Jambun82 got a reaction from Perspective in Flagler Palm Coast at Apopka
Perespective, I don't know if the regular season officials are being too lenient. It is just that the officials who see teams like Apopka, who run unconventional offenses might allow things that are by defintion fouls, but might not get called penalties because they have little to no effect on the play. However, once the playoffs start, officials are officiating teams who they are not familar with, and in and one loss and done circumstance. These type of fouls become penalties because they are violations of the rules.
The answer to the second question is that generally speaking, officials do NOT study film on teams who they will be officiating coming up. Officials might discuss with the local officials about certain teams, and styles of play however.

Good point. It was easier to line up a bowl game under the old playoff system, when teams knew before the last week of the regular season whether or not they made the playoffs.

All right, so you are not the coach that I was thinking about. Now I have to thank of coaches in the Central Florida area who have no respect for officials, and treated them accordingly. I know that you are one of them. I just have to figure out which one.

If this coach is indeed Hurlie Brown, the school that he coaches at is Merritt Island. Hurlie Brown also played in the CFL.

It is not very clearly defined. The referee ultimately has final say regarding any situation not covered in the rule book in the spirit of good sportsmanship.

Jambun82 got a reaction from DisabledAccount in FHSAA out of control
It has to do with a respectful discussion that I am having with some other posters to this message board, some of them I believe to be coaches, about coaches being suspended, and how I believe that coaches should set the proper example for the young people in their care. I have found that when coaches are respectful, their players are as well, if coaches are not respectful, their players are usually not as well. That was my point. It has everything to do with high school football with a greater emphasis on the wider society as a whole.

The consequences of cursing should be and is relaxed as long as it is NOT directed towards officials or the other team's players/coaches.

Jambun82 got a reaction from skyway in You make the Call
Badbird, I am sorry that you feel that way. I take pride in what I do, and I would never ask you to criticize another football coach's decisions. I wonder if there is ever any way that you and I can sit down man-to-man in person, and have a discussion. There are many topics that I would love to discuss with you, that I am just not comfortable talking about on this message board. I have a lot of respect for many High School Coaches in the state, and when I was in college, I wanted to become a High School Football Coach. It is obvious from your posts, that you took a lot of pride, in being the best coach that you could be, and I am sure that you cared greatly about the children in your care.

Jambun82 got a reaction from skyway in You make the Call
Skyway, I don't feel comfortable commentating about a foul called by an official on this message board. Also, I do NOT want to be compared to a police apologist. I believe that all public servants, teachers, police, politicians, government workers, anybody who collects a taxpayer-funded check is accountable, and has to answer to the public. You and I might not belong to the same political party, but you will find that I would agree with you on unarmed civilians being shot and possibly killed. I am often just appalled by these actions by police as many so called "liberals."

The Hastings Spudsters? I heard that they used to really "potato" the competition.

Cat Scratch, you graduated from Rockledge, but now root for Cocoa? Isn't that against some unwritten rule? lol

Jambun82 got a reaction from Perspective in Clock Question
Perspective, the referee just has to use his/her best judgment. It is usually very obvious anyway, when a team is attempting to consume or conserve time. I could count the number of times on one hand that the referee has had to actually enforce this rule, it is very rare. A big part of being a game official is using the best judgment, and trying to apply common-sense, logical reasoning to any decision. I am sure that your father, the basketball official, would agree.

Jambun82 got a reaction from skyway in Centennial coaches embarrass their program @Lakeland
That was certainly unsportsmanlike conduct by that Centennial Coach. Once again, how can the high school children be expected to act in a civil matter when the "adult" coaches cannot?

Hwy17, if a pass interference foul is away from the play, it might be a personal foul but is usually not pass interference. Again, it depends on the judgment of the official.

Purple and Gold Tiger Stripes man, I would agree with your statement. The non-player safety foul away from the point-of-attack would not be ignored, but that foul would probably not be penalized either. Possibly, a warning to the player committing the foul to be careful.

Hwy17, uncatchable is NOT a factor when determining a pass-interference foul in NFHS rules.
