  1. If I read the seeding properly of the final 8 :

    1) Lake Wales

    2) Naples

    3) Jenson Beach

    4) Dunbar

    5) Mainland

    6) Zephyrhills

    7) Columbia

    8) Choctawhatchee

hence the final four should be :

    Lake Wales vs Columbia

Naples vs Mainland (Homer thumb weight added)

181pl,  nice crystal ball.  But I'm hoping otherwise   :)

  2. I tried to post a "Heads up" on the site, but was unable to log back on after the original post. Section 104 is the Wild, Wild West !  It was a very entertaining game with Northwesten giving Central all they could handle and more. Think they jumped out to a first quarter 21-0 lead. It was sloppy most of the time and the red flags were flying all over the place to the tune of a couple hundred yards. Central didn't look like a Top 3 team in the country last night, but hats off to Miami Northwestern for bringing it. Both teams can play and beat anybody when at their best.

If I had 7 female teammates on a 8 man high school team I would be playing like Travis Henry or Chris Rainey :P

Ahead of your anticipated final move to Appalachia, you could start an 8 Man senior team with 7 female teammates collected at the locale Walmart in Lake City. Your popularity is legendary there. Just think, the New "Fabio" of Columbia County.

Clearly I have not. I get camaraderie. But you don’t have to be someone’s punching bag to achieve it

So there will be no punching bags in the 8 Man game ?  Unless Pine Ridge is playing a little religious school with 50 students, 25 of which are females they'll still be a doormat. Now if the next Travis Henry or Chris Rainey shows up on campus disregard everything I said. Those two would be unstoppable in 8 Man even with 7 female teammates.

Perhaps someone can explain to me why it is necessary to have "Jambun82" comment on the officiating of the SFA - Venice game. Those of us that watched the game could see obvious blown calls throughout the game that almost always went against SFA........

Well HornetFan, it started many years ago, for a few of us, on the FlaVarsity message board. It's a part of the "Rivals" family of high school football websites. Whenever a homer fan like myself (Mainland High) or others claimed we were unfairly shafted by the Refs our resident long time Florida Official "Janbun82" would interject and want the particulars of the egregious act against our teams. In all the years I never remember him siding with any of us "poor losers." Not saying it didn't happen, I just can't remember it. He couldn't go against his brothers, his family of officials. Even when I would point out every profession has good and bad, competent and incompetent he never budged an inch. So after all these years St Frances at Venice comes along and WE GOT THE GOODS ON VIDEO !  Will he, or won't he side with his family ? That's the question  :)

I don’t agree. Being on a team that is a punching bag for everyone else can’t be a great bonding experience. If the only thing you have in common is you both aren’t good at football then the bond won’t hold very long. Lol.

i believe 25 kids bonding together while being successful is more productive than 50 kids getting their asses handed to them for a couple months.

This would trim the fat and the other kids that aren’t meant to play can go find another extracurricular activity to partake in. This isn’t a charity. This is competition

Clearly you were never in the military or in battle. I never went to war, but some of my best military memories were of shared hardships (cold/hot weather, physical exhaustion, sleep deprivation, nasty food, miserable duties) with fellow soldiers. Team sports are no different. We got closer the more difficult things were for us as a group...been there.

Just because kids have a dream of making it to college football should not sway the decision whether a program needs to change course. Truth is 99.9 percent of the kids who play for these programs don’t play college football so the impact is practically non existent. There are kids who have dreams of going to college but get D’s and F’s. Everything isn’t for everybody.

Going to 8 man isn’t going to sway anyone because like I said the kids playing for these teams don’t go on to play college football.

Pine Ridge (Volusia county) has been a (football) loser since it's inception decades ago. Participation numbers have never been an issue there. With over 2000 students going from an 11 man team to an 8 man team cuts out 6 positions. Like the "Coach" above said (more or less) winning isn't everything. Now 6 possible starters with backups ride the bench. How is that better for want-to-be-athletes who want the camaraderie and association of being on a team sport in high school. You just cut the dreams of a dozen sons because they didn't win enough. That's not what school's about.

