Man how we ever survive up in panhandle back in the day, playing on that type of grass. I just think people look for excuses for everything now.

I'm pretty certain this was it. There was an article in the 9/10/1912 Tampa Tribune about Hillsborough not having any challenges and specifically mentioned Lakeland not fielding a team. I think the Ft. Meade game was an attempt. The newspaper article indicates the game was possibly played.....but awarded by forfeit to Ft. Meade.

They are asking for $10 more per game for 8 officials a game for maybe 5 varsity and 4 JV home games per school? So $720 for the year per school? If our counties can't afford that, please shutter the programs.
