who of those coaches you think would be floridas best hire

I'm thinking matt Campbell would be best fit

To be head coach of a program like Florida you have to leave no doubt that you are in charge.  You need a guy that has set on him the size of bowling balls.  There is no doubt who is in charge at Bama, there was no doubt who was in charge at UF when Spurrier or Meyer was there.  I think Stoops could do it but there is something odd about his retirement I don't know if it's health related or burnout.  I have always liked Tuberville ,  Miles is really good but takes too many chances,  I think Kelly is bad news.  As for the younger coaches that is really just a crap shoot,  too much pressure at UF for most and you won't know until you have wasted 3 more years. The one name I keep seeing mentioned that is the stupidest idea and anyone who suggests it should be locked in asylum is Tebow, not a coach, not a coach ,not a coach.

  2. By the 3rd year if a coach hasn't made improvements it's time for him to go.  UF regressed in Mac's 3rd year so he obviously is nit the guy.  Smart is in his 2nd year at Georgia and you can see they improved last year people thought they had screwed up.  I have no ill will towards Mac, I would say I wish him the best but I honestly don't care he has been generously compensated to do a piss poor job.  Hopefully a better decision will be made in hiring the next coach.

  3. John Palmer is taking a leave of absence from the head football coach position at Port St Joe he will be replaced on an interim basis by Josh Dailey for the remainder of this season.

Coach Palmer has missed the last few games and has been limited in his duties this season.  We all wish for a full and speedy recovery for Coach.  If by chance Coach Palmer is not able to return next year this will open up one of the best jobs in North Florida.  When you consider home grown talent, community support,  financial support, and facilities this job could get a lot of attention.

Do you think that loss and being that they play NFC next, opens up a door for Franklin County?

I don't think Franklin can pick up enough points.  I think the team's left on Franklin schedule have only combined for 3 wins.  St Joe will pick up at least 33 against NFC.

Sorry about the loss. Hope Coach Palmer has a full and speedy recovery.

It's all part of what high school football really means,  boys learning to be men and finding out what is important in life.  As fans I think we are all guilty of holding teenagers to the standards of professional players when most high school players won't even play college ball.  They played a good 4th quarter,  it was too little too late,  but they showed some fight.

  6. Arnold            24

    Port St Joe  14  F

Not to take anything from Arnold but that was probably the worst 3 quarters of football PSJ has ever played.  I don't think there is a team in the state they would have beat tonight.  Coach Palmer's absence has really taken a toll the last few weeks prayers for a speedy recovery.

  7. I know we all like to talk about the playoffs but the truth is that is not what high school football is about.  The playoffs and championships are great but only 8 teams a year are gonna win it all less than half are in the playoffs.  I have had the joy of seeing my son in the playoffs and even the championship game and how special of a ride that can be but a kid on a 3-7 team scoring the game winner as time expires against his teams biggest rival is what its all about.  The pressure on players of winning programs is tremendous anything less than a state title is a disappointment and everyone lets them know from coaches, fellow students, and the community.  Sometime I wish the love of the game and giving all you have would be enough to make everyone happy.  Playoffs and championships will work themselves out they always do the best team wins and we can all argue how it could have been different if team x or y had been in there.

Ok so the moment a team takes a single loss they should just quit bc what does 9-1 mean to anyone if you aren't ln playoffs anyway

And how does the idea of a team getting better as the season progresses not make sense?

So you telling me EVERY SINGLE TEAM in the state and the nation is at their best potential for entire season week 1? Then why bother practicing if no one will get even a sniff better from it?

Teams don't always get better sometimes there are injuries and sometimes after report cards there are great athletes that are academically ineligible.  So a loss in September is the same as a loss in November.

For once in a long time, I actually agree with ColumbiaHighFan. 5A-8A should not receive points for playing up. 1A-4A, if they play 5A-8A than they should receive a couple of points.
The reason why 5A-8A should not receive points for playing up is that history doesn't show a huge advantage between those classifications. Meanwhile, the number of 1A-4A beating 5A-8A is not as high, so reward a point or two. Do not reward a point for 1A playing 2A, reward it for 1A playing 5A.

That sounds good to me. I know the good 1A schools in our area pretty much dominate the 4A teams but when you jump to 5A the numbers and depth start to wear on the 1A schools.

    1966 season by my records

    Patterson GA   69-0  W

    St Augustine   20-0  W

    Bishop Kenny   13-6  W

    Madison   76-0  W

    Ocala  36-9  W

    Rickards  20-13  W

    Palatka   26-14  W

    Starke (Bradford)  20-23  L

    Taylor County  14-0  W

    Suwannee  18-6  W

    Sunshine Bowl

    Lakeview  29-19  W

Nope Palatka won 20-13 on a last second double reverse flea flicker.  Probably one of the most exciting games in Florida high school history.

Almost sounds sarcastic (hope it is. Lol)

The way to fix it is to cut the classes by at least  3.  more realistically 4

Have 4 classes with 8 team districts and 4 teams from each district make it in.

4 classes with 8 teams per district in 16 districts

    16x8= 128 teams per class

    128 x 4 classes = 512 teams

there are about 560-570 teams right now. So that leaves about 50-60 as independents and Indy conferences like the SSAC.

Its a little sarcastic.  My personal opinion is that we have too many teams that are not and will never be in contention for the playoffs much less a championship.  It is basically the same teams every year that are in the playoffs so why not create a champions league broken into classification by size and an open league classified the same way.  Have teams 1A- 5A champions league 1B-5B open league.  Teams can move up by finishing in the top of the open league or down by finishing in the bottom of the champions league.  Interleague play would be allowed during the regular season.

No if you beat good teams you get more

You get 50 points for beating a category 1 team

I think they update points in off season to make it better

Actually you you don't get more points for beating a good team, you get more points for beating a team with a good record,  that is a huge difference and the major flaw in this system.  A team that has scheduled the weakest teams they could find and has gone undefeated is worth more to you than a defending state champ that scheduled all top opponents  and is 6-4

  13. The other thing you have to consider is the black schools that were consolidated with the white schools.  I don't know all of them but in Apalachicola the white school was Chapman and the black school was Quinn.  I know Port St Joe consolidated with Washington High and added their tiger mascot and yellow unis to PSJs shark and purple unis to make the Purple/Gold  Tigersharks.

Wakulla has had football around since the 30's when they started as a 6 man team but they were called Carwfordville High.

There was another school in the county called Sopchoppy High

In the 70's they merged together to make Wakulla County High. Crawfordville High is still recognized as Wakulla old high school.

Same thing happened in Madison County. There was Madison High and Greenville High since the 20's and in the early 80's they merged into Madison County High.

Sopchoppy and Crawfordville were converted to elementary schools when Wakulla High was built.  There are a lot of schools in the area that have consolidated  Carrabelle and Apalachicola (Franklin),  Chattahootchee and Greensboro (West Gadsden), Havana and Quincy Shanks (East Gadsden) now all Gadsden.  There ways also a boys reform school  Anneewakee that is bo longer around.
