It's a good thing Dwyer is not a powerhouse like it used to be.

Perspective reacted to Dr. D in In Celebration of the new season...
I wrote this poem last Friday night while enjoying a game. Any perceived slights, omissions or misrepresentations are strictly unintentional. If you’re pressed for time, skip ahead to the last two lines. In the spirit of “Twas the Night Before Christmas”; with apologies to Clement Clarke Moore and Joshua Wilson…
‘Twas the 25th of August, and all through this site
Board members were fired up; it was opening night
The coaches all studied their game plans with care
In hopes a state title soon would be there
The players were all clad in blues, whites and reds
While visions of NIL deals danced in their heads
Me in my team gear, with Momma in tow
Had just settled in for the band’s pregame show
When down on the field there arose such a clatter
I put down my popcorn to see what was the matter
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear?
The head man, with eight assistants pulling up the rear
I looked at the head coach, and thought, oh my gosh
For I knew in a moment it must be St. Josh
Full of bluster and hot takes, his posters they came
And he whistled and shouted and called them by name
Now Icaza, now Dillard, now Darter and KeemD
Now Venice, now Badbird, now NoleBull and Nulli
Now post away, post away, post away all
But first a little advice, for each of y’all
Feel free to debate, but don’t personally attack others
No matter your team, we are all still “brothers”
Keep your posts on point; don’t get too messy
Get way out of line, you’ll be on the sidelines like Jesse
Maintain some ‘Perspective’; you don’t want to be labelled
Foolishly bet on your team, and your account might be ‘Disabled’
Focus on the positive, point out players who are shining
Quit your complaining, and Metros - stop whining
Take it easy on the refs; they’re doing their best
But if you don’t like it, put ‘Jambun’ to the test
No fretting over classes; there may be a lot
Just be grateful it gives more Suburbans a shot
Don’t worry about Power Rankings; they’re really not that bad
Since you’re opposed to large districts, it’s the best to be had
You can dream about transfers having to sit out a year
For now, we can be thankful the football season is here
Now there’s green grass and bright lights; get ready, let’s go
You could be stuck at home watching some boring show
And then like a receiver, he was off in a flash
But I heard him exclaim as he took off in a dash
From Key West to Pensacola, and points far and near
Good luck to your team, and to all a good year!

With regards to depth, player rotation, etc.. questioned by Nolebull, regardless of who OHS plays they rotate a lot of players for continuity reasons from year to year as well as insurance vs the injury bug . They did this last week vs TC whether RB, DL, LB and DB plus they rotated both QB's equally. So a fan like myself who has sat in those stands for over 50 years has seen that firsthand. John Walker first landed under my radar as an incomng freshmen rotating at DT for a senior as an example and we knew then he would be a stud as is the case with other underclassmen I have mentioned filling roles as sophomores on this years team. So Nolebull's assessment may be true for other teams in this regard, but not the case with the Kowboys. Regarding transfers as stated by Coach Beek everyone gets them and most of the one's we initially were getting tended to be "Legacy" players who's dad, mom, uncle, etc.. went to OHS and played for them. They would come in as freshmen and grow with our program as opposed to stealing/recruiting someone else's top player and getting. them as an incoming senior. Secondly, our youth league for decades had 2 teams in Kissimmee both mostly run/coached by former alums who put in the effort to have solid feeder programs. One team generally had players go to OHS while the other fed Gateway HS, at one time the only two public HS. Due to who was doing the heavy lifting in these youth leagues a couple of years back those two teams migrated into one excellent team known as the Osceola Kowboys (8u, 10u, 12u and 14u). Any kid from the area was welcome and hence we would get incoming freshmen zoned for possibly Gateway, Poinciana, Liberty, etc... Hardly any from the St. Cloud area as they have their own youth league programs which tend to feed St. Cloud HS and Harmony HS. Lastly, the kids that went to Poinciana last season as well as this season were "ALL" backups on our squad but excellent players nonetheless as yes they had seen plenty of action at the varsity level for us. Akeem Knox for example would probably start as a RB for 80%+ teams throughout our state and I suppose you can ask Coach Beek his opinion on this assessment. He unfortunately was competing with another RB that is ranked in the top 10 in the entire state, thus his role. To close, my observation is you have lots of folks that know alot about teams around the state but when speaking specifically about my Kowboys not so much. My take.

Josh hasn’t given me the go ahead yet because of postponements and cancellations. I suggested we do 15 pics and whatever games get played out of the bunch will be the ones that Count.

File this under "it probably doesn't really matter to most folks," but the St. Augustine @ St. Pete Gibbs game reportedly has been cancelled because of Hurricane Idalia.
I expect more cancellations to follow, but this is the first cancelled game that I've seen reported.

