  1. Osceola travels to Bryant Stadium to take on the Dreadnaughts in what has been an underrated rivalry over the last 24 years. In 1998, the two teams appeared to be on a collision course to meet for an epic match up for the 5A title. Both were dominating their opponents all season, and both ended up in the state semifinals after Lakeland traveled to Fort Lauderdale and knocked off defending champ STA. But, Lakeland was upset by Estero by one point, and that cleared the way for Osceola's state title. In 1999, the two again appeared headed for a colossal tilt, but Osceola was upset by Rutherford by one point, clearing the way for Lakeland's third state title. In 2000, the teams played in a spring game at Kissimmee, with the Dreadnaughts winning 35-21. In 2005, Lakeland beat Osceola 56-0 on live statewide TV. In 2006, national #1 Lakeland was very nearly upset. The 'Naughts trailed 3-0 in the 4th, before Chris Rainey broke a long TD run to win it, 7-3. The 2007 season saw Lakeland take a state record winning streak into the middle of the season. Osceola came to Bryant Stadium and broke the streak and the hearts of the Dreadnaughts, 25-22. The Kowboys beat Lakeland a second time, more decisively in Kissimmee en route to a state title game appearance. Osceola eventually lost starting QB and safety T'Sharvan Bell (hope my memory held up on the spelling) before the state title game loss to STA. In 2008, Lakeland returned the favor, with two wins in tight games. Once again in 2009, Lakeland beat Osceola twice more. Lakeland got single wins in both 2010 and 2011. Osceola knocked Lakeland out of the playoffs each of the next three seasons (ouch!). The last match up with the teams was in 2019's Kickoff Classic. Ja'randy Swint scored three TDs for Osceola...in garbage time after Lakeland led 43-0.

This season, it seems Osceola may be underrated. Their 2022 games played include a near draw with Edgewater in the spring game, a nine-point win over a good Treasure Coast team, and a one-point OT loss to what may be an underrated Seminole team. (Seminole appears better than 2021, when they lost a last-second game to Chaminade.) Osceola appears to be much better on defense than on offense. But, the Kowboys have a large OL, and an emerging mega-recruit in RB Taevion Swint (I assume brother of Ja'Randy). Through two games, they've completed an aggregate of 9 out of 21 passes, for 91 yards. Defensively, the Kowboys have two monsters on the DL in John Walker and Derrick Leblanc. They also have speed and major recruits throughout the rest of the defense, with cornerback likely being the strength of the back seven.

Lakeland comes in as the much more hyped team. No doubt Osceola's players and coaches love this. The Dreadnaughts in 2022 have played a spring game they dominated vs. Venice, a quarter and a half vs. Armwood that they led 13-6 when the game was called, and running-clock blowouts of Clearwater and Winter Haven. It is very hard to get a good read on how good they are offensively, given the ease with which they've won their two games. They've shown big play capability with WR Tyler Williams and Rb D'marius Rucker. They've also been called for many penalties, which is typical for them. QB Pleuss has hit a couple of big passes, but also thrown several bad balls, as well as being very late in making the correct read in a completion at Clearwater. In all, the numerous scores by the defense, special teams, and one-play drives leaves us with very little idea of exactly what they can do against one of the top defenses in the state. There's reason to believe Osceola can mostly contain this offense, though there's also reason to believe the offense will hit more big plays. I don't know for sure what to expect. Defensively, there's an excellent chance this will prove to be the best defense in school history. They are quite strong at all three levels, but the secondary is the strongest. The one weakness is something which can be a strength: depth to rotate many players. It can be a weakness because it means they sometimes get caught with less than their best players on the field. They've been hyper-obsessed with rotating players every couple of plays.

Special teams appear to mostly be a strength for both teams. I have to assume neither will be dumb enough to kickoff deep to the other. Punting is much more difficult to kick away without it being a really crappy punt.

Osceola is the clear underdog. But, we've seen so little of Lakeland that we can't have an abundance of confidence in them yet. Osceola's best bet is to call an extremely conservative game on offense, hope they can catch Lakeland with a couple of their good-but-but-not great rotational defenders on the field for a couple of good plays, and perhaps have Swint make one or two big plays. The overwhelming majority of plays for the Kowboys offense will go for little to no yards. But, if they can avoid catastrophes (turnovers, huge losses) and play to their defense, that will be their best bet. Defensively, they have to try to keep Williams and Rucker from big plays. Lakeland appears explosive enough on defense and the kicking game to win decisively even if Osceola largely contains their offense. If Osceola can avoid giving up scores to Lakeland while the Dreadnaughts offense is on the sideline, they may be able to stay in the game for all four quarters, when anything can happen. For Lakeland, if they are to live up to their hype, they need to win by running clock or close to it.

    Official Game Prediction:

The game will be cancelled due to rain and lightning.

