I think you need to get back together. You know her well!

She's a Norland grad.  She's been waiting 17 years for payback, lol.

Better as friends and co-parents.  Only God knows.... but I don't see it. :D

Think you might be right about Lake Wales, though Forum contributors from Polk will have better insight in that regard.  I did hear they not only lost Carlos Mitchell - class of'24, but their top prospects from the class of '25 & '26.  Who knows, there may have been even more defections and the claim was made that they even held out 6 players for the TC game.  Things will come a bit more in focus after the first regular season games.

The Ledger ran a piece on the Polk County transfers a few weeks back. Let’s just say that Lake Wales lost more personnel than they gained.

There's been a huge push in education to have "Small learning communities". But, it never dawned on people that you could have a bunch of small learning communities on a very large campus. You just need to hire enough teachers and staff to make it work.

    Florida’s class size initiative

The area around Tenoroc HS has yet to materialize into the burgeoning community it was planned to support. In the meantime, it draws from all of Lakeland and part of Auburndale to fill.

Meanwhile, East Polk is bursting at the seams and Polk County is trying to build another high school in Haines City. The locals are not happy with the current site selection, lol.

St X should be ashamed for playing a team that much smaller than them especially when there are so many teams their size that would be willing to play and can punch back

Agreed!  This brings up another question.  What is the value scheduling an OOS game against an opponent that is well above your weight class?  What is the motive?  Instant national status? A check? At some point, level-headed thinking needs to prevail from the coaches, AD, hell even principals/headmasters or whoever is responsible for the school.  Again, I wish the Celtics all the best because that's EXACTLY what they're going to need to even keep this game close.

    Colossal ass-whoopin on deck, smh

Due to the size of the community, it isn't on the same scale but when we played Niceville a few years back at their place in the semi-final playoff game it was great to see them have that kind of support and atmosphere for their team.

YES!!  Niceville's support and the way their stadium is set up immerses fans unlike very few places in Florida.

I watched highlights from several games around the country.  Valdosta (GA) @Massillon (OH), Bishop Gorman (NV) @Lone Peak (UT) and a few other games.  I just can't believe the stadiums, bands and atmospheres at these other states.  Texas HS football is absolutely insane.  The Massillon game had a college like stadium and atmosphere complete with fireworks.  Are there any schools in FL that match this kind of atmosphere where the community rallies around the team?  Metro teams tend to be terrible atmospheres just because there are too many teams within a short distance of each other so there is no sense of community.  Pinellas County is really dead.  My son's team played at North East HS two years ago and I counted 7 band members and not even enough people in the home stands to add up to the amount of parents of the players on the field, and Northeast had a 9-1 team that year.

So two questions.  One, why is there seemingly a lack of school spirit in Florida and two, where are there great atmospheres in this state? I assume it can only be a rural area.

How many people do you know who are not in high school, or have any family/friends affiliated with a football program that will go to a high school football game regardless of the teams playing?  That is the biggest question.

And you would have lost the game if not for a split-second touchdown at the end of the half that should have been a false start on Lakeland's left tackle. That game was NOT a blowout.

Maybe Venice stood a better chance to win had they noticed Lakeland hurrying to run another play.  Instead, they never got properly set and got caught sleeping.

There was no false start sir!  Lakeland/Venice - tying touchdown before the half

The game may not have been a blowout on the scoreboard even though the stats tell a different story.  Lakeland still won!

They haven't had anything worth shooting, er, fighting for over a decade. :o

Let's see how FIGHT they have at Stuart Martin, at Lakeland, Golden Gate, Lake Wales, Sebring

Well, they've gotten a few transfers (according to the Ledger) so maybe they found the missing pieces to that puzzle.

    Funny you say that Nulli

A Lakeland fan and LGibson fan got into it a heated discussion on Facebook earlier today about last nights games and homegrown kids.

It got to the point that the Lakeland fan(female) said to the LG fan(male), "You must not be getting any ,,,,," :o

    I REST MY CASE!

I won't even get into the rationale of the sexes OR the fact that this was a Lakeland fan versus a Braveheart!

Yes, I saw your funny little comment on Scorestream. You didn’t think I was gonna let you get away with that so easily, did you?

Lakeland had better pray that Manatee is able to take out Venice, because if they don’t…

I knew that would get your attention.  I'm pulling for the Indians.  However, if Venice falls to Manatee, four still walks out the door... AGAIN!

Good luck on the season Indians!

Was pulling for Osceola to win this game but knew that Apopka was going to be very tough; their defense is no joke and will be the reason they win 4M.  Congrats to both teams on a very well-played game. Can’t wait to see Osceola do damage in 4S!

You do realize that doesn't bode well for the Indian's quest to "Not let four go out the door....AGAIN!"

    Let the trash talking commence!

Thanks, should be another great game like they both were last year.  Albeit us on the short end of the score. :D

Osceola has a tendency to be underrated although it is one of the more consistent programs in Central Florida.  I loved and hated sharing a district with y'all, lol.

From our point of view despite the score, it turned out to be a good night for our squad knowing most favored the Darters by 2 TD's with our all-state RB (Taevion Swint) on the mend for the first couple of games.   We rotated two green QB's (both sophomores) with one playing the entire 1st and 4th quarters and the other the entire 2nd and 3rd quarters.   It took a quarter to establish our running game, but after that the young backup RB group I predicted would carry the load started to gain their footing which eventually allowed us to throw a little bit.   Overall, the officiating crew I thought did an excellent job calling penalties correctly and consistently throughout the game.  They did have FOUR crucial 50/50 calls to make during the game that could have gone either way and they chose to rule in Apopka's favor on all of them.  The FIRST came after the opening Kickoff was returned for about 50 yards deep into our territory to start their drive.  After a penalty aided first down, two of our defenders tackled their RB at the line of scrimmage and although still standing/struggling for extra yards he was instantly stripped of the ball by Jalen Bell and as he started running with it the official blew the play dead allowing them to keep possession.  It eventually led to a FG for their first 3 points.   The SECOND occurred when they decided to go for it on 4th and 1 deep in our territory.  Based on what I saw plus the reaction of players on both sides (ours were ecstatic & they hung their heads), he failed to make the first down; both teams were leaving the field as possession seemingly changed hands when the refs seemed to talk, reposition the ball moving it forward about a half yard.  They then signaled first down and waved both back on to the field.  I have never seen anything like that before.  The THIRD was basically a repeat of the second, but this time from the 1 yard line on a goal line stand.  Again they didn't appear to make it, our kids were jumping up and down while they looked at the referee who then signaled a TD.  The FOURTH was at the end of the game with a minute left on the clock.  We had driven deep into their territory and on 3rd and long we threw a corner route from about the 20 yard line.  Our WR was behind the defender, but the ball was underthrown and he adjusted, circling back in front of the defender to make the catch in the endzone right on the sideline.  Obviously, this is all from my biased perspective but again he looked in bounds and the official signaled him out.  We attempted a FG with our new kicker (zero varsity time) and it sailed just outside the upright to the left.  All in all, though no moral victory our young upcoming players filling key spots I thought did an excellent job against a top quality team.  GO KOWBOYS!!

Congrats to the Kowboys on a strong performance.  I hope that's a catalyst for a great season even on 9/15 when we come to town for the win.  :D
