I was referring to his calling an undefeated team in the championship game trash. Pahokee hypothetically defeating Blountstown at this stage is meaningless. If Pahokee was so much better why aren't they in the championship game instead of complaining about how unfairly they were treated by the refs and then bashing Blountstown to boot. Jeez.

True. But I was just jesting when I stated a thousand years. It's called a "play on words". Just means they are almost impossible to defeat on their home field. Bye the way, Pahokee has won 5 straight over some pretty good teams after a rocky start. I believe the athleticism of Pahokee can match that of Madison. If they limit penalties and mistakes they do have the horses to keep Madison honest and possibly win this game.

Trinity Catholic Celtics (8-3) @ Pensacola Catholic Crusaders (10-0)
2nd round of the 3A north playoffs
The Celtics will drive 6 hours this Friday to Pensacola. The last and only time the Celtics did this was in the 2010 playoffs and they defeated the Crusaders 21-14 and went on to defeat University School in the championship game.
Both teams have had a so so schedule. Certainly not tough but not exceptionally easy either.
Both teams rely upon their ground and pound game. Neither team's passing percentage is anything to write home about. .
Pensacola Catholic is running the problematic Pistol Wing-T formation. Problematic, that is, for opposing defenses. And they have two beasts for RB's. Big and fast. Their QB seems to run that formation to perfection (at least what I have seen on video). In one of the Celtic's past playoff games they faced Bolles and their infamous Wing T formation. They held Bolles to zero points until the 4th quarter when Bolles resorted to passing. The Celtics won.
My understanding of this formation is for the defensive players to "follow the ball" and not necessarily the player. I believe that was the modus operandi for the Celtics against the Wing-T.
My thoughts are that this is going to be a very difficult game for Trinity and will take their best effort to overcome the travel distance, opponent's field and fans, and probably the best team they will have faced all year. Can they do it, I don't know. Hope so.
Game time: Clear and 44 Degrees. Get out your gloves and ear covering.

Forecast for Friday in JAX is 58 degrees at game time with some windy conditions. The light rain should end by game time. I remember back a few years ago in the playoffs when we had to go up to Jax for the 2nd round . At game time it was below 36 degrees and I don't think I have ever been that cold since my college days in Boston. I actually had to leave at halftime as there was no way to get warm.

It was in the 2nd round of the playoffs in 2006 that the Celtics went up to Jax to play TCA and won 45-0. They then continued on to play Pahokee in the championship game. To tell you the truth that debilitating schedule that TCA played against very tough teams probably had something to do with last night's loss. If the Celtics had such a schedule they may not have been in the playoffs at all. TCA is still a formidable team and proved it by coming back in the 4th quarter when they were down by two TDs. However, our Jamarian Samuel is a superstar IMO and put the finishing touches on the victory.

79 and still kicking it. Of course Bell is 25 years younger than I am and is the OC of the South Florida Bulls. John Brantley III is only 60 and, as far as I know, is still going strong. I still attend the Celtic's home games but no longer follow them out of town. Night driving out of town is somewhat of a challenge these days. Thanks for your concern.

The Colts top RB Gilmore, after scoring the Colt's first TD, went out with an injury and never returned. That was half of their offense right there. They managed to survive. Columbia has a roster of 63 so losing a couple of players should not be that big of a deal. I don't know why people just can't give the 5A Colts credit for going up to Lake City and defeating the 6A Tigers fare and square.

Correct. I was at that game on the campus of Florida International University. It was in 2005  when John Brantley led the team at QB. It was 30-0 Celtics at the half and they were coasting along. The Celtics then got complacent and Pahokee scored 30 unanswered points in the 2nd half mostly on the arm of Robert Love. It took a key 4th down pass from Brantley for a first down and then a 65 yard run right up the middle of the Pahokee defense by RB Rudell Small to ice the game 37-30. Those were the days when Pahokee was one of the most feared teams in the state.

