I watched the finals from my in-laws house while we are in East TN for the holidays. I'd like to fly back home next year for the finals and then fly back up. I had hoped to go to some playoff games here and in Virginia while we were here, but it's been colder than crap. After 6 years in southern Florida, I can't handle the cold anymore.

I do think Lake Mary has a shot at Venice. Much of what Venice does offensively is based around forcing screw-ups (jumping offsides; not getting lined up properly; getting caught in bad coverages etc) by the defense. Lake Mary aren't world-beaters athletically on defense, but if they can avoid giving up the cheap yards, they can fare no worse than more athletic, but less disciplined, defenses. I can imagine LM winning a 42-38 type game, should the matchup happen.

That's a good point. When we saw them play Miami NW, I couldn't tell you how many substitution infractions and offsides penalties that the Bulls had.

  3. I've seen both play, and it was a common opponent in Miami NW. I'll go with Venice by 3+ scores. Their defense is suspect, but their offense is spectacular. You'll enjoy going to a game at Venice. Nice stadium with plenty of seating, and good concessions, or plenty of dining options if you want to eat at a restaurant before the game.

  4. I saw NW twice three times this year, at Coconut Creek, at Venice and at Traz Powell against Columbus. I love watching them play, but if they broke the rules, then there should be consequences. That said, I hope it gets sorted out and they can advance.

In regards to JC yea I see I got them mixed up with another John Carrol but being that you’ve seen them a few times this year, would you say their strength is on the offensive end or defensive end, or were the teams they played were just terrible so they looked good doing everything ?

I’ve looked at their schedule a few times & the best team record wise they’ve played was Jensen beach which is (7-3). Idk kangthing about Jensen beach or how good or mediocre they’re but with JC I seen even when they played teams with 5-5 records or below like Westwood, centennial & etc they gave up 20 or more points even in the win.

so hopefully our defense can dominate on Friday because I do believe we’re gonna be the best and most physical defense they’ve seen all year so far.

Their strength is definitely on the offensive side. They have a good RB who is over 1K yards on the year. The QB is a tall kid, probably around 6'3 and mobile. He has three decent WR in #1, #5 & #23 who do a good job of tracking deep balls and making catches across the middle. Defensively, they tackle well and will play hard. I only saw them twice. Against Westwood in the game that was postponed late third quarter because of what turned out to be a false gunfire threat, they had to hang on at the end for a 28-22 win. Jensen was the best team (record wise, anyway) they played. The final was 35-27, but the game really wasn't that close as we left when it was 35-13 in the 4th and Jensen scored a couple of late touchdowns. Jensen finished 7-3, but will get hammered by American Heritage.

Again, Carroll is a scrappy bunch that is well coached and will play hard, but I can't see them hanging with Dillard's athletes who have played a much tougher schedule, but that's not saying that Dillard should take them lightly.

Oh wow , thanks for the insight I would’ve never known. When I looked them up the school looked big & nice. And from what I hear from a few people up that way they say JC has a huge following, and on game days the entire city shuts down to come support, even getting support from neighboring high schools when they themselves don’t have games.

add them being (10-0) i thought they were a dominant football program. I’ve never heard of them but I do know they were in the state semis last year. Idk if that’s because they were on the rural side of things during the whole metro rural fiasco but either way I look forward to Friday night.

You've confused them with someone else. John Carroll was 3-7 last year. They were 10-2 the year before, but lost several guys to Vero, including 4 star OT Champ Smith and 4 star LB TJ Alford. Carroll is scrappy, well coached, has a decent QB and a few skill people. They also have a 3 star sophomore OT, but they shouldn't pose any threat for Dillard. I don't know if you planned on eating supper before the game, and don't know what type of food you like, but I recommend...hope you enjoy your trip to The Fort. We still haven't decided where we're going yet, but it could be here. Also looking at Vero v Lake Nona, Treasure Coast at Jupiter, Lakewood at Glades Central or Chipley at Pahokee.

https://www.facebook.com/NuNuSoulFoodTruck/ They are now a sit down restaurant, and excellent. It's also not far from John Carroll.

https://cwkinfolk.com/ My friend Willie Roundtree's place. It's on Indrio Rd, but well worth the 10 extra miles.

https://2ndstreetbistro.com/ Bigger variety of food with lots of outdoor seating in the historic downtown.

    https://tacodive.com/locations/fort-pierce-downtown/ Excellent tacos

  7. Some advice for Dillard fans coming to the game. JCC's visitor stands are terrible, and about the only way you'll be able to see is to get on the top row and stand. Either that, or sit on the home side. We usually stand in the end zone fence when we go to a game here. The visitor side stands here, and at Cardinal Newman are the two worst visitor side stands I've seen of all the places in Florida that we've been to.

  8. I've seen Carroll a couple of times this year. The first time they were taken to the game's final play by Westwood, then they laid it on a pedestrian Jensen Beach team. They do have some decent skill people and a QB who can get the football to them, but I don't see them being able to hang with Dillard for more than a half. As someone else pointed out, they are well coached by Micky Groody, who always has a scrappy bunch.

