I'm not sure. Are you seeing something there?
Not especially, and I don't like to criticize or critique game officials. However, from the limited point-of-view of the video, I noticed more contact from the slot receiver than #10.

Im a first year official doing jv and freshman games. This is not true. They tell us during our trainings not to call things that are on opposite side of the field, unless its unsportsmanlike, a saftey issue, or the played has been warned multiple times.
Yes, aknenn, that is absolutely correct. I wish you all the best in your officiating career.

The play in question is the first play in this highlight collection. It is replayed from a better, wider angle at 00:51 through the conclusion. Best I can tell, they call it on the WR #10. What are your thoughts?
Skyway, are you sure the foul was called on #10, and not the slot receiver?

A penalty is a penalty, even when it has no effect on the actual play. How often do we see penalties called on the opposite side of the field, away from the play? It's a teaching moment for the coach to avoid having it happen again, but kids are kids and it will happen again.
HornetFan, that is not entirely accurate. Player Safety fouls are always penalties wherever that occur on the field of play, end zone, or sideline. However, many judgment call type of fouls such as holding, OPI, or DPI, are not usually called unless these fouls have a direct effect on the play. Most Head Coaches agree with this reasoning, and it behooves most Officials to try to limit fouls to the absolute necessary with the obvious exception of player safety fouls.

Hey I have a question about a situation that came up in our game
We were attempting a XP our holder got up with the ball as if it was a fake then went back to a knee for the kicker to kick the ball but wouldn't that have ruled the play dead since he got up with the ball then took a knee?
If the snap was a little high, the holder has some leeway to take his knee off the ground to retrieve the ball, and then get back on his knee to place the ball for the kicker. If the snap is normal, and the holder fumbles the ball, and gets off his knee, then the play would be dead immediately if the holder put his knee back on the ground.

Pretty much every type, Jambun. However, primarily Chop Blocks, Holding, and Personal Fouls. Just seemed like every other play there were flags thrown. Possibly these two teams are not that disciplined and the penalties were more prevalent because of it. Maybe the Refs wanted to keep the game civilized. Can't really blame them. Delay of game, offside, and motion penalties should be taken with a grain of salt as these are not college or professional teams. Some leeway should be given. Otherwise the game grinds to a halt, IMO. Another thing to consider, especially in the extreme heat of south Florida, is that every flag that is thrown forces the players to redo plays. Takes a lot of effort just to play a normal game. When you get multiple flags being thrown that doubles the amount of plays to set up and execute. I sometimes believe that some refs are glory seekers who want as much recognition as the players. The game should be about the players and not the refs.
Holding, if the foul is not at the point-of-attack, motion, and delay of game fouls can be judgment calls. However, Personal Fouls, Chop Blocks, and Offside, if the foul is encroachment, are NOT judgment calls. These type of fouls are Player Safety fouls, and need to be called regardless of the score or status of the game. No official however should be looking to be seen or noticed. This game is about the players only. Not the officials or the coaches.

I don't know whether MNW just had an off night or whether IMG is just that much better. MNW looked terrible. Certainly didn't look like a top Florida team or even a regular Florida team. Their offense was out to lunch. Their defense was somewhat better. That being said, IMG didn't look like a world beater either. I think they should give their backup QB a chance as their starter was anything but spectacular. I don't know whether it was just that IMG was playing a supposedly top Florida team or whether IMG is just not quite as good as previous years. But neither of these teams looked anything but ordinary IMHO. And, what is it with these Refs? Are they getting paid by the flag thrown or what? Seemed like every other play and sometimes every play that they were flagging something or somebody. Made watching this game very irritating. I know that MNW is really a very good team and will probably go on to win the rest of their games including probably the championship game. I also know that IMG is a nationally ranked team and will probably go on to win all or most of their games. But, last night they could have fooled me.
Proseteye, what types of fouls were most frequently called by the officials in this game?

Any program can be turned around in my opinion. Daytona Beach Mainland has made the playoffs 25 years in a row and 26 of the last 27 years. if you go back 3 years before their first playoff appearance, they were 4-36 in a 4 years span.
The instance of Daytona Beach Mainland was that the talent was always there, but there was a lot of apathy, and most of the kids in that area had to work. When Doug Stanley became the Head Coach in 1989, he was able to go into the community, talk to employers, and get the talented kids to play football. Mainland was a sleeping giant until that point. Dan in Daytona would be able to expound on this point.

