thats a great bunch of info.
looking at team a and team c, they have a pretty weak schedule.
rpi rankings couldnt get here soon enough.  jeez....

Yes, it is the RPI first, and RPI is not just affected by a team's winning percentage, but two other factors as well.
So if team A could be 3-7 (1-1 in district)
    Team B could be 5-5 (1-1)
Team C could be 4-6 (1-1) and Team A could be district champion if their RPI is higher than B or C.

Tonight I went to watch Lake Nona at Timber Creek. As a North West Orange County guy, this was way over on the other side of town. But I had a suspicion it would be a good game and I was not disappointed. The score when I left with 2:40 remaining in the 4th was TC 16 Nona 14. I left because a decent crowd was there and I wanted to beat the traffic given I had an hours drive to get home. On offense Nona had three athletes 18, 4 and 9,who impressed me. 18 was their QB who has a good arm, maintains his composure well, and though not a dual threat, is able to evade defenders well buying a second or so to get rid of the ball. No 4 is a tall rangy receiver who reminds me size wise of Harding at West Orange last year. He lacks the athleticism of Hardin, but makes up for it with his ability to go up and get the ball and his safe hands and good route running. No 9 lined up mostly in the slot and made several good plays. He also played corner and performed well on the defensive side too.
On offense TC displayed an undersized QB, no 5, Tanner who has a decent arm for his size and makes good decisions. I was somewhat disappointed with their line play but the offensive line is bound to improve under coach Z's capable hands. My sense is that both of these teams, though neither is a state contender at this stage, had solid chances of making the playoffs and could win a game or two in the post season. I thought LN utilized the game better in terms of giving more guys touches particularly in the second half.
Despite the rather long trip, I don't regret making this game, and when Apopka has a soft opponent I could see myself going to watch either of these teams during the regular season.

    Yes.
    Here’s why:
    1) Player evaluation. You get to see the guys put on pads and play in a real life situation. How did Timmy look at CB against the best WR in the city? How do John & Jimmy match up against each other come game time?
    2) Play-calling evaluation. How did we handle 3rd & 7 or long? How did our 4-2-5 look against a spread offense?
    3) Offseason lifting evaluation. Do the guys look bigger, faster, stronger than they did last season?
    4) A reward for the kids for putting in the work in spring practice.
    5) Establishing that team’s identity. Did you work hard all winter to make the team more physical? Did that work?
All the spring is, is an evaluation period. At least for good programs with good coaches. Seeing what went well, what went okay, and what just went to hell. It’s an excellent opportunity to get better and any time you can get better is a necessary and wonderful thing.

    remind, not a sms.
remind can be set to 1 way message the players.  having the kids reply to text is setting up a dangerous situation, in my opnion.
remind is good because of the 1 way part, dole out the information to everyone and be done.  now if kids have questions, idk what to say, or if they need to let you know something, im not sure about that either.
teachers texting my kid, i dont think I would be a big fan of that.

while I will say that its great what the colts do, but to be perfectly honest,
what in the hell is there to do in indiana during december?  its cold, rainy/snowy, windy, temps in the 30s at night....
thats why 7k show up.  there aint much to do.....
take disney, universal, the beach away from floridians, all during december, when its somewhat 60-80 every day and nights on the low end of 60s, sometimes, and they may pack the citrus bowl, as there wouldnt be much to do.
if the roof was put on, and weather of no type was concern(have been when its rainy, or foggy, or chilly cold) may see a bit of an increase of 4k in people.
too many things to do on a friday or saturday night in orlando, vs indianapolis.

No problem, Gatorman.  They are way ahead of us.  Each coach will be given a football-shaped computer named "RIPI."    All coach will have to do is "ASK RIPI" and he will get an up-to-the-minute update on the playoff status of his team or any other.

Chip G had health issues and between that and a lack of administrative support when the Olympia principal came over (she had run Bob Head away from Olympia), he called it a day. Some of the staff he had at Evans for that brief run are now at Wekiva and have created a thorn for the Darters.

You could probably add Orlando Evans to that list. In 1991 it was co-state champion and in the 1980s through 2001 was a perennial playoff contender. Today, Evans struggles to win two games in a season. It is not as if athletes are not there. Basketball still does pretty well and the soccer program has had some success over the past 10 seasons.
A good staff with the commitment and administrative buy in, could potentially return Evans to playoff contender status.