  9. We had a blast last night, and my hat is off to both teams and all the fans. This was our first Muck Bowl and hopefully it'll be a staple on our schedule. The only thing I'd do different is skip eating at a restaurant, bring a couple of lawn chairs and have our own tailgate with some food off those food trucks and just sit back and enjoy people watching. The crowd and atmosphere was like a trip in time to my old Virginia home town when we would play our biggest rival who was only 3 miles up the road from us. Both towns combined had about 5K or so people, but there were some crowds for that game that exceeded 7K when they were both unbeaten. My thanks to both of these fan bases for giving me that feeling again.

  10. I'm betting this game will rekindle the memories of my old high school and their biggest rival back in Virginia. The towns were 2 miles apart, and had 14 state titles (we had 8) between them. It was always the last game of the season and the crowds were always in the 5-7K range. Not bad for 2 towns with a combined population or around 5K. Those schools were consolidated back in 2010. They've never won another state title, but everyone pulled together well and they have been in several state semifinal games in that span. Really looking forward to seeing these guys go at it on Friday. BTW, we usually eat at Dixie or Hook when we go to Pahokee or Belle Glade. Any other good recommendations?

  11. ....any idea when the tickets will be available, and if I can get tickets what time do we need to get there? The last two times I've tried to go, the ticket site said there were no more tickets available. We watched King's Academy at Glad Central on Thursday and they had a nice crowd, but I'm guessing the Muck Bowl will be on another level from any game we've been to in the six years we've been down here in terms of atmosphere.

  12. We made the trip down from Fort Pierce to this one. It went smoothly until we hit Broward, and then it was a white knuckle ride from there as the rush hour(s) traffic started to pick up. We ate at Havana Harry's in Coral Gables. I highly recommend this place, but the parking is a little tight (I was driving a RAM 1500) and the portions are ENORMOUS. After supper, it took us about 45 minutes to travel the 14 miles to Traz Powell. That's a nice facility. Good game, but the wind was crazy and played havoc with the passing and kicking games for both teams. Columbus missed an early opportunity with a deep pass that the WR dropped, but NW had the better team. They are big, physical and have plenty of speed. They put a little freshman in at RB named Deuante Gatlin who only got 2 or 3 carries, but he looks so explosive. Anyway, we had a great time and I liked listening to the old timer NW fans discussions during the game. We'll definitely make another trip for a game there.

We wound up getting a room in Kendall because my night vision isn't what it used to be, and we had breakfast the next morning at a solid no frills Cuban cafe called Munchies, and then grabbed some churros to take back home at Pinecrest Bakery. Those things hit the spot for a Friday night postgame snack after watching Westwood v Inlet Grove.

He was, he had his non throwing shoulder iced for the entire 4th quarter, Vero is not playing this week or next, so he’ll have time to heal before they play Treasure Coast on 10/25.

They won't need him to beat Treasure Coast. TC will be lucky to dent the scoreboard. ...

Vero Beach at Rockledge is cancelled

Was Monds hurt at the end of the BTW game? I didn't see him get hurt, but the backup QB was in for the last series or two.

Here’s an example that might help MY HUDDLE brothers understand “our game” (Broward county) , that we’ve waited for a long time, being played outta county: Next year we’ll host the Miami Central vs NW game at Lockhart Stadium in Broward County! Ya wanna hear some NOISE! Lol

I’m thinking the main concern is fan capacity. STA used to bring in portable bleachers in the playoffs. Chaminade coulda done the same thing. Switch the game to Aquinas! You think the same amount of Lion fans wouldn’t make the 20 minute drive? Plus it would be in central Broward county. There might b a more diabolical reason: It’s been put out there that the state championships for 1a-7a are going to be at FIU stadium. Is this a trial run?
Regardless, it’s still wrong for the fans of Broward County & that seems to be the last thought in this decision……

Just don't play it at Coconut Creek. We've been there twice this year, and both times the scoreboard was on the fritz. The first time (for the double header) they brought in a portable which was better than nothing. Last Saturday the PA system wasn't working and the sprinkler system came on, soaking some (us included) fans as they were walking out.

I don’t have answers to your 2 questions. I do have a couple of my own: 1) how far are you driving to attend this game.
    2) why this game? I mean you never know BUT this might be over by the half. (Just curious).

Driving from Fort Pierce. Our only other option is Port St Lucie v Tradition Prep. As bad as PSL is, they will beat Tradition by 30. It's about a 2 hour (depending on traffic, of course) drive for us to Tropical Park, but we drove over to Venice earlier this year for a game. We've been to games in the state from Matanzas to Dade county over the years, and all around the southeast before retiring here. It's been a bit of a hobby for us, I suppose. Just this week, we were at Pahokee on Monday night, hope to be at Tropical Park tonight, BT Washington at Vero tomorrow night and Chaminade @ Monarch in Coconut Creek on Saturday night.