I hate when JV games get cancelled. At least here in Hillsborough County, the JV teams only get to play 6 games and typically if a game gets canceled (for any reason), it doesn't get rescheduled. Those kids are out there practicing just as much as the varsity kids, so I hate to see them have an already short season made even shorter.

Perspective reacted to Beek in All Osceola County Football week 1 games
This person is not on my staff or a parent of a player to my knowledge. I have never met this person and obviously wouldnt know him or her if I did. This person seemingly knows a lot about whats going on. Their interpretation and their opinion is theirs and should be respected just as anyone elses opinion on this board. For me, I like that someone is not just discounting our accomplishments and the quality of players on this team, just because of the past.
Strength of schedule does have to be taken into account. But Nature Coast was district Champion last year, went 2 rounds deep in the playoffs the year before. They are a quality opponent. Our schedule was made 2 years ago when we were 1-9. We were everyone's homecoming date!
We do lack on the line and that is what hurts us. I would put our skill against almost anyone and feel we can play a competitive game, if we dont make the same mistakes we did last week. We do not have the complete package, but we are working on it. But I refuse to believe that we arent on caliber to be in the top half of our counties teams.
Ill put this out now. Whoever is the district runner up for Osceola's district,(provided they dont get an at large invite) which is most of our counties teams. Play us in a bowl game provided we qualify! Then people can talk!
Last year we tried to play St. Cloud and TOHO for a bowl game, but couldnt get everything worked out due to an untimely hurricane!

As I stated earlier, was not a good look for us this week. We got out coached then some of the coaches behaved like children. Players emulate coaches. That behavior was unacceptable, from coaches or players. We have had extensive meetings and will fix the problems with the coaching staff or changes will be made. Cross coaching is the issue, when one part of the game is lacking everyone thinks they have the answer to fix it. Stay in your lane! Dont blame the other side of the ball.
We lack an offensive identity, we do not run any play very good. We need to get better in offensive cohesiveness. You will see some drastic changes there over the next couple of games, until we figure out who we are. That is what we will focus on before our next game.

Perspective got a reaction from PinellasFB in Viera Coach Fired After Hazing Incident
Another update:
Viera's back in action: https://www.fox35orlando.com/news/second-opportunity-viera-high-school-will-compete-in-football-games-district-ends-suspension
Interestingly, no mention is made in the article as to the status of the coach.

Along these same lines, it occurs to me that within the game of football itself, teams are routinely 'penalized' when an infraction is committed by a single member of the team. An offensive lineman gets caught holding and the team gets penalized ten yards. So, yes, I agree with you that teams must sometimes pay the price for the actions of individuals . . . within reason (see my LOL post).
I have no problem with kids learning lessons through sports (back to that FHSAA announcement you hear before every game about athletics being an extension of the classroom). But, I don't think you penalize kids just to prove to them that life isn't fair. They'll learn that lesson often enough as it is.
A couple of guys get into a scuffle, that's one thing. Systematic hazing - especially if condoned by the coaches - is a whole different story. But here's the bottom line for me: the Brevard County School Board needs to recognize the impact of their decision (i.e., the decision to suspend football activities pending an investigation) and they need to accelerate the investigation process as quickly as possible to determine if and what penalties are appropriate so that those not involved can resume football activities as soon as possible.

Perspective got a reaction from Ray Icaza in Idalia Impact (rescheduling/delays/cancellations)
Might as well get this started. It appears that (soon-to-be) Hurricane Idalia will make landfall somewhere on the Gulf Coast on Wednesday morning and then move quickly across the state through the Jacksonville area by early Thursday morning. School closings in the Nature Coast area are imminent. Many counties have a rule that prohibits after-school activities if school itself is cancelled. I would expect to see school classes and activities canceled in Hillsborough and Pasco counties for Wednesday, for sure, and counties to the north and east (like Alachua, Marion and up into Duval) would be closed Wednesday and/or Thursday.
Stay safe everyone.

Excellent observation. When this particular player first made the varsity roster as a Kowboy he was a sophomore listed at 5'9" and 165 lbs. Today as a senior, he stands at 6' & 195 lbs. with 2 years of varsity experience yet we still have others that can do the job. None however is Taevion Swint including Akeem which is why he transferred. As a true freshman, Taevion got more touches (1100 all-purpose yards) than Akeem and as a sophomore last year against very stiff competition racked up almost 1700 yards on the ground with 20 TD's plus another 4 TD's thru the air. That is why I fully support and understand his transfer decision.

Not to beat a dead horse, but I suspect it's even tougher for schools to build depth at any position, but especially the skill positions. A talented RB or WR who finds himself a non-starter simply transfers. District lines no longer hold a kid hostage. Perhaps this is a good move for the kid, but it depletes the depth of the team from which he transfers.