May I jump in here a moment? I think the question might be more apropos if we ask how do Florida teams in the aggregate stack up against other state's teams in the aggregate? Are our 600 or so HS Football Teams combined equal to or better than any other state's teams combined. Possibly a single elite team from California may be able to defeat our best team. But, can all of their teams, on any given Friday defeat all of our teams? I would be willing to bet that if all of our teams played all of another states teams that Florida would be winning percentage wise and may be the most prolific HS football state in the country. I just feel that Florida HS players, in general, are more talented, have better overall speed, and play with more abandon than most teams from out of state. Food for thought.

Practically no private school charges anywhere near that type of money. Most private and parochial schools charge in the neighborhood of $3,000 to $5,000 per year. Many of them charge practically nothing if you are a member. IMG is more than just a private school. They are a boarding school that trains athletes. A very expensive proposition.
I don't believe that IMG still receives funds from the state. They may have initially received some inducement funding. Usually that is a one time deal or possibly tax incentives over a period of time.
I'm quite sure that the state of California gave Microsoft a pretty good inducement package to locate there. Microsoft could have located anywhere else and I would bet that California's offer was probably better than the rest.
Who in the world thinks that you are stupid? If someone disagrees with someone's opinions how in the world does it make that person stupid? I, myself, think you're a pretty bright and knowledgeable person especially when it comes to HS football. We have differing philosophies on IMG that is all.

Agree. Madison seems to be a ground and pound team passing only if and when they need to. I think that Columbia will be able to slow down Madison's rushing game while Smith takes apart the Madison defense with those two exceptional Sr WR's. If Columbia can't defeat a one dimensional team like Madison then they will not go far in the playoffs IMO.

All I can say is what I witnessed. St Frances did not look like a top team regardless of who they were playing. Kept running plays that were not working. They also don't seem to have the speed that IMG has. I think that IMG will be ready for them. IMG always seems to have players that step up when other things may not be working. Just like Gennady Golovkin. One shot can change the entire fight and can produce a win.  IMG is also a team that has greatly progressed from the first game. However, they have to play and defeat SFA on their field which is always a difficult task. Columbiafan I know you'll be rooting for SFA but please try not to get too depressed if IMG takes them to the woodshed, OK.

Going on 6 years playing the best teams in the nation IMG has lost only two games. Both losses 2014 and 2018 were to arguably the top team in the nation. Instead of accepting the fact that IMG is a Florida high school team based in Florida and where the players live for most of the year, some of us make trivial of this fact. Yes, IMG does recruit as every private school and many public schools do. Yes, IMG has students from all over the US and the world. However, I would bet that nearly half of their students are already from Florida. They just have superb coaching and campus facilities unlike many schools in Florida. They are also a boarding school where the campus is their home 24/7 very similar to many colleges. I have no idea why a few people have a consistent hard on for this school and its team. Just accept the fact that they are, in spite of opposing opinions, a Florida school. They do represent the state of Florida when they play teams from other states. Can we not be proud of a team that can regularly hang with and usually defeat some of the best teams in the country? Those opposing teams recognize IMG as a Florida team, you can be sure. To have folks in Florida not recognize them as a Florida team is petty at best. After all, the team is made up of players that are exactly the same as every other high school team in the country. The same age, size, and disposition as the rest. As such, can't we all agree to accept IMG for the talented team that they are and get on with it? After all, they are just a bunch of high school kids who work hard and who are proud of what they have accomplished.

Don't worry about what others say about JaxTC. All they have to do is look at the schedule and the teams that the Conquerors play. Must be the most difficult or one of the most difficult in the state. I wonder how many teams could do as well against that schedule? Probably most of them could not. So, take it all in with a grain of salt and just smile knowing that JaxTC is one of the top teams in Florida, period.

Since Franks went down for the season on Saturday how do you think the Gators will do the rest of the season? Frank's replacement Trask looked pretty good and actually pulled out the game for Florida. Do you think Trask will be the starting QB here on in and are any of the other QB's on the roster as good? Myself, I never thought that Franks was that good of a QB and felt that the Gators could have done a lot better with someone else.
