Okay man, we will agree to disagree on this one.  You spout on about my lack of facts (fair enough) but you don't throw any facts out yourself to defend them.  Simply having a great football team doesn't make the school legit either.  I find them highly suspect based upon circumstances of extremely small enrollment and sudden investment in football but on the other hand they aren't any different than IMG which most folks seem okay with.
As far as F rated schools, that is a completely different topic based upon public school funding and local neighborhood socioeconomics.  In fact, public money (via vouchers) going to these private schools is money that could be flowing into these F rated schools.  At least I agree with you here in that this needs to be addressed.  It's a tough solution and I don't really know how to fix it because it is much deeper than simply throwing money at the problem.

Dude, I am talking about the school itself.  Coaches and players are there to play football. There probably isn't even a single scientologist on the team.  They are being used for a purpose by that school, which is what my point is.  In the end, it is mutually beneficial so I can't call these kids exploited but that doesn't make the school any more legitimate.

By "not legitimate" I mean that their primary goals are not education like the focus of all schools should be.  Some illegitimate private schools, for example, are just for profit and were created just to collect that private school voucher from the state, using athletic scholarships as their primary means for doing so.  Now CAI is especially suspect because their primary focus is to promote Scientology (despite their secular mission statements) because we ALL KNOW that scientology is extremely secretive and and is extremely interested in promoting itself to recruit new members, especially ones that can pay up.  Having high performing sports teams is one way of attracting attention to your weird little school.

Heard Tom Cruise is joining the coaching staff at CIA. I bet he gives one hell of a pre game speech.

I know I've been shot down here before but I still think CAI is a total bullshit school.  Look at it's listed enrollment per grade below where there are 76 total students listed in grades 9-12.  If you take out the football team, there's barely any students remaining (unless these stats don't count the players).  I've seen other estimates that might put them above 100 students total for high school, but even then there's hardly any left after you subtract their rent-a-players.  Shady stuff if you ask me.  Oh yeah, there's also the mysterious Scientology religious affiliation part too.

This is almost 40 years ago.  Things were so vastly different back then.  The private schools had not yet invested into athletics (for the most part) to enhance their school's profile so most of their players were rich white kids.  I remember playing against Bishop Verot and Cardinal Mooney back then and laughing at these kids trying to catch our speedy skill players.  The public schools had strict transfer rules so they were at the mercy of whichever group of kids were moving through their system at any given four-year interval.  That's why schools would rise and fall a few times per decade.  The traditional public powers were a little more resistant to the down periods because they tended to be in a talent rich areas but even they would miss the playoffs some years.
Fast forward to today and the only time you see a public power down is if they had forfeits or suffered from a mass transfer exodus out (see Lakewood this year... live by the sword, die by the sword).  The privates never have down years and load up on kids who probably wouldn't be attending their schools without a free ride.  Non-powers develop kids only to see them get stolen once they are productive, repeating their cycle of staying down and the powers staying up.

I *guarantee* you that a majority of high level players give zero shits about their education.  In fact, this is where the privates are at a huge advantage because they can do whatever they want with respect to education and create "athlete friendly" curriculums where they hardly even have to attend classes and can workout and watch film throughout the day.  Do you think anybody on the IMG travelling squad is actually a real student during the day like any other player would be at a public school?  Hell naw.
Mostly though the private schools are at an advantage because of budget.  They will always have the best facilities and top notch coaches since they can actually pay them what they're worth instead of a measly public school stipend.

Yes this is the exact problem I have with this proposed open division.  As usual the FSHAA fixes something by proposing an even worse solution.  They are avoiding the root cause of all issues and that is recruiting/transfers.  It seems simple enough to separate school choice from athletics such that anyone is free to transfer for academics but they must sit out a year of athletics unless they moved to that school zone?  This doesn't solve the private school unfairness but just throw them into their own athletic association and be done with it.  Screw em.

Tennessee has one division with 6 classes for public schools, and a separate division with 3 classes for private schools.  It works great.  Unfortunately in the current political environment, there is a zero percent chance that such a plan would ever be implemented in Florida.

THANK YOU!! That has been my simple solution since I began participating on this forum.  All these other gymnastics being proposed have their own set of unintended consequences.  I have no beef against privates, but they operate under a different set of rules, thus should play in their own league.

    1. Why have districts if you are not mandated to play against all your district rivals?
    2. Why not just have regions instead with a mandate that a team must play a minimum of say, 5 teams in your region?
    3. Since the district championship is going to be determined by a game between the two highest ranked teams based on some kind of power ranking, it's imperative that the formula to come up with the ranking makes sense from a statistical standpoint, and that it's made public to ensure that there is no controversy over the district winner.
    4. I know it's early yet, and nothing has been finalized, but I can't help but think that this is only going to further complicate the entire process surrounding how high school football is administered in the state and is likely to lead to many controversial results.
