  1. Thanks
Nulli Secundus got a reaction from Ray Icaza in One Class, One Title, One undisputed FHSAA champion
That should've been done decades ago and factored into operational expenses as a write-off anyway outside of the typical grants.  Closed mouths don't get fed, lol.  Aren't the Rays trying to get a new stadium now?  Guess where that money is coming from, lol.  The standard cost of doing business in the state of Florida for ALL professional teams should be to supplement high school athletic initiatives in perpetuity.

Any change would likely originate from the Football Advisory Committee, which holds its annual meeting on January 12.  I'm sure  they would welcome any creative/progressive/innovative suggestions from the general public.

I like the crisscrossing. Sorry your school can't afford it......wash some more cars. Also that Miami Central could play Miami Northwestern in the final. Or any number of neighboring powerhouses from the same area. ....SB ?

Legitimate seeding is mostly found in pro sports and is based solely on records and nothing else. It’s not a group of nerds getting together to decide who should be ranked higher than somebody else. In the NCAA it’s necessary for basketball because there are so many teams. In college football it’s subjective nonsense based on trying to get the most attractive TV matchups. In high school it’s not a very good idea.  Best ways is for a District champ and District runner-up to qualify and then you move up and down the bracket. The same applies to everyone and can change year to year. If a great team has to go on the road to beat a mediocre team so be it.
    Again, my opinion.

Nulli, lets see how delicate I can put this and not run afoul of Josh's heavy hand. It appears most of Polk's success is after Florida's integration of the races in 1970. Also lets give coach Bill Castle a shout out for laying the ground work and showing/teaching followers how it is done. If I'm not mistaken H.O.F. Coach Rick Darlington falls into this group. Much like Brevard's county's coach Gerald (Jerry) Odom and his followers/students/ball players. My wife has family in Plant City. I've been there, seen the strawberries, and seen a little of the mining operations. Throw in a few cows and horses and I've haven't seen much more "industry".  What "BROUGHT"  in the large group of African-Americans that to this day keeps rural Polk County with an endless supply of D-1 athletes. What's over there ?  It can't be the water, Pasco county and Zephyrhills got that.

Wow Ray we agreed on something!
In all honesty good call, Venice thought a "6 man front" would be what the doctor ordered for stopping the Lakeland offense and it actually played into the Dreadnaughts hands.
Bill Castle power football was still able to run the Indians into the ground and they apparently forgot about the Lakeland WRs who stole their cookies back in May.
Your Kowboys were able to shut down the Naughts passing game and Venice thought they would be able to do the same. It really exposed a bad game plan by Peacock and staff.

I love the idea. Texas does something similar at their top classes but they determine it by enrollment after they finish in the district race.

I believe they still do it. They take the top 4 teams in the district and send the 2 with the largest enrollments to the Division 1 bracket and the 2 smallest enrollments to the D2 one.

So the idea is similar. And I think it’s a great idea. Some teams might intentionally lose the district so they can play in the bush leagues. Lol.

I would rather see something like this in the individual sports first (golf, weightlifting, track, tennis, wrestling) and then to other team sports and then football.

As for FHSAA $$$ concerns, the FHSAA budget was 6.6 million. I am surprised that the 3 NFL teams, the 2 NBA teams, 2 MLB teams, and 2 MLS teams don't get together and say, we got this for you as you provide our future fans and athletes. Or that state legislators don't fund it since they want to run it anyway.

Apologies in advance for the long post.  Since this is the season for unrealistic FHSAA expectations that will never come to frutition @nolebull813   @gatorman-uf (and everyone else that thinks outside the box, lol) here's my shot.
A redesigned playoff format for the 24-25 season would be installed where the overall goal would be to truly make every game count to determine playoff teams.  For example, all schools would play 7-8 (some 6, some 9) district opponents to decide the overall district champs and a berth to participate in the Champion of Champions tournament.  Fear not.  For those that believe that not enough team makes the playoffs, the runner-ups can also play in a different playoff bracket so that each district receives two representatives for the playoffs.
FHSAA Champion of Champions Tournament - 64 teams (6 Rds)
The Champions bracket would consist of only the district champions representing the 64 districts.
FHSAA Runner Up Games (R.U.G.) - 64 teams (6 Rds)
The Runner-up bracket would consist of district runner-ups representing the 64 districts.  This bracket would allow teams that almost won their respective districts a chance to continue post season play for a chance at 3rd/4th place in the state.
Based on the numbers, the FHSAA could allow the top 5-7 teams from each district to enter the playoffs in different brackets based on their district rankings.
District Champs - Top playoff bracket, district winners only Runner up -  playoff bracket for 2nd place (runner-up) teams 3rd -  playoff bracket for 3rd place teams
    ---------------------------------------------------------- 4th -  playoff bracket for 4th place teams........O_K 5th -  playoff bracket for 5th place teams........V_ I 6th -  playoff bracket for 6th place teams........E_ L 7th -  playoff bracket for 7th place teams........R_ L However, beyond a certain level (top 3) I believe it's overkill and turns into a participation contest at that point.