Ga96 stalked my LinkedIn page and grabbed my photo and proceeded to use it as his profile picture to try and intimidate me into leaving the site

Hawg only gave him a week ban which he initially refused to do anything until I pushed back

This dude under his badrouter moniker instead of being bothered by that chose to push for me to be banned over there because "I called him a clueless liar" for constantly misrepresenting which schools in Florida were loading up on transfers while conveniently leaving out his own school which was one of the worst offenders in the entire state

And I wasn't even the first time that Ga96 went and posted someone headshot on the board, that was his second offense

Both times it was a small 1 week suspension but I'm banned for calling out liars and because I left a board where I was fed of by a mod who was doing a double standard in how he managed the board and he had an ax to grind with me because I was posting on the other site so he felt maintaining consistency wasn't that important just like the rest of the toxic posters on the Prep Gridiron board who have seemingly been trying to bully any poster who posts on GSB site and tell them "your not welcome here, get lost"

But hey if Josh wants to ban me for defending myself I'll be glad to send over screenshots of you backing the doxer up and I'll also send him screenshots of what the mod over there had to say about Josh

I don't know the first thing about what any other poster does in their personal time/life. I don't recall even interacting with any posts by that poster, but if I happened to "like" or agree with anything he ever said, it certainly had absolutely nothing to do with this doxing you speak of. I have zero knowledge of anything of the kind. And, again, I think it's a clear sign of your mental illness that you keep blabbering on about it. Not to mention the fact that it has absolutely no bearing on this board, and talk of whatever it is you imagine happened doesn't belong here, anyway.

You are the lair for your characterization of my comments on transfers. Your description is quite literally the opposite of what I've said.

    You're a lunatic.

I stopped taking that board seriously once I saw how Prep Gridiron ran their OOS events or treated schools who weren't partnered with them

I assume you're talking about the nationalhsfb.com site? The guy who runs PrepGridiron logistics, and goes out of his way to shit on schools that don't partner with him, runs that site. The actual prepgridiron site is not run by a game promoter.

Rab been banned, me and garden state baller were also banned

What's amazing though is they don't ban lowndes punk 96 even though he has doxed multiple posters by posting headshots and both times he only got a week suspension

Of course badrouter (skyway) knew this and was actually backing the person doxing posters and then ran to every board asking for me to be banned because I called him out for lying

But that's why that Prep Gridiron national board is falling apart, the national HS Football board I'm on now is actually a good football board and isn't full of hypocritical leadership who gives favoritism to the south GA posters and attacks posters who got fed up with their crap

I'm certainly not responding to this post for ColumbiaFan, as that's a waste of time. But, for the reasonable minds here, I feel the need to reiterate the fact that I have absolutely no idea what this lunatic is talking about with this doxing stuff. Really weird that he keeps bringing this up pathologically. As for getting him banned, that's all on him. All I did on that board is what I've done here: point out in publicly viewable threads how he flagrantly violates the rules of the board through attacking other posters. That board has a moderator, and so he's gone. This board does not have a moderator, and so he's still here and still talking shit. Yes, after a certain amount of attacks and insults, which go unchecked, we can expect the people who've been attacked to have some words for him, too.

And as far as Jesuit I don’t know much or if anything about Wharton but I’ve never heard their team mentioned in ANY football power house conversations in all my years of playing & being a fan of this game.

jesuit also escaped by the skin of their team against a TC team who appears to be a shell of their last year selves & was also lit up 2 weeks ago by Palm beach central.

iMO STA,AHP & MNW , will run jesuit & Lakeland off the field if they played right now. Now granted we’re only 2 weeks into a very long season so a lot can change. But if we’re talking about RIGHT NOW & basing things off the product on the field Lakeland and jesuit should be lower. Hell dillards (1-1) record is better then Jesuit’s (2-0) & Lakeland (2-0) undefeated record.

How you feel about Lakeland, Jesuit, Wharton and anyone else not from Dade or Broward always has and always will be the same. You know only about teams from those counties, and have no respect (or knowledge about) teams from other areas. That's pretty typical, so I don't mean to call you, specifically, out. But, fact is, the only way you'd respect any of those teams is for them to relocate their campuses to Dade or Broward

Columbia ranks teams on how he FEELS. Teams have already played. You should adjust accordingly. Lakeland played one game against a bad team. Meanwhile better teams than Lakeland are beating better teams than their opponents. Let Lakeland earn it.

According to your approach, Alabama would not be a top 20 team, while Florida would be a top 3-4 team. Bama has only beaten lowly Utah St., while Florida beat top-10 Utah. Seems a little silly, no?

Lakeland needs to do something. Let’s see what they got first. They are actually being ranked on potential

Let's examine Venice in 2022: Blown out in spring game by Lakeland PRIOR to the boatload of transfers; Blown out by IMG; Controlled by MNW when MNW was without its best offensive player; beat Naples 12-11. So, you're suggesting that amounts to the "something" Lakeland hasn't done but needs to do to be ahead of your friend's team? Peacock thanks you for sustaining the fiction that they are a good team!

