That quiet sums is up Dan and you guys might play a Dade County team 1st rd

Zoe, you're right with the new regional seeding now in place. My crystal ball says Mainland beats MC, MNW, and CC on consecutive weeks. Then beats Norland in the semi's , but loses to Columbia in the final :)

  2. Mainland  33 Spruce Creek 7....young,fast,athletic.....reload...Dade county or bust...

    Lake Mary 56  Hagerty  21

    Lyman  45  Oviedo  21

Lake Howell  56  Lake Brantley  21

    Sanford  48  Winter Springs  14

Flagler Palm Coast 27  Seabreeze  6

    NSB  21  Deland  0

    Deltona  31  Orlando 1st Academy 29

I will give you my take on Lingard after the Spring game with Apopka. Our defensive line looked pretty good in the blue and white game last night, so if he runs wild he will deserve a lot of credit.

Regarding Barnes, he has always been highly rated and has done well at camps. My own bias is towards Ed Monthelus, though. However, Barnes is a fine offensive lineman.

Darter, here's my take on Lingard. Nice size, excellent "Track" speed, but not very elusive or powerful for his size. Athletic defenses can shut him down. Maybe Orange City had a poor O-line ? Saw him 2yrs in scrimmage games against Mainland. He was a non factor...As a track hurdler, he is one of the best in the state. Strong, powerful, and fast.

  4. I know lol. I just thought it was a good time to throw that out there! On a serious note Chaminade is doing work, and Edison? Brings me back to 2003.

The Edison euphoria, beating STA, was short-lived. The next week they were destroyed by Naples 41-0. Who in turn lost the following week to an even better team. Shameless "homer" plug :) Back to the 2017 Transfers....
  5. It's a crime not to have a home field to play on after all these years. So where too point the finger. Not necessarily in order of accountability, but let's start with the local school board, county, city, business leaders, school administrators, fans, and parents. No one is claiming that Orange City is Palm Beach North because it is far from it. But come on folks. Many Florida teams don't have on campus lights and still play games on Friday and Saturday afternoons. Where's the damn leadership, passion, resolve, and outrage to end this wrong....

  6. Figure I got a ways to go. Hope to make 90 before I sign off!

You know Darter the last couple times we've hooked up for lunch your menu choices were by far healthier then my burger, fries, and chicken wing gluttony affairs. You might make 90+. Myself, not probable... Miss is that my Philly Cheese Steak ?

  7. Really? That schedule sucks.

I respect Naples and Coach Kramer a lot but that just speaks to the weakness of SWFL.

Damn 'canes, you're merciless. Any chance you were a hardcore Marine drill sergeant in your previous life ? No doubt, not the typical lefty treehugger, but more along the line of John Brown.... unbridled passion with murderous conviction. Signed, #apeacefullliberal:)
  8. I have all 6 state championship wins. The end of '06 is really the only one that has much tension. '86 was close, but not a great game. The others were really not that close. Probably the best games I have are the '96 semi-final vs. Rutherford and the '06 Semi-final vs. Mainland. Those were great games.

Yes, that '06 semi was painful. Everytime the Bucs got back in it Cris Rainey took it to the house...Damn! But in all truth it's the '04 semi that still hurts the most. Our senior QB got knocked out early and we had no backup. Went to a wildcat formation using a wide receiver with ZERO game reps the entire season. Was still a 7-7 tie at the end of the third quarter. Lakeland was young that year. We were loaded with D-1's. Oh well.... sniffle, sniffle

  9. What i saw was as long as everyone follows their assignments and doesn't get confused by the motion and stuff they do it not that hard to stop

And i was hoping for mainland vs Columbia as soon as other game fell through

I agree with your assessment on how to slow down the Apopka running game. It takes disciplined athletes who know their responsibilities. The Mainland defense is always overly aggressive. They all want to be in on every tackle. Trickery and misdirection can take advantage of this tendency. Athletic teams that play Apopka on a yearly basis (DP, Osc-Kiss) do a better job at containing their powerful run game. They are used to seeing it, others aren't...... Mainland should play in the north. Any student of geography can see that. Lake City, among others would be good competition. Maybe someday soon that may happen. Chicken wings on me when it does....go Tigers
  10. I think what some people, from large metropolitan areas in particular, fail to understand is just because a team doesn't have multiple state championships that they aren't worthy of respect for what they have accomplished over a long period of time. Florida has the third largest population in the country and within its borders contains over 600 high schools with a football team. To say that only the 5-8 state champions in any given year are the only teams relevant is dead wrong. Most of us on these Florida message boards could give a $hit how our state teams are perceived on a national level. With more then 10,000 schools it's all BS anyway, opinions supported by more opinions. Lake City, like Mainland and St Augustine only have one title each in their entire history's. But in D-1 talent rich Florida they have been in the top 10% of all state teams (top 60 out of 600) for more then 20 yrs (IMO). How can one honestly disparage, insult, and degrade any successful high schools like these or any number of others I can't think of at this late hour. The current American mentality that there's only one winner and everybody else is a loser is for...well loser's.

  11. I was in 9th grade in 1988 when we played them in the state title game.  Matt Fryer was on that team and had set a state record for most yards receiving.  The game was close for a half.  I remember that before the game hearing rumors about stuff that Live Oak was doing and getting away with.  It believe it was 1990, after their 4th championship that the school had to forfeit 4 games and coach Pittman resigned in disgrace, although they were allowed to keep their state title. I know they use to play Lakeland back then too.

Don't remember what year it was in the championship streak, but Matt Fryer was one hell of a receiver and made a few acrobatic catches to lead them to victory in Daytona. Live Oak brought a large crowd for that afternoon game.

  12. This new regional wild card thing

Which team out of region 4 gets most likely left out if those 3 all make playoffs

BoHigh, not sure if it will ever happen but I was under the assumption that 4 teams from the same district could go to the playoffs. If true it would probably cause much bitching across the whole state.
