OldSchoolLion reacted to Bocefous70 in Quiz-Who Are These Hard Luck Teams?
You should have given me 20 more minutes haha I forgot they used to be 2A. One whole less round of games to get to the semis

That is also false... Playing out of state won't necessarily prepare them for games in state... Considering of Armwoods only 3 state titles (only 2 counted because the won in 2011 in the Ineligible Bowl with Central) they only played out of state once (Goreman in 2011)
For Plant 4 state titles (keep in mind they have played out of state a whole lot
2011 - Played and beat Bergren Catholic (won title)
2006 - Did not play OOS (won title)
2008 - Did not play OOS (won title)
2009 - Did not play OOS (won title)
2010 - played OOS (got waxed by STA IN STATE)
2012 - played OOS (did not make finals)
2013 - played OOS (lost in semis)
2014 - played OOS (did not make finals)
2015 - played OOS (did not make finals)
2016 - played OOS (Against not a very good team) (got waxed by STA IN STATE)
2017 - Did not play OOS
There is no correlation to playing out of state and winning a state title for them... If anything when they started that trend titles went away... Would probably help more if they could play in state against competitive teams week over week in an open division instead of playing teams like Leto, Blake, Middleton and neighborhood Rival Robinson.

It may be sheer coincidence....or maybe not....
STA did not win a state title between 2000-2006...their driest spell since 1990....years Mark Guandolo was at Chaminade.
Between 2007 and 2011, STA won 3 state titles, their best stretch to date. None of the other private schools in Broward were doing anything those years.

People wanted this game very badly about 15 years ago when Mark Guandolo was at Chaminade-Madonna. The word on the street was that STA had everything to lose and nothing to gain by playing them. I guess the thought was that if STA beat Chaminade people would say it was expected and no big deal, but if they lost, it would be an upset.

"Punishment" is one way to look at it. The other way is to look at being in the top division as one of prestige. In England, the top soccer league is the Premier League. There is a lot of prestige to be in that league. Many would rather see their club be middle of the pack in that league than at the top of the lower league.

I think the first 2 FSU High School games (Ft. White vs Florida High and Taylor County vs Florida High) were also very competitive games. CCC/TC and Chaminade/Oxbridge were competitive as well. So, I'd say 4 of the 15..but your point is well taken.
I see TC as a 7-3 type team this year. If they can find a way to upset Crestview on the road, then 8-2 is achievable, but that's going to be a tough task without some help. I think they have enough star power at running back (Caleb Tate, Jalen Bussey) and enough at WR (Chris Murray, DJ Taylor) to have a successful season, but the region is to strong to simply run the ball without a semblance of a passing attack week in and week out.
As far as the CCC/TC game last year- the playoff game was a classic and made up for the dud earlier in the year when CCC won TC 25-0. You have to go back quite a few years to find the last time the road team won in that series.
All of that said- I forsee north 3A being far more competitive than south 3a. But your 3A finals is going to be the biggest blowout in recent FHSAA finals history... Chaminade is simply too deep to be playing in 3A a

OldSchoolLion reacted to s1nglewing in Apopka single wing clips
Some of the single wing philosophy's strengths are that opposing coaches often underestimate its' complexity, thinking that because the offense was first developed in the early 1900's that it is simple. Another is that opposing coaching staffs have usually only three days to attempt to replicate in practice, with scout team players no less, the single wing... and really it just can't be done - so their defense will get it's first real look on the game field. They're playing catch-up from the outset of the game.

"Important" is a subjective term, ColumbiaFan. Only an individual can decide what his biggest victory is in life.

The most thrilling game I remember was not a championship game. It was a game that involved the need to overcome incredible odds. Adversity defines a man as well as a team...and it does not always come at one's most glorious moment in life.

OldSchoolLion reacted to DarterBlue2 in SFL vs Orlando Teams in 8A
In my opinion, the Orlando area would have won more games. Of course I am biased. However, let me say that I feel Apopka, Osceola and Dr. Phillips, for sure, would have had solid winning records against the South Florida schools. I also feel that the remaining 4 Orlando area schools would have split 50/50 or come very close to 50/50 against the South Florida teams.
Why? In the case of Apopka, its single wing offense would give the South Florida teams fits, at least for the first two of the three years. With respect to DP and Osceola, they have just had really, really good teams each of the past three years. I feel 2016 Seminole was an excellent team, and that 2017 and 2016 Wekiva had stellar defenses. I am also fairly confident that Boone and Winter Park would have won enough games (even if not 50%) to ensure the Orlando area got over the hump the past three years.

It is getting quite confusing. There are schools like Mater Academy and Doral Academy in Miami-Dade, which sound like private schools, but are actually part of the public school system.

If you put all of the 1A-4A public schools in the Panhandle together in one class, it would probably be quite competitive. I believe a lot of those schools play each other during the regular season anyway, and the smaller schools sometimes have the upper hand.