Thank you for answering my questions Legion37, LakelandGator and Skyway.

Have to flag this. Lakeland led STA by 19 with 2 minutes and change to play, having had an easy TD called back, another easy TD dropped and a bogus hurdling penalty on a great run. Central TRAILED STA going into the 4th quarter. They won by 16 on what looked a lot like a garbage time TD. Your memory seems to have faded a bit here.
Skyway, what problem did you have with the hurdling call in the state title game? I viewed the game on youtube, but I don't remember that specific call.

Lakeland could stop lakeland and perhaps injuries. Last night only the Ref's stopped Lakeland and the running clock. Lakeland was awfully dominant last night and they were without their starting QB, transfer Chayil Garnett who is a big time passer. (6-2 205 with 2,028 passing yards and 18 TD's to just 4 INT's while at Lake Wales). When Lakeland adds that to their attack (and last night the QB was pretty decent when he did throw.) just imagine!
Legion37, how do you feel that the officials stopped Lakeland and the running clock.

Jambun82 they are pretty impressive...they definitely pass the eyeball test. They are huge across the OL. Their RB(#24 i think) is a very strong runner. We are were able to run and throw on them...we hit a 60 yard post pattern and missed on another when the WR was running wide open behind the secondary. I look for them to be contending for the state championship again in 1A.
TRAJAN01, thank you for this information, but could you tell me what type of offense Madison County runs? Are they predominately a running team? Do they play with any sort of tempo? Do they run a no-huddle? What type of defense do they run? Thank you again.

Wakulla and Madison ended with Madison leading 27 - 26. Wakulla had just scored and was lining up to kick the extra point to tie when the game was stopped due to lightning. Both teams look real good.
TRAJAN01, is there any more information that you could possibly provide about Madison County? Thank you.

Finding good young quality men and women who are willing to put the time and effort in to be an official is huge problem right now in the state of Florida. There is a shortage of officials across all sports in high school. The problem is very acute in football however.
-
I know that there is a semi-pro team, the Magic City Bulls. The Bulls have Northwestern blue and gold colors and logo. I know that a lot of former Northwestern players play for the team, and the team owners are affiliated with the high school. I wonder if any former Central Rockets would be welcomed onto the team, and of so, would those players be comfortable wearing the Bulls blue and gold? lol

I get the feeling that there is a lot of mutual respect between Northwestern and Central players and fans.

credit to the youtuber who has posted a number of great games
Yes I know. Thanks to you for posting the video on this message board however.

OldSchoolLion, thank you very much for posting this game. I will never forget attending this game as a High School Senior with most of our football team. We were sitting on the Southeast side, and I remember very well the cockiness of the Seminole fans turning to nervousness as Daunte Culpepper lead the Knights down the field, especially his scramble on fourth and 17 I believe for a first down. Also, the joy when the Vanguard kicker missed the field goal at the end of the game. It was a great experience.

Some crap team from New Jersey apparently. Glen Ridge High
Glen Ridge, New Jersey is where the sexual assault of the mentally disabled teenager by several football players was covered up by the town powers-that-be. There was a movie starring Ally Sheedy and Eric Stoltz made about that incident.

No problem. I had heard from somewhere that that game was extremely well-officiated despite the 63-0 score.

OldSchoolLion, are you sure that the Bolles-Umatilla game was in 2013, not 2014?

I believe that I remember reading an interesting story about Alonzo Highsmith in Jimmy Johnson's autobiography. When Alonzo was very young, his parents enrolled him in the Florida Pre-Paid College program. Of course, when Highsmith received an athletic scholarship from U of M, he didn't need that money for collage anymore. His parents were refunded the money, and bought Alonzo a nice car. Now, the geniuses at the NCAA just had to get curious, and just had to investigate. Mr. and Mrs. Highsmith and U of M had to waste time and money defending themselves from this ridiculous "organization" and their fake manufactured outrage.
Jambun etc, assess this penalty call by the officials

I believe that is what most officials would say why they officiate. To give back to the sport, and stay involved with football.
