10 1/2 month contract for a new teacher is growing to 47k this year. You're "technically off" during those 1 1/2 months but there is training, pre-planning, etc. It isn't a full workload, but there is some unpaid work. Not to mention the unpaid work they do during the school year.
Some schools never have a prayer of winning a state title, especially in today's age. Call them exhibition games for all I care. Just give them more games. More games, more money. More games, more exposure. As long as we don't confuse it for what it is not, I don't see an issue.
I don't hate this as a concept if you just look at it as just "more football" for kids/coaches/fans.
I personally wouldn't hate having a "B" bracket so long as the winner of said bracket is not considered a state champion...because they're not. But more football isn't a bad thing, it is just all about perspective. You cannot call these teams state champions.
I am concerned this is just a cash grab from the FHSAA though. If they can "prove" that it works in the rural divisions, then they can have more football games at the higher levels of classification and rake in the money....
Depends on what "final" is...I've heard of a lot of schools that are unhappy and are going independent. Who knows how other schools will feel once things are reshuffled again?
1. They do.
2. Not anymore.
3. That is similar to what the SSAC does. Issue would be if you didn't follow the FHSAA rules then you wouldn't be eligible for postseason play, but some schools do it this way and are a part of the SSAC and the FHSAA. Although we probably would benefit from another/bigger association.
It is just really tough. If you're a Union County, what do you do? You pretty much have to suck it up and just get as far as you can just to lose to Chaminade. I am sure they will appeal, but probably to no avail.
