  1. As a booster/parent I want the best coach available and let's do whatever it takes to get him. He must have a commitment to winning and be willing to accept that anything short of a championship is a failure.  I realize this is a little unreasonable but it is the expectation.

As a coach I think long and hard before taking a job at a school with unreasonable expectations and look inward to see if I have broad enough shoulders and thick enough skin to handle it.

  2. I think what they have done is basically gone back to playing in a district.  I don't see an issue with it. Scheduling has been an issue for these schools and if this is an opportunity to have meaningful games in the regular season it can only better prepare them for FHSAA playoffs. As for criticizing these teams for not being able to beat Madison the last couple of years let us then also throw shade at all the other teams Madco has beaten outside of the 1A championship game.

  3. This terrible tragedy has been such a shock to our area.  Corey was a devoted father, husband , and coach.  He died horrifically in front of his wife, children, and team. His wife died trying to save him, his son chase is now fighting for his life.  Corey was from Wakulla County he coached in Liberty County, and worked many years in Gulf and Franklin counties.  Please keep the family and team in your prayers.

This year, PSJ  is traveling 75-100 miles each way to play 3 Class  4A schools and 100 miles each way to play a 2A school.  In the meantime, Franklin County, Blountstown and Liberty County, all 1A schools within the same region and 30-50 miles away, are not on the schedule.  Franklin County and Liberty County are both playing 4A North Bay Haven Academy. In fact, North Bay Haven is playing 6 Class 1A schools this year.

An irony is that Franklin County likely drives right through Port St Joe and then has to travel another 40 miles to get to North Bay Haven.   ...just as PSJ likely drives past Blountstown and Liberty County on its way north to play 4A Marianna.  PSJ last played LIberty in 2012 and Franklin in 2014.

I don't mean this to sound critical of anyone because I don't know the facts.  Am just pointing out that from an "outsider" perspective, the above scenario is a bit perplexing, especially with all the talk today of excessive travel times and expense.  ,Based on what s1nglewing stated, it appears that 1A was at least in part a workaround to avoid certain schools.

PSJ and Blountstown play every year the game this year was scheduled for two weeks ago.  St Joe and Liberty were district foes for years and last played in 2014 with liberty winning the regular season matchup

  5. I know PSJ would love to play more 1A schools but can't get games I imagine Madco has the same issue.  Luckily for St Joe we are in an area where the 4A and 5A are pathetic. St Joe would not be able to compete with true 4A playoff teams year in and year out. As far as why the other 1A teams will play Blountstown and not PSJ i dont know. Baker gets lots of 1A games but they pay extremely well.

  6. I've been back in apalachicola for for two days now it's bad but nothing compared to st Joe.  My son and many other psj kids go to Troy University they were allowed to go home and help.  You have to keep working and focus on the task at hand because if you ever stop to just look at everything you will lose it. This is soul crushing.

Have you had to ride out a hurricane before?

    Update on Michael.

    Panama City  major damage.

Mexico Beach- almost completely wiped out.

    PSJ- 75 percent destroyed

Franklin County- Apalachicola extremely bad, St George Island and East Point major devastation.

Pray for our area.  I evacuated but hundreds stayed and many have not been heard from. i fear the loss of life is going to be very high.

  8. Port St Joe vs S.Walton cancelled.  Haven't heard any others yet but would imagine Franklin and Wakulla will cancel their games.  The last track I saw was between St Joe and Apalachicola taking a direct hit.  PSJ High is very low and Franklin County High is a couple hundred yards from the bay. If it hit where they are predicting at the intensity they say look for major devastation in Gulf, Franklin, and Wakulla counties.
