Wow. Cocoa has really fallen off after beating Mainland. Losing to IMG and Venice I kind of understand, but I expected them to destroy Norland. We will see if they can get back to winning (which they should) against teams that should be easy wins for them.Watching the game first hand. Norland did everything right and countered Cocoa's strengths and weaknesses and took advantage of all mistakes made. Cocoa played better defense in the 2nd half but the offense didn't going at all besides a couple drives.

I should’ve picked Mainland over DeLand but I wanted to wait and see Mainland get a win against an actually decent team before I started picking them. They proved me very wrong. Also, what happened to Cocoa???
Their question marks from the beginning of the season are still question marks. The Norland game is honestly the worst I've seen them play in awhile. Also the playcalling was strange. Went away from what worked, didn't make proper adjustments to the blitz or the coverage. And the future 5 star QB kept locking in on his top receiver and didn't really get comfortable. 4 turnovers and penalties didn't help either.

As you all probably know, there is another storm coming to the Florida area. I am not sure where this will go and won’t know which games will be canceled for a while. If you find out something I don’t know, could you please let me know?
It's projected to make landfall South of Tampa and cut across Florida west to east. Hillsborough schools currently closed Monday through Wednesday and looks like brevard is closed Wednesday through Thursday. I'm more inland in Plant City so currently not in the evacuation zone

Thanks a lot Cocoa smh lol what happened
They played without any intensity and Norland dominated the whole game pretty much. No key signature wins for Cocoa this season. Should win out the remaining 4 games. And have one or 2 tough games in the playoffs they'll be on the road and will most likely play at Bradford in the regional finals in another rematch

It is possible there is some gray area which might have to be addressed in the rules when it comes to kicks that barely (if ever) make it ten yards, when the kicking team uses big guys to run interference on fielders who try to come up and recover the dribbler kicks.
*I noticed Lakeland now (as of yesterday lol) puts a big guy on kickoff coverage in the same spot Venice had their big guy. We may see some copycat work on this!
Yea that's the only thing that I could see being an issue with the onside kicks. The first one was perfect even though they walled off and the second as well. The third was recovered by Cocoa.
Something could've been said by the coaching staff to have the refs look closer for when it did happen and the players could've been told to just attack the wall and the ball instead of backing up to block.
They had their chances to break it open in the first half like that pass that was barely missed getting intercepted and ended up hitting Cocoa's receiver in the face mask

1.) Are you not allowed to advance a fumble in high school? Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find an answer to this question. Dorien Jones fumbled the ball, but it was recovered by Al Oliver and taken to the endzone before the play was blown dead and an injury timeout was called. But then the officials got together to talk it over, and they were awarded the touchdown. I did think it was strange in real time, though.
2.) The tricks that Venice uses to get teams to jump offsides and create illegal substitutions aren't necessarily an indictment of the officials, but rather, Venice's coaching staff. Yes, they're cheap and very annoying, but the refs have to call them when it happens.
3.) The onside kicks were necessary given the situation. Venice was down 14 coming out of halftime and was not stopping Cocoa's offense the entire game. It looked like Cocoa was going to run away with an easy win late in the 2nd quarter. Something just had to give.
4.) I didn't see what happened in the final few seconds, so I can't comment on that. But all in all, I seriously doubt that Cocoa is losing a game from here on out.
The only thing about the fumble isn't the fact that it was recovered and advanced. It was the 2 different views i saw online from the sideline where it looked like his knees were down before the ball popped out. But again it was a judgement call and could've been a different view for the refs.
2. The offsides wasn't a major factor to me. That's on the players to watch the ball and they didn't get caught much. That was a gray area for both sides. Cause there was times where Cocoa jumped but wasn't called because they weren't touched by the Oline and moved back.
3. The onside was most definitely a game changer. The confusing part that is based on how you interpret the rules is that for the onside kicks. Venice basically walled up in front of the ball before the 10 yards interfering with advancement of trying to go after the ball. But it's just different takes I've been seeing on it. Overall great adjustment and gameplanning to keep Cocoa's offense off the field and to steal some possessions.
Cocoa will have some better competition in the regionals this year in the playoffs. They'll have to more than likely play Bradford and Berkeley Prep.

So, would anyone care to explain what *exactly* Venice's officials did wrong? The final score was 54-51. There certainly shouldn't be anything to complain about offensively. Cocoa had 14 penalties for 138 yards, while Venice nearly kept pace with that number with 12 for 104.
Penalty wise it was evenly called. To me there were plays that could've been called down or not called down. The plays I'm talking about specifically is that offensive fumble return for a touchdown. A couple plays that were called down where receivers rolled on top of the defenders but was called down. Yes they ended up scoring a few plays later but the major difference with those calls would be the amount of time that would've been on the clock.
People have been talking about the last few seconds of the game but I didn't really pay attention to that honestly.
The gray area for me was the onside kicks but that's all depends on how the rule is interpreted. I just thought the discussions on those were interesting lol.
At the end of the day it was a great game either way and very entertaining. Wasn't nothing like the STA game so it's pretty hilarious seeing journalists putting out clickbait on in Twitter comparing the officiating to the STA game

