Sounds like a good night to get some garbage fries from Cafe 66 or an oyster po'boy from Fishack before heading over.

It’s been a while since I been back home in Vero but back in the day me and the guys would go over to Heavenly Wings next door to the stadium, they made some pretty good fish sandwiches too! That was *sigh 20 years ago though.

While it would generally be an awful development, one "problem" could be partly solved. If boosters are able to build "collectives" of some sort to offer enticements to players, new schools could emerge as elite. Schools with big, wealthy booster clubs might be able to attract major talent from across the state or even country. Maybe someone like Vero Beach or Niceville etc could put together impressive "NIL" deals that urban powerhouses with less financially generous booster clubs can't come up with. We could see kids moving from Dade/Broward up to Vero to get some big NIL package. Of course I'm just throwing out random ideas, and I don't know how plausible any of it really is. But, a smaller scale version of the college landscape seems possible if not likely.

lol before I even read this post just going off the topic I was thinking to myself “Hey maybe something we could be good at up here” (Vero). If something like that would happen I do know our boosters have deep pockets. Hopefully though this doesn’t happen, the sport has already been messed with enough.

I was not sure whether to give you a heart or the smiley face, LOL. Yes, you were a year younger than my older child back when you started posting on the Florida Varsity Central board.

Yea I found that old board when I was a teachers aide my senior year. The teacher was also the varsity cheerleading coach and was super cool and just let me use her computer or run errands around town for her back when we had an open campus. Good times man!

You can even say 10 years ago when I was in school, we actually had kids transfer out but we mainly played with homegrown talent, from freshman and jv teams, when I was a freshman, we didn't have a freshman team

When did they get rid of the freshman team? Man that was a great time and weeeded out a lot of wannabes before moving up to the JV/Varsity level.

@Trelle, 20 years or so ago, back when you represented VB, I bet well over 90% of the team was "home grown" in the sense that they spent all four years at VB. Today, while VB is still a community school, that's not the case in athletics anymore.

Hey now I’m not that old, so 19 years ago (lol) but yes I can honestly remember 3 kids that transferred in 1 from St Edward’s (private Vero school), one from John Carroll (private school in Ft. Pierce but he lived in Vero) and from Sebastian (who grew up in Vero and I personally have been friends to this day with since 6th grade and transferred in like myself after parents divorced and his dad was in Vero). 2 started on the line (C and G) and my buddy was a co-starter at QB. Everyone else pretty much came up playing 9-12th grade. We have a great group of feeder schools into 9th grade from multiple private and public middle schools I really don’t see the need for transfers. With home grown talent we were in the playoffs every year, playing good competition, and ALOT of camaraderie between the guys.

Last year Vero put on a clinic on how to stop it but hey that was last year lol, but yea Vero got shutout last night in the second half, Vero hasn't been a second half team all year long which is NOT a state champion, I believe season may end right there in Port St Lucie, in the second or third round, better hope they don't get DeLand

The craziest part is, if you looks years back Vero has always been a great second half team and would make adjustments during the half and usually pull away. This year 2nd half they come out flat, and unresponsive like they give up even with a lead.

Sadly, TC brought its basic singe wing and a hybrid spread and VB had no answer. After facing the basic single wing for several years, VB has not figured out how to stop it as they got hit with counters time after time. Now VB faces the possibility of DeLand in the first round. If you can't stop TC, then you will have a tall order stopping RD. That and VB having no offense at all in the second half did you in.

This Vero team is one of the oddest teams I’ve seen us field in years. As I said in an earlier thread they just don’t gel and everything and everyone seems out of sync. Not sure what’s going on. They have play makers on both sides of the ball, but this is a team sport and no one seems like they want to play with each other. Hate to say it but if it’s Deland then it’ll be another one and done season again.

Did anyone miss the playoffs? That could be the only reason I could come up with if 0-8 teams are making the playoffs. Imagine going 2-8 and calling yourself a state champion. Lol.

Imagine if the Space Coast team lost in the championship, but a week later the other team had to forfeit the win for an ineligible player. Space Coast in theory could win their championship with a 1-8 record, and no actual wins on the field.

Cardinal Newman vs Benjamin - Possibly the best in PBC.

Deland vs OC University - SB's creative mind is the difference in a nail biter.

Columbus vs Norland - With Mendoza out, Norland wins this game fairly comfortably.

Hudson vs Williston - Hard game to pick. I selected Williston just BC Pasco County football is usually pretty bad.

South Sumter vs Vanguard - Another hard game to pick. I am going with the bigger school.

Tampa Bay Tech vs Jesuit - Jesuit seems to be on the upswing.

Western vs Miramar - If Western is to have any chance in 4M, they need to win this game.

Mainland vs Osceola - I believe Mainland wins a nail biter, but would not be surprised if Osceola upsets them.

Sarasota Riverview vs Manatee - Manatee loses its second game in a row to a Sarasota County team.

Ft Pierce Central vs Westwood - FPC should win coming off its good performance against TC.

South Dade vs Booker T - ICE Harris all the way.

Buchholz vs Bartram Trail - It's looking like Buchholz may be for real.

Wakulla vs NFC - I will take the Public over the Private in this one.

Wekiva vs Jones - Jones dashes Wekiva's hopes of a playoff spot.

Anclote vs Weeki Wachee - Both of these teams are really bad; I literally flipped a coin. This is like Colonial playing Cypress Creek.

Selections are bold underscored. I have dived into the deep end since no one else wants to go first.

I think it’s a toss up with the Ft. Pierce teams, rival game and all. Central played well against TC but when compared to the Vero games, Vero beat Westwood 35-0 and Central 45-6. I think it’s gonna be pure luck on this pick lol.

I watched Vero against Central this evening. There's something off kilter with Vero. They won 45-6, and yes, FPC is really bad, but Vero had 3 turnovers and gave up multiple sacks. I've seen them against Dwyer (preseason), Miami NW, Palm Beach Gardens, Sanford, and now FPC. They've looked nothing like what I thought they would this year, and just seem really unorganized and lacking intensity except for the Miami NW game.

Totally agree even with less talent other years the team has always seemed “together” every game this year looks like a Spring game or Kickoff Classic, like there’s not a lot of chemistry between everyone on the team, it feels different this year for whatever reason.
