21-20. Final Hawthorne. The interception in the first quarter on 3rd and 1 at the 2 yard line was the difference (to me). 2 more first half turnovers (pick 6) and muffed punt led to 14 points. Pahokee fought back in the 4th to cut it to 1, but got stopped on 4th and 4 (pass batted down at the line) ended any real threat.
Hawthorne’s fans (some, not all) were classless, cursing at the Pahokee players as they were leaving the field. Good game, overall 

To answer your question, having lived in Georgia, it is a somewhat confusing but interesting system.  Each class has 8 regions (think "districts") with 6-8 teams per region.  Round-robin play with top 4 teams advancing based on region record.  So 32-team bracket.  One team from each region is placed in each of the four 8-team sub-brackets, cross-seeded with the adjacent region.  Bottom line is all 4 teams from a single region could conceivably qualify for the state semifinals (as could 2 teams from the same region qualify for the finals).  As this is not easily explained in words, view brackets on GHSAA website if you want a visual.   

You are conflating 2 variables.  The seeding is different this year because it is the first year that the FHSAA did not award automatic top-4 seeds to all district winners.  The seeding is more accurate this year for the simple reason that there are no more "undeserving" district winners with a top-4 seeds.  They are now seeded 5, 6, 7, or 8 where they belong.  With more accurate seeding, one would expect a higher proportion of higher seeds advancing compared to last year.  You can't say definitively whether the FHSAA Power Rankings were any more accurate than last year's RPI would have been in the same circumstances.  The use of the word "Maybe" in the topic line is about the best you can say.  At least we agree on the transparency issue, or lack thereof.  

OK it hurts me to say this, but maybe the FHSAA ranking system is better than we gave it credit for? If the rankings were perfect, we would expect that the regional finals would be made up of only #1 and #2 seeds. Now, we know that a perfectly chalk bracket never happens in any sport, but the FHSAA rankings did pretty well.

I would also note that after regionals, I don't think any ranking system truly matters, because to get to the final four you must be good and the differences so small that anything can happen. 

Maybe some of the DFB players brought over some of their culture of the hype they always had with the talent on paper when they were wit DFB and thought that they would be better off grouped with Dillard but fell back into their old routine when the big lights shined on them.

Like I said already I would have no problem using metro suburban and turning it into 3 suburban/rural and 3 metro classes 
 
 

Why not have each state champion play each other in sort of a bowl series, to determine the true state champion?

These teams have been in the same district and region at many times over the years. Try another argument with this one.

Okay so merge 1R, 1S, 2S, 3S and 4S into 3 suburban classes

The system won't really address it. Just for those labelled suburban. But what about Tampa Bay, Orlando and Jacksonville or Palm Beach County for that matter. They will still be in essentially the same position they were in. 
Apopka is not a school that aggressively recruits. But it gets little help from the redone system. Yes, currently Columbus is the only real South Florida threat. But if some of the large publics in Dade and Broward decide to do a Miami Central, then we will still be disadvantaged.
I am not going to whine any further on this. But in my opinion only making kids that transfer sit a year unless it can be proven beyond reasonable doubt that there is a real reason for the transfer that is not sports related (such as the death of a custodian, a divorce, and the like) will make the system fairer. 

There have been a few the FHSAA has gone after, but the numbers and a breakdown you are asking for would take going through a public records request and something I do not have the funds for at this time (wish I could get this info, but currently more worried about trying to keep a roof over my head at the moment). 

I respectfully disagree @nolebull813. The biggest thing is here is open enrollment which was NOT an issue 15-20 years ago. That is a massive issue in larger areas teams can get really good and keep adding talent and then when you get that matchup between two similar sized schools in a state championship with one from South Florida and one from where ever in North or Central Florida, there is a mismatch. 
Please tell me how a team like Suwannee who has 1,112 students and Miami Central who has 1,396 students are on the same leveled playing? They are not. No way they are not. You cannot even compare a rural-type school in Suwannee to a Miami Central in the middle of Miami. There is no comparison. It is night and day between the two.

Injuries can play havoc at the end of the season as it appears the Rockledge QB did play against Mainland but was he 100%.  Same thing with Rucker from Seminole, not to take anything away from a good Lake Mary team but did it have any effect on the outcome?  It happens and without knowing to what extent injuries are affecting a team I believe we are seeing it in some of the latest results. 

Those are facts. Same thing happen to my alma mater in Rockledge. The city and county as a whole had high hopes of having both Cocoa and Rockledge reaching state for the first time together.

Alright, I took the time to figure out the scenarios for the state semifinals and what the possible matchups could look like based upon the final FHSAA Power Rankings that were used to seed the regional playoff brackets. 
 

It would be wrong for me to speculate what went wrong as I know nothing about their squad as I obviously have more interest in mine.  My point is setting high expectations is what teams should do, but if you overstate were they stand you open yourself up for people to pile on.  It's not my intent, just my observation. 

Got more info about the injury. He sustained a fractured femur. From the looks of the broadcast it was really gruesome by the reactions of the players in the immediate vicinity of the player.