Any chance they use the St Thomas Aquinas reffing crew to give them that 4 second end of game field goal try? LOL/JK...
I've heard some things from coaches who played against Venice at Venice about the ref crew they usually always use. There's no proof that I can gather so I can't say either way lol. But looking back at some plays at different angles......there ended up being more questionable happenings than what I saw live at the game. And some of them were key momentum changers

I think this also brings to question , just how good is MNW? Because just like last night , Miami norland only score 6 offensive points last week, while also holding MNW to 17 points , while chaminade just put up 45
I'm interested to see how Norland does at Cocoa in 2 weeks

Lots of teams every year put up points against bad teams
St Augustine is a great example so far and nease will be the first good team they have played all season but everyone seems convinced they are a top 25 team
That's true. But Port Charlotte does play First Baptist tomorrow and Naples in a couple weeks so we'll see

Well Port Charlotte had scored over 50 in all 3 of the games this season prior to Venice so it's not like they aren't a strong offense themselves
But look at the teams they've put those points up against besides Venice
-
6 hours ago, SportsFan said:
Absolutely but the teams they are playing are also really good offensively
If they were playing keystone heights or palatka next up like some schools I doubt they would be giving up loads of points but Cocoa is another good offense so it will be another high scoring game
The shocker for me was that Port Charlotte score. I honestly don't believe Port Charlotte should've scored that much on Venice

Palm Beach Central, SR, Waden Charles (Arkansas commit) transfers to Somerset Canyons this week. Will he be eligible to play the remainder of the season? Moore Haven had a QB transfer after week 3, a few seasons ago and was allowed to play. Is this a new thing now, because I dont think this has ever happened in Palm Beach County
I want to say it's a certain number of weeks into the season. It's new to me honestly because Rockledge had a player transfer to Sebastian River after the KOC and he was able to play the full season

I'll make my official predictions later in the week. But Cocoa vs IMG will have my full attention. Cocoa has averaged 46.5 PPG in their two wins vs Titusville and Mainland, (47 if you round up.) Meanwhile, IMG has averaged 31.5 PPG between their loss to Corner Canyon and win over Bergen Catholic. It suggests that Cocoa should defeat IMG by a final score of 47-32. But the silver lining that could prevent a shootout is the simple fact that IMG doesn't pass very much. As usual, the issue with preparing for IMG isn't that their offense is so complex that you can't prepare for all possibilities. It's that they are so physically overwhelming that unless you have athletes of similar caliber, you cannot compete regardless of how meticulous and well-constructed your gameplan is.
Cocoa will have to score about 35 points to win this game. IMG will plan to slow the game down and limit possessions to keep Cocoa's high-octane offense off the field. Cocoa probably wants to stop the run first and make IMG beat them by passing. That sounds like a winning formula. Offensively, take what the defense gives you on every play and move at your own pace. No penalties or silly mistakes; those will kill you against a team like IMG. Cocoa is in a great position to win and potentially have a chance at the national championship if they win out; they need to pounce on it, and I think they get it done. Cocoa 35, IMG 24. How do you Cocoa guys feel? @Cat_Scratch2 @KeemD321 @Cocoafanone @Cat_Scratch @imjustafan2 @LetsGo
If Cocoa can start out fast offensively then they can definitely put up the points to force IMG to battle from behind. The defense will have to come up with some key stops and make adjustments at the half. It'll come down to the line play

I still think Venice is way overrated. Yes, they've put up a lot of points. But, there's nothing impressive about the way they abuse silly rules and cheap tricks to get them. MNW got caught in substitution problems all night long due to games around tempo and subbing, racking up a lot of illegal substitution and 12 men on the field penalties. And of course Venice has always abused the f*ck out of the stupid high school offsides rule, which allows for a QB in the shotgun formation to f*ck around and get a DL to stick his fingernail in the neutral zone for half a second-ball not snapped and no contact made- and get 5 yards for free. If you took all the cheap penalties away, Venice would struggle to score against good defenses.
The benefits of them playing at home and the refs being use to their tempo. Hopefully Cocoa will stay disciplined and don't let anything get them off their game. There will be alot of points on the offensive side but I don't see Venice running all over Cocoa the way they did MNW. Especially if they differ to the wildcat with W.Watkins, could turn into a long night for them as long as the penalties are low. They will for sure get a couple chunk plays but it seems like the defense is getting in their groove each game. As long as everyone stays healthy leading up to it I can see Cocoa winning by the same score as last season or maybe an extra score. Worst case scenario it'll end the same way as the STA game but they will seal the deal completely

Oh yea coming into the season their weakness was their trenches on both sides since they lost everyone besides one player on both sides of the line. Cocoa's QB has always had that tendency to lock onto Boggs but he still makes plays on the ball regardless. Yes they doubled him but he still makes plays doubled team. QB just rarely looked to his other receivers that game and Norland schemes their defense perfectly being aggressive with the blitz and disguising the coverage.
Throughout the game he had other receivers wide open but didn't really have the time or was too focused on Boggs