Check the scorestream thread of the game and you can see for yourself

Overall this is definitely not the same Madison County team from past years, Columbia seemed to dominate them in the trenches and Madison was uncharacteristically high in penalty yards, personally unless Madison County can significantly improve I don't see them winning 1R this year

Though I respect Madison for continuing to keep us on the schedule and best of luck the rest of the season

Didn't check "scorestream thread/webpage (?)",  wasn't aware it existed. But didn't Madison's long time coach and stabilizer leave this year ?  Since everything starts from the TOP are the Cowboys in freefall with the new guy ?

  9. My man, if you are short on time skip the first 1 hr, 40 minutes and go to 1:41:00 (1st fumble) where I , your friend, after 7 minutes turned the TV off. The Venice TD at 1:47:20 in slow motion with the camera standing behind the Official on the goal line says it all. It's the culmination of the ineptitude and or criminality, up to that point, of the striped shirted crew. If by chance you view the complete game, tell us all here ( at The Huddle ) if Venice received unfair treatment over  St. Frances from your limited television view with replays. Thank You.

Sounds like it was a thriller of a game. And the mascots make it even better lol like it was meant for a movie script how it played out. The Red Terrors gave them all they could handle, but in the end the Knights valiantly fought back in a torrential downpour and left victorious.

Nolebull is a hard a$$, strange dude  :)

    Depends

If the NG roster stays healthy then no

If NG has like 10 starters out with injury at the end of the season than I would more likely judge it based on at the time

But don't act like GA doesn't brag about wins far worse than NG this year to make their state "on par" with Florida

Nolebull, generally has the belief Florida sends to many "iffy" schools to out of state games that only embarrass us when they lose. He's a Florida homer, but covers himself nationally by knocking those schools. This year has be different. Florida has been kicking butt (G Rated). Nolebull doesn't know how to act. He doesn't like to play "nice."    :)

When Los is one of the most competent posters on that board is shows how far it's fallen but that's what the Prep Gridiron board is now

'Bo, if you're anything, it's you are consistent. You go after that rascal 'Canes whenever the opportunity arises. He's not the most lovable character out there, but in a strange way his "me against the world" disposition is somewhat endearing if not pity inspired. Surely he'd jump my a$$ reading that, LOL

Before people start bashing this matchup because this years' Green Wave are very young and have no chance of winning this game, I would like to take a moment to explain how this game came about.  Tonight is Sam Sirianni Night in Fort Myers.  It is a local celebration of our long- time coach, Sam Sr.  He led the Greenies for 33 seasons, including 5 decades, before his passing in '02.  His son Sammy Jr. took over and is still the HC at this time.  Coach Smith and Sam Sr were very close friends for many years.  Coach Smith contacted us numerous times over the summer about coming over to be a part of our night to honor our former coach.  With that said, Sam Jr. finally accepted, knowing full well that this year's team would not be able to give the Raiders much of a game. It's a celebration of our '92 team that lost at STA in the state semi's for the second year in a row.

In an effort not to make this post too long and boring, I just wanted to point out that even in this day and age, once in a while friendships and respect can still mean more than wins and losses at the high school level.  After getting to know Coach Smith and many of the Aquinas fans over the years, I have the utmost respect for the program and those close to it. I have an open invitation to Aquinas games and have seen many of their games from the sideline over the years. I knew of the school when it was Central Catholic High.  Had many friends who attended STA who were nationally ranked tennis players as was I. Jeanne and Chris Evert to name a few. So that should explain how this game came about and if I didn't explain this very well, please just reply and I will try to do better.

Wave, someone on the national board asked the same question why STA was playing at Fort Meyers instead of a current powerhouse. Not surprisingly an old nemesis, of many an unprepared fan, 'CANES, with a new handle/name, explained it much like you have. Good story, good history, and a few really good men. Hope the weather if accommodating.