Rockledge: beat Gulliver Prep and Doral Academy. That's the kind of "something" Lakeland needs to do?

They played one game against a team that apparently isn't any good. All anyone can do is put a running clock on the opponent. Florida has by far the most extreme running clock enforcement in the country. Once it kicks in, the game is over.

I can’t rank CAI for the same reason I don’t rank IMG. The rosters are filled with more Non-Floridian players than Florida natives. It would be hypocritical to rank CAI and not IMG. But if I was placing them somewhere I would put IMG around 5th in the state right now, and CAI somewhere in the 20’s

Having Venice and Rockledge ahead of Lakeland is amusing.

  9. So, are we to assume Week 3 rankings are coming in a day or two?

Chaminade and Miami Central should be tied at the top IMO. Venice is still terribly overrated. CAI is a top 25 team, and perhaps better than that. You had them losing to Miami Palmetto, and they squandered numerous trips in the red zone, or else 26-0 would have become a running clock.

No doubt, those thinking we have no more games we can lose (except if we play Lakeland and get blown out) seem to be picking up the slack for Jesse with non-sensical pronouncements.  By the way, the lightning capital of the world by most standards is in Maracaibo, Venezuela or Africa.  Florida is considered by some with Oklahoma as the top in the US, but Orange county ranks higher than Polk.  So, I think this person just throw things out there to annoy and try to get others wound up.

Thomas W. Bryant Stadium at 7:30pm on Fridays in August/September is the lightning capitol of the world. :P

I think the Lakeland game will happen as this weather pattern usually last the first couple of weeks of the season.  As you and others have pointed out the Dreadnaughts are going to blow everyone out during the regular season plus we still have Rockledge, Mainland and West Orange who have all looked great so NO GUARANTEES!!  Tonight's game did have a weather delay for about an hour and a half.   Rain or shine, we will look forward to all those games.

The hardest game for the Dreadnaughts was always going to be CAI. There's just no need to compare CAI and Osceola since the Osceola game- like the other two games scheduled at Bryant this season so far- will not be played. Until they install domes over stadiums in Polk County, the odds of getting a game in are too poor to schedule them in the first place. The moving up of the school year and season to where the first games are in mid-August are a big part of the problem.

From those 2 convincing wins you would think AHP would be in the top 5 and their challenging schedule will give them a chance to prove it going forward.  But it goes to show you how inconsistent Maxpreps can be when Central (top 5 team) beats the #1 team IMG  and only goes to #2 in the STATE rankings behind CMD #1 .  Yet the same Maxpreps from that same showing moves Central to the #4 spot NATIONALLY and CMD to #12.  Hard to understand that logic.

There is a Maxpreps human top 25, and a "Maxpreps" computer ratings which is actually the calpreps computer. The computer heavily favors teams from California and Texas. This also means games against those teams (and teams that play those teams) tend to give much more weight. That computer system is what will be used to determine some playoff seeding. Pretty crappy IMO.

AHP should put a scare in people with a dominant offensive output vs Los Alamitos CA, ranked 25th national and top 5 in California (56-27).  The offensive weapons possessed by AHP are frightening from the RB's, WR's and QB.  You better be ready to score some points or won't have a chance.  The number 1 QB in the nation Malachi Nelson and his star receiver are unbelievable talents for Los Al but were no match for AHP.  They beat Lowndes last week and though they have a very strong schedule the game with CMD on 9/16 is a must see.

I agree. We have to see how Lowndes and Los Al fare the rest of the way, but at the moment AH should be very close to the top of the state rankings.

Now what will you  say if we beat central ? Lol

The psychological dynamics heading into the game will have to be like they were for Central vs. IMG. Central was able to sell to their kids the idea that they were massive underdogs expected to be blown out. So, they played with their hair on fire. If Dillard is able to play convinced they are the massive underdogs expected to get blown out (like last year at STA), they likely have a chance. If they come into the game thinking they are the favorites (kids can be really silly), Central likely wipes the floor with them.

  15. Nonetheless, Lehigh seems to have done an excellent job of marketing its program to recruits. They hauled in a great class, and have secured TV games. Looks like they will continue to be a recruiting force. Eventually, they'll become so loaded they'll be hard for anyone to beat.

Hey @Jesse @topnotch305 @skyway since you three gentlemen  thought my comments were so funny, how’s this one for a laugh?

Congrats to the Rockets on a great win. It was hard to assess IMG's offense because they scored so quickly and with ease vs. Venice. Once they faced a more athletic defense, their often mediocre offense showed it's head. I wonder why they played a Blair Castle clone all game, instead of the guy who played a lot vs. Venice. I guess I've never really been impressed with their offense. They just have the massive OL and awesome backs and usually walk into end zones. Failing that, it's ugly.

I don't know about the MNW game for you guys, haven't seen any of it. Did you have a super late rally to make it look close? Venice this season seems most dangerous after they've been blown out of the water and the other team starts to relax.
