Dan in Daytona reacted to Perspective in Brawl ends Lakeland-Kathleen game, and possibly Lakeland's season
From the Lakeland Ledger:
"FHSAA officials confirmed that 12 players from both Lakeland and Kathleen were suspended as a result of a fight that broke out at the beginning of the third quarter when the two teams met on Oct. 27.
Kathleen players sat out last week, while Lakeland players will miss Friday night's home playoff game against New Port Richey Mitchell in the Class 4S, Region 2 quarterfinals."
. . .
"Polk County athletic director Dan Talbot said most of the suspensions were for one week, although a couple of players received two weeks suspension. The punishments were lighter than they could have been, he said, because the schools meted out their own punishments first."
Lakeland officials couldn't/wouldn't disclose what the punishment was because of "privacy laws."

“After helping yourself with leftover thanksgiving Turkey Friday morning take a good look outside. Actually go outside. Smell the dew on the grass. Look left, look right. Take a great big breath. Exhale slowly. If playoff football is but a bicycles drive from where you dwell consider yourself lucky. You my friend are in a football hot spot. Do not take it for granted. There are millions of your fellow Floridians that do not have that luxury. They have moved onto other sports. The cleats have been hung up. Jerseys have been turned in. The tears from seniors realizing they will never play another down of football in their life have dried up. All of the lambs have been sacrificed. This is when the season actually starts. Enjoy it while you can”

Dan in Daytona reacted to PinellasFB in Jesuit Assistant Coach Dismissed for Striking Player
I have a minority perspective on this subject apparently since the majority of us seem to be in the "kids are too soft today" category. My thoughts are a coach should never have a reason to strike a player. Grabbing a facemask or jersey to get their attention is not striking but it's a grey area I can tolerate. Striking players though shows a coach is out of control. A coach should always have a level head as there are many times during a game your players will drive you crazy. The biggest problem with coaches striking players is it rarely stops there. A coach who's willing to strike a player is going to bully and dominate them and make their lives a living hell. If you think it's just tough love you aren't looking at the person doing the striking. Who is so out of control that they would do that? You don't want that guy as the example your kids look up to how to handle adverse situations in this world. The coach should always lead by example.
Anyway, I know I'm in the minority here so it's cool if you disagree. Most of us all had this type of tough love when we played and we turned out okay, at least I think we did lol. It was also cool to get our brains scrambled with concussions back then. Today's era is different and we have to evolve with the times.

For over taking Hollywood Chaminade and winning the FHSAA's final regular season title. Hats off to this perennial little powerhouse that will play anyone, anywhere. It's hard not to love those kids and their fabulous football program.

I haven't seen even keeled and unflappable DarterBlue this perplexed since, after several hair pulling hours, discovering a small transposition error for a Fortune 500 client.....oh man.

You are smarter than you think. They are many highly educated people (I can vouch for this) that are deficient between the ears. An education gives one the trappings of being intelligent, but in reality, if you are born dumb, an education is not going to make you smart. It may make you more knowledgeable and it certainly opens up doors that would otherwise bel closed, but your overall intelligence is likely determined at conception barring exposure to something toxic like too much lead during the formative years.

They work hard and play with a lot of heart. Also, thank you Dan.
Hopefully we will see Mainland in the finals. They're a very good team.
