If they did this for football last year and went by MaxPreps rankings which I know aren't great but we will use them here is what the open class football bracket could have looked like for the North.

NORTH

Region 1

1 Baker County 2 Crestview  3 West Florida 4 Wakulla 5 Escambia 6 Godby 7 Navarre 8 Clay

Region 2

1 St Augustine 2 Raines 3 Bartram Trail 4 Vanguard 5 Trinity Christian 6 Mainland 7 Fleming Island 8 Lee

Region 3

1 Dr Phillips 2 Wekiva 3 Winter Park 4 Osceola 5 Apopka 6 Jones 7 Boone 8 West orange

Region 4

1 Armwood 2 Plant 3 Riverview 4 Lakeland 5 Tampa bay Tech 6 CCC 7 Hillsbourough 8 Palmetto

This is for basketball, baseball, softball, soccer and I think it will get passed.  Once it does and schools like it I believe football will be next.  I think this system is great for most people.  However I think it punishes the schools that are really really good but not elite.

So it would punish someone like us if we were to end up in the highest classification because if we did we would be one of the ones on the edge of the cutoff

Well at least ik for softball that we would still have Gainesville in our same class and as long as we get them in our class across the board they I will be ok with any system they make

But question

Where is madison County?

I saw a similar one to this a while back and using maxpreps rankings Madison would be in highest classification

"Punishment" is one way to look at it.  The other way is to look at being in the top division as one of prestige.  In England, the top soccer league is the Premier League.  There is a lot of prestige to be in that league.  Many would rather see their club be middle of the pack in that league than at the top of the lower league.

I guess one region could be STA, AHP, Cardinal Gibbons and Chaminade?  If so, would kids be as interested in going to a school like Chaminade knowing the chance of a state title is greatly reduced?

...possibly similar scenarios with Jones or CCC with kids migrating to the more powerful schools in the region?

I took Madison out because I didn't think they would mess with the 1A rural.  I could be wrong

Hey it's almost like for the past 7 years I have been saying this... basing classifications solely on enrollment has been and remains a bad policy for high school sports in the semi-professionalizing of the sport.

I have before talked about the idea of a promotion and relegation idea.
I have talked about if we are going to stick to enrollment than successful teams should have enrollment added for their success, especially in non-football sports where the same 16 teams seem to be in the finals in sports like softball, soccer, and volleyball.

I am unsure if the schools that are not in Division 1 and 2 will still have districts, but I hope they will as I think district tournaments are a great way to get teams into the playoffs.

Definitely a step forward... I think MaxPreps is fine for non-football level, but with better models like Laz and Pinkos for football.

I've seen maxpreps rankings for other sports

There has to be a better option

You are right, they clearly overranked Columbia High School's softball team at #9 in 7A considering they lost in the first round and Gainesville a team that won the district is ranked #10. Burn it to the ground.

We earned our ranking throughout the season

But of course you talking about us losing in first round when you don't know jack about the game

And at least we put up a fight against niceville when our softball team played them,  you all got destroyed

But why should i be surprised, you all same team who had a 6-0 lead and choked it

Unless you were at that First round game between Columbia and bartram this year then don't run your mouth

Ask Marty Pallman

Ask Corey Davis

Maybe they can fill you in on how officials decided that game

I'm not type of person to complain about officials but when a minimum of 4 runs are decided by clear-cut  bad calls by officials and even the announcers of the game recognized that the calls were questionable and those same officials are from a local association of the HOME team (bartram trail)

I will call bullshit

First, watch your mouth and stop making assumptions. At no point have I ever said what team I support, you are assuming something because I am a gator and a fan of UF. Try again.

Second, you lost twice to Gainesville out of 3 games this year. They beat you on the field. And my point, is that the rankings are just fine if the goal is find the top 64 teams, they do their job.

Finally, are you incapable of putting all that information in one post? does it really take 3 posts to try and insult me and defend a game that you let umpires decide?

You are the one who insulted me by acting like you knew more than a game then i did

I was right there for the game, unless you were at the bartram game don't sit here and act like we didn't earn our ranking because that team worked hard all season and 1 loss don't take away the fact that they earned that ranking during the season

What no apology for suggesting that I am a Gainesville fan? And again with the 3 posts when one post would do.

Again, the only thing that matters is that you officially lost, umps/referees/officials/aliens, you lost. I notice you still haven't mentioned that Gainesville beat you twice and were lower in the rankings. If you want to make a point about the rankings, that is what you should be mentioning. A team that clearly is better on the field somehow is still lower in the rankings. Miracle Sports isn't the answer as it is a human poll.

"My cheap shot" was pointing out that a team that loses in the Round of 32 probably isn't worthy of being in the top 10. If nothing else, a team that beat them twice, should probably be ranked higher. Heck Gainesville had no problem beating Bartram. So try again. Officials calls are part of the game, they happen.

Go back to 2013 and ask the Middleburg, Oakleaf, and Mosley coaches if the umpires ruled in favor of Columbia during CHS's run to the state championship that year.

I don't even care where maxpreps ranked us,  i didn't bother looking

Only poll i looked at was prepzone and miracle sports,  only thing i use maxpreps for is for national rankings DURING THE SEASON

And we went 3-1 the previous year,  i did respond

Gainesville better enjoy their short success because we will take that district back this year and I'm going to enjoy every second of putting it back in the face of Gainesville

Oh and come August 23rd I'm gonna to enjoy every single second of watching us put down the purple chokecanes

I'm not gonna even respond to your comments of 2013 team since it's clear that is just a attempt to get me to retaliate and make myself look like a idiot

    • I’m not saying it doesn’t occur. What I am saying is that everything is case by case so if you are accusing a specific coach/team of cheating, I would at least like to see the evidence of the accusation. Because if you don’t then you are basically defaming them with gossip
    • Are you saying illegal recruiting does not occur in Florida ?     Wake up and take your blinders off
    • Dang shame. Wonder what it was about. Wonder if the principle was meddling out of his element.    There was a story near me about Land O Lakes High. Before the season, 2 freshman were slap boxing and other kids were filming it. One kid was obviously winning over the other with the kids in the background cheering it on. So when it got leaked, it was interpreted as hazing. As if all the kids in the background were sanctioning it.    Without one second of investigation the principal shut the entire football program down. Varsity season cancelled over 2 freshman slap boxing. It caused a shit storm. Local news swarmed the school. Parents outraged. Protesting outside the office demanding the principal be fired.    They finally asked some quick questions and it was determined to be exactly what it was originally said it was. Football was reinstated but JV missed the first game over it.    The principal was some punk pencil neck who looks like he never played a sport in his life and many people came out and said he had it out for the football program and he was the same way at his old school.    I say all that to say is this a similar case of some pencil neck principal who never played sports trying to undermine and butt in to something that they are way out their element on?
    • Word is, Coach Banks the former head coach was escorted off campus last week after a heated discussion with the principle. from what i have been told this stems from banks talking to the paper about the program.
    • They definitely would have been competitive. They had a really good and really young OL coming back. They also had settled into a pattern of getting plenty of transfers.
