    How does apopka do it

I wish our fans would show up and be more into the game then they been last few years, the band is only thing from crowd making noise

Although part of Metro Orlando, because it is in the extreme Northwest of the County (Orange County), in some respects, Apopka still has some of the features of "small town" America. This has been slowly changing, though.

    Darter,

That is why I don't live in a big city.

There are benefits to live in small towns and rural areas. For one, you tend to have better, longer lasting friendships and a much better sense of community.

Unfortunately, on the other side of the coin, there are less opportunities to make a living. The trade off is real.

Any footage of the other teams fan bases & i wish the community dwn south loe their school & community like this

In large cities in Florida, you will probably never get this type of support. Reasons? Too many other things to do, population more transitory (both within parts of the city, and with respect to staying in the area), less sense of community (relates to the transitory nature of the population), too many different schools which lead to kids transferring may 2 to 3 times during their high school years.

Having played both teams, Apopka in the spring and a two quarter scrimmage with Mainland, I can honestly say they both have the biggest Oline guys I've ever seen, difference is the Apopka guys are more physical. I will say the two interior lineman for Mainland, #91 and # 44, are HUGE and will do well stuffing the runs inside. When you play two quality teams it's usually the team with the least amount of mistakes that wins and it seems Apopka was that team. Both teams will make deep runs in the playoffs! I just wish we could have played our KOC game, mother nature took that one away from us!! However it would have been nice to have gotten the call BEFORE we drove to the game, appears DeLand already knew since they didn't even bother to show up!!!

Agree. It would have been nice.

Apopka too advantage of its chances; Mainland failed to score on a few critical plays deep in Apopka territory. That was pretty much the difference in the game.

    Norland 24 jones 24 final

Jones led 24-4 then pulled starters halfway through the third which in point norland scored a few late tds to tie it.

Jones put the starters back in late in the 4th. Their offense went on a long drive in the final few minutes with the game tied, but Norland held inside the red zone.

Jones had jumped to an 18-0 lead inside the first quarter before Norland settled down and began to play. Jones failed to score a single PAT. Don't know if they lack a kicker or if they went for two each time and got stopped.

  6. This season, I have seen Apopka vs Mainland in the KOC.

In the Spring I also saw:

    Orange City University

    Osceola

    Bishop Moore

    Dr. Phillips

    Winter Park

Of all the teams i have seen to date, the one I was most impressed with was Osceola. But this was a spring game and a lot may have changed. I also happen to think Apopka looks very good in some areas, but not so good in others. If this team can fix its weak points and can find a bit more depth at certain positions, it has a chance to go very deep.

I was impressed with Mainland's wide receiver core. I was less impressed with its overall defense (I set the bar high for them for I have seen what they have fielded defensively over the years) and with its offensive line.

  7. Apopka beats Mainland 26-14. Apopka led by 26-0 in the third. However, this does not mean that they dominated. Mainland had trouble with Apopka's unique offense and their offense squandered their first half chances. The half actually ended with an Apopka pick with Mainland inside the five yard line. The half time score was Apopka 20-0 over Mainland.

Mainland made a desperate effort to get back in the game in the fourth and scored two nice touchdown. They were again driving deep inside the Apopka half late in the fourth, but were stopped on successive running plays.

Mainland's QB this year is no Denzel Houston. And that made a big difference. He has a nice arm but lacks the elusiveness to get away from an athletic defensive. Also, for whatever reason, I thought Mainland ran too many running plays when it was obvious early they were not going to work. When the went to the air in the fourth quarter they had a lot more success.

Both teams have a lot of work to do, but I believe both will be in the playoffs.

Mainland apopka will be serious game

It will. But Mainland must be favored. We are small, inexperienced and weak!

I have a feeling Orlando Jones vs Norland game will be taken a lil serious...

Pretty sure this is true. Can't see Norland travelling so far to just play a scrimmage!

Will this be avalible after the game?

Yes, the station archives these. You would go to the 1520 website per the link and you would look under Roger Williams shows. Roger's father was a longtime principal of Apopka (for probably around 30 plus years) who was there through both the segregation and the school's desegregation in the late 1960s.

  10. Another area kid in the Midwest is Nick Westbrook, who attended Lake Mary; he has had two very good years at Indiana.

He was under-recruited coming out of high school. But I strongly feel that this young man will have a football career beyond College. In high school he impressed me with his route running ability and his deceptive speed.

Of course WR Eddie McDoom out of 2015 West Orange that is off to a good start there as well!

Yep. For some reason, a number of kids from Central Florida seem to like the Midwest. Olympia had another QB go to Northwestern. He is now with the Denver Broncos. And, a number of kids from here have gone to Ohio State, Purdue, and Notre Dame over the years.

That awesome news for Milton!  It seems like Milton and Coach Hayes have been a good fit for Olympia as they have shown improvements every year.  Of course there is another small connection that was not mentioned in the article.  Coach Hayes coached at Flanagan with former Flanagan HC Devin Bush (in 2014) who is now coaching Michigan with three of his 2015 players.  Milton can pretty much go where he pleases, but I would be willing to bet there is a grapevine connection somewhere in that coincidence.

That is probably a good assumption. But over the years, a lot of Central Florida kids have gone to Michigan including Apopka's Jeremy Gallon and a kid from Edgewater named, Greg Matthews, though.