So I will continue to beat the drum for promotion and relegation, simply as a way to increase participation in the sport. Nobody (good teams or bad) want to play teams that they are overmatched with. My belief is that a promotion and relegation system allows recently good teams to play other recently good teams in the regular season and recently bad teams to play recently bad teams. Thus encouraging competitive games, rather than blowouts.

No, it doesn't solve the transfer issue, but unless the state legislature changes, that issue isn't going to stop. Additionally, I think the expectation of being able to transfer for any reason has made it's way to the college level (transfer portal), so high schools on some level are just mirroring that (for better or worse). Sadly, I don't think we are ever going back to the days of transfers sitting out for a year.

Do I think it will make the transfer issue worse? It might, but as a coach, I would be more frustrated losing a player to a school in my classification than losing that player to a "better" school where I will most likely never play that player again. I just think the sting will hurt less (not that it won't exist).
    ______________________
    So my basic premise:
1A stays as is, mostly because it has proven highly success for those schools.
If you have not had a football program since 2018, you start at the lowest level (no matter the size of your school).
This leaves 449 schools to play in my 6 classifications. Classification 2A and 3A will NOT play to a state championship, but only to a Northern/Southern championship, so that nobody accuses them of winning a state championship equal to that of the top classifications.
7A - 32 Schools (All teams make playoffs, required to play 7 other 7A schools)
6A - 32 Schools (All teams make playoffs, required to play 7 other 6A schools)
5A - 64 Schools (8 districts, 8 teams per district, top 4 district records make playoffs (similar to Georgia)
4A - 64 Schools (8 districts, 8 teams per district, top 4 district records make playoffs (similar to Georgia)
3A - 128 Schools (16 districts, 8 teams per district, top 2 district records make playoffs (similar to old system)
2A - 129 Schools (16 districts, 8 teams per district, top 2 district records make playoffs (similar to old system)
    1A - Same as Previous
Classifications are based on the average 2018, 2019, 2021, and 2022 MaxPreps ratings (I did not use 2020 due to pandemic weirdness)

I think the issue is you shouldn’t be playing varsity football if you are losing by 70-100 points. Obviously it’s not for you. JV or 6/7/8 man football seems more appropriate.

Ask yourself what can you do in society that you fail that spectacularly, and continue to go at it? That’s like getting all F’s on a report card.

i actually find it a huge waste of time when you have these teams playing 11 man varsity football that look so incompetent it actually looks disrespectful to the game. It makes the game worse. You should have to be able to at least do your job at the most basic level to remain employed.

Here’s my story. My kids go to a small K-8 school. All the sports are 5th-8th coed. I coach the track and flag football teams.
So this year we went to a 7on7 flag tournament in Orlando and we’re much better than everyone. The first game we won 47-0. We were about to play a team that was so bad I actually left my 2 best players out because they were so outmanned and we still won 38-0.

These are all Christian schools and one of the refs was a pastor in Sarasota and asked my players to go easy on the team we were about the play and they looked at him sideways and said “No! We came to win!!”
We won the tournament pretty easily and after that pastor and my AD came up to me and told me we were running the score up and not playing with Christian principles. I told them how can I hold practice, teach the kids to play the right way, give 110 percent effort, correct the mistakes and get better, then come game time go pretend you are handicap because your opponent doesn’t know how to compete?

They said when you embarrass these kids they are not having any fun I said you have fun by winning! And I said when you beat these teams it actually helps them go 2 ways. Give up football because it’s obviously not for you, OR use it as motivation to get better and try your hardest to improve at the game you love.
Bottom line is I can’t handicap myself because you are incompetent

Wow that was a lot to read lol.  It's okay that we differ in opinions since a forum would be rather boring if we all had the same take.  Anyway, I'm okay with no mercy rule in the playoffs.  If you qualified for the playoffs then you should be able to defend yourself.  My point of view on this is a running clock reduces ridiculous scores like 90-0 from happening except a couple times per year.  Without a running clock, we may see many more of these unnecessary scores.  Oh well this dead horse has been beaten enough so I'm done.