Hey I like that their trying but you have just added: Mandatory filming of JV games.
I still think a well tested power rating like a LAZ or PINKOs would work better.
Seems the RPI is to stop all of us basic math coaches to be able to figure out the process/results to be able to complain about the problems!

So you have to schedule a team, that's going to schedule good teams, and the teams that they scheduled will have to schedule good teams, and those teams will have to schedule good teams, and then those teams will have to schedule good teams, also ...............
So how do you know who to play???

I would expect new schools to struggle generally at the higher levels and have more success at the lower levels.
So a brand new 4A school (after 2 years of being independent), I would expect to do better in their district than say a 6A school and a 6A to do better than an 8A school. I would expect this because of depth issues. In 8A, you just need more depth than a 4A school. I have no data, just an opinion.

Just curious, but does this problem show up in other sports or just football. Is football the program that needs a larger community support to create winning programs than say volleyball or soccer?

i know 3 guys that was on the staff the 1st year and 1 that is still there.
their first season, was ran by a coach that had never been a head guy before.  not an issue, but im not sure if he had ever been a coordinator either.  the words I got from a couple of guys was, each week they put in a new offense because they couldnt score.  1 week lets run spread pass, air raid.  0 points, scrap it and monday were installing the wishbone, 0 points, now lets run the wing t, nope no points, empty qb single wing read option, negative points that week.
a brand new school, pulling from some local powerhouses, should be hiring a coach that has some history as the guy in charge.  scoring all but 3 points wouldnt have been a major eyesore if the kids got better weekly and you could see some type of idenity coming out.
now 2 of those guys are not on staff anymore.  they both told me it was a set up job to begin with, hire someone who will fall flat on his face and watch the current guy(who was AD and hired him) take over and they get some wins and he is the savior.
but, you know how disgruntled former coaches are,

new schools should be independent for the first 2 years, unless its in the middle of a cycle, go independent, then put them in a district.
part 2 of that is, a brand new school is already 7a? 8a?  thats insane.  thats poor planning on the powers that be.  so the schools they took from, did they drop a class?  if the answer is no, thats a problem in itself.  school was way too big and overcrowded.  west orange was 45-4700 when they split, they didnt drop  a class, 2k kids from them went to windermere(which the community did not want btw) and they pull another few from olympia and its full.  didnt build to projections (west orange county is BOOMING), built to relieve 1 school, for the most part.
    windermere is now 8a...

I'm all about being fiscally responsible and minimizing expenses like playoff travel.  Where I take issue is when I hear schools complaining about travel and at the same time I see them spending money on what I consider luxuries, ie fancy weight rooms with flat screen TV's.  I see new schools being built today with luxuries we would not have dreamed of years ago.  I hear parents complaining about such things when they have no problem spending hundreds of dollars on the latest electronic gadget.
If travel for a first round playoff game is truly a burden, it opens up questions concerning a LOT of ways our schools are spending money today.  And I've stated in previous posts, I think parents should be taking more of a personal responsibility to support teams in the public school system.  How about making that TV last another year and giving the money to the team to help support playoff travel?
It's all about priorities.  And if we are worried today about playoff travel costs, why are we not screaming about how our public school system is spending money like it's going out of style on certain things?  We sure ain't living like we are hurting for funds.
If you have to ask about gas mileage of a Rolls Royce, you probably have no business shopping for one.  And if we need to be concerned about the costs of playoff travel costs, we need to rethink our budgets and the way we are allocating funds today.

Lyman's district contains Winter Springs, Lake Howell, and East River.  I believe Lyman has had more playoff experience than the others, so I picked them.  Please keep in mind, these aren't predictions on my part.  In this case, it was just a guess!  It does point out there are some very weak districts amongst the classes.  Not that it would ever be feasible to completely avoid.

I get that Liberty may not exactly fit that criteria of the teams I'm putting on blast

I'm just saying that teams out there doing what I'm describing is what hurts a school like Liberty because the fhsaa had to change the points to make sure teams weren't going to game the system (like Wildwood last year or St Joseph to a extent this year)
