 points for losing to Miami Northwestern by 7
I could give more examples but no need to.
In conclusion it is better to schedule bad to average teams and win then schedule great teams and lose close. 
 
 
 

Good job winning twice in the same week! 

So far I've only got to see them play a half against Sebring.  In that game, something like 7 or 8 starters were made sit out the first half, including the starting qb and several on the defense.  The game was 28-0 end of 1, at half and then the starters played the second half, after I got up an left.  I was told a number of starters didn't play against Avon Park either.  At least those are non-district games and likely that Sebring & Avon Park will win out their regular season with 8 or more wins so it shouldn't hurt us point wise.  But you're correct, the Southeast game should be for the district title.

So, I haven't seen my Hardee Wildcats play in person yet. I listen to the kickoff classic and first game broadcast and finally get my chance to see a game tonight. I've heard so much about our qb and some of others that I had high expectations. I go to the game tonight, which was away against Sebring, wait through the weather delay and take my seat in the rain only to learn that several of the best players on the team would not be starting, apparently for being late to practice. I watch as the backups are getting killed. Finally I ( and a lot of others) leave as the weather got worse and Sebring up 28-0. After I leave the starters get put in and now Hardee is making a comeback. 28-14 in the 3rd.

Play the game at Hardee, one hour drive for both parties.

No word yet if there will be a make up or not. Bad lightning in the area.