This topic didn't receive much attention, but after thinking about it, this is a no-brainer.  If a combined Top 10 of 1S and 1R was compiled using the end-of-season Power Rankings, it would look like this:
    1) Hawthorne (1R)
    2) Pahokee (1R)
    3) North Florida Christian (1S)
    4) First Baptist Academy (1S)
    5) Evangelical Christian (1S)
    6) Northview (1R)
    7) Union County (1R)
    8) Chiefland (1R)
    9) Chipley (1R)
    10) Trinity Catholic (1S)
The average Power Ranking of the 25 teams in 1S is 0.427.  The average Power Ranking of the 36 teams in 1R is 0.387.  Simply put, the relative top-to-bottom strength of 1S and 1R is very similar.  Finally, it has been stated that the FHSAA cannot sanction separate public-private classifications, but 1S and 1M are essentially private classifications, and 1R is a public classification.  Combine 1S and 1R and you have a 61-team division.  One less classification (down to 8!).  This is an idea whose time has come.  Excellent call, nolebull.

I'm gonna take you on a journey back to 1989, Crystal Lake Junior High in Lakeland.  Our football team sucked.  Notoriously SUCKED!!  It was so bad, in elementary school before going to junior high, when people found out where I was going the made fun of me because of the reputation of the football team and I hadn't set foot on the campus.  I digress.  The schools were divided into east/west depending on where they were geographically, then at the end of season the top school from both east/west would meet for a county championship.

Back to the story, lol.  Of all the extra curricular activities I participated in at Crystal Lake (CLJH), football was very unpopular and often times ridiculed.  My first two years in junior high (7-8), I played basketball and was also in marching band.  To me, I could still hold my head high doing those so-to-speak but admittedly it was tough being in band at the football games watching our team, essentially our school get slaughtered.  Anyway, in my 8th grade geography class during football season, there were a few players in the class wearing their jerseys for the pep rally and subsequent game (Thursday).  I don't remember exactly how everything started but the class started ripping on the players saying things, "like you're going to, don't even bother to show up".  You know how harsh kids can be.  Yes, I'm guilty of participating.  As a matter of fact, I got the last dig in before my teacher and the football coach (Coach Chip Salerno - former LG AD) probably gave me one of the most important lessons that good educators are remembered for.  He said:
All these guys in uniform put in the work and are on the team.  What's your excuse?  I don't remember seeing you at tryouts. All these guys that put on these uniforms know what they're up against.  They're still here, fighting.  They may lose on the field but they will know how to persevere and win in life. Now, I've heard those words in different forms prior to that situation but I don't know what made that particular situation resonate and stick with me.  Maybe it was because he had me stand up before the class while he lit into me so I could truly understand how it felt.  The next year (freshmen year) I got off my ass and told my dad I was trying out for football.  He being a teacher and coach himself (P.E. at Bartow Jr, Basketball/Football at Bartow Sr) was excited and wasted no time giving me at home drills and practice (which I absolutely hated, lol) ahead of football tryouts.  Although I had been playing basketball for years through the city league, AAU and my first 2 years in junior high, this was my first time trying to play football outside of neighborhood pickup games.  He brought home pads and had me practice hitting a pad-lined pine tree in our backyard.  I felt stupid and my little sister (around 7 yrs old) said Bubby (what she used to call me), you look stupid hitting that tree .  That pissed me off even more.  I say to my dad, why am I hitting this tree because it won't move.  He said, it's not about you hitting the tree, it's about you being able to handle what it feels like when that tree doesn't give and toughen you up.
Ultimately, I tried out and I made the team.  Our team still sucked and yes we got laughed at but I wouldn't trade that season for anything.  I'll always remember the sack I got that forced a fumble recovery for a TD.  Looking back, I wish I had tried out 7th & 8th grade.  I took that short trip down memory lane to say this:
No, I don't have any feelings for the kids getting curb stomped (as you phrased it) because those kids chose to put on that uniform.  That's not heartless, that life.  I don't know what it feels like to be on the receiving end of an ass kicking from players "plundered" from my own team but I've certainly experienced many beat downs.  Again, you put in the work, you put on the uniform and based on your post, I will assume you didn't quit.  What did you learn from your experiences?  I learned that no matter what, do your best and don't give up.  You may not win all the time but you damn sure won't lose all the time.  Even if you do lose most or all of the time, you certainly learn how to keep moving forward despite the obstacles placed before you, whether just or unjust.  Yes, these are still kids.  These kids are also a stone's throw from being an adult and thrown into a world that will bend the rules, break the rules, cheat, lie, steal, kill, and destroy without batting and eye and if these kids are not mentally prepared for that NOW, chances are they're more screwed than they would be otherwise without those hard-knock lessons.  With that being said, I truly believe that a running clock does a disservice to the game in general.  If it were up to me (thank goodness it's not), I would get rid of it.  Hell, I'd be willing to even compromise to use running clock during the regular season.  However, for the playoffs, no way, no how.  If you're in the playoffs you're there for a reason.  NO MERCY.
We all have feelings and perspectives on this subject.  This is simply my take on it.  Thank you for your perspective.
