OldSchoolLion reacted to 954gator in Multiple Choice Quiz-Metro Area with Richest Talent
Oh for sure the big programs get the most highly rated kids because IMO the recruiting services are lazy and like to kill 2 birds with one stone. Basically, if these kids aren't showing up for the camps or aren't at a big school where scouts are they get overlooked.
Guys like this are minimum 4stars in other states.
Another one that comes to my mind is Shawn Davis from Southridge a couple years ago. Barely a 3 star with the tape and size/speed? Crazy. Yes there are guys at STA, IMG, AHP, etc that are rated higher than these guys because these recruiters are LAZY.

Also, for the record... DP has won a playoff game every year since 2006....
26-11 in the playoffs over a 12 year period!

The national “experts”, none of which put DP in the preseason top 100, have a nice surprise coming for them this year.

OldSchoolLion reacted to Hwy17 in More coaching feedback on new system
You might remember then that due to budget cuts, Polk county cut the pay of coaches and most assistants don't get paid. Also they won't allow them to travel outside the county unless it is a district game or to a neighboring county under 50 miles.
Just my opinion, but most schools that struggle in football are due to a lack of stability at coaching and a losing culture that can't seem to get over as a result of it. This is especially true when you see the school good at other sports, basketball and baseball in particular.
While it is true that a really good small school can and will put a beat down on a really bad big school, its not right to have to play bigger schools every week.

OldSchoolLion reacted to DisabledAccount in More coaching feedback on new system
One of biggest issues for a lot of programs that used to be good dropping off has to do with coaching instability (or a elite coach retiring or leaving without a good replacement filling in the shoes) as well as a changing demographic in certain areas of the state

Come on Pipe, you know Mainland's one of them. Since the Bucs dropped down in classification to match their enrollment (2011) instead of playing two classes above they've had at least one playoff win each year since:
2011- 3 wins, lost to Miami Central - State Champ (stripped).
2012- 2 wins, lost to Naples
2013- 3 wins, lost to Miami Central- State Champ
2014- 3 wins, lost to Miami Central- State Champ
2015- 2 wins, lost to Miami Central- State Champ
2016- 2 wins, lost to Miami Carol Cty- State Champ
2017- 1 win, lost to Miami Carol Cty
DP finally wins Championship (2017) and beats Mainland. PipeDreams forgets a$$ whippings in '15, '16.....selective memory

OldSchoolLion got a reaction from KeemD321 in The Great Glades Central vs Rockledge Rivalry
How can two schools about 150 miles apart have a rivalry? Ask the Raiders from Rockledge and the Raiders from Glades Central.
They had a tremendous rivalry in 3A/4A between 1994 and 2004. They met 7 times in the playoffs, and 6 of those games were played in the Muck.
1994 Rockledge 16 Glades Central 13 4A regional final at Glades; Raiders' mistakes doom them
1995 Rockledge 18 Glades Central 10 4A first round playoff game at Glades; Rockledge scores 13 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to win
1997 Glades Central 14 Rockledge 7 4A state semifinal at Glades; Undefeated Glades Central was up 14-7 at halftime...defensive back Derrick Saunders ended Rockledge's last-minute comeback attempt by intercepting an Andrew Johnson pass with 43 seconds left
1999 Glades Central 28 Rockledge 17 3A regional final at Rockledge; Rockledge, which averaged 109 yards on defense this season, gave up a season high 260 yards to the defending state champions. Sophomore quarterback Curtis Holley threw for 152 yards and three touchdowns in the victory. Central went on to win the 3A title.
2000 Glades Central 20 Rockledge 17 3A regional final at Glades; the top two teams in 3A met and Rockledge missed a 25-yard field with less than 10 seconds left. Central went on to win the 3A title.
2001 Rockledge 21 Glades Central 14 3A regional final at Glades; Glades came in ranked #1 in the class and #5 in the nation by USA Today and had a 47-game winning streak. A crowd of over 6000 saw #2-ranked Rockledge shock the 3-time defending state champs and snap the streak. Rockledge QB Hunter Pingston threw 2 TD receptions. The score was 21-14 at the half and stayed that way. Rockledge went on to win the 3A title.
2004 Glades Central 17 Rocklege 0 3A regional semifinal at Glades

OldschoolLion,
Years ago I used to drive my family from the South Orlando area to the American Heritage Delray/Oxbridge games. We would load the SUV and make a day trip out of it. It would be me, my husband, brother, father and brother-in-law. This very topic came up. We ultimately determined it's because the teams in the Tampa area protect their territory.
When we went down to Palm Beach nobody seemed to care about transfers or if they did care they didn't let on they cared. Teams in Tampa take it personally when kids transfer out of a program and are quick to point fingers in the media/social media. I actually think it has lightened up a bit but you still have these situations that crop up where one team builds a stacks team and gets a ton of media exposure, but those teams seem to sizzle out around week 6 and the traditional powers (aka the teams people are tired of reading about) take over and have their typical 3rd-4th round playoff runs.
Largo has done a great job of accumulating talent, but the jury is still out if it will amount to anything more than a message board post in mid July.

OldSchoolLion got a reaction from Zoe Boy in Rivalry Game Threatened due to Transfers
Life is all about the journey. Like the kids today, I ran around like a chicken with my head cut off chasing "success" and happiness, until I finally figured out that the rings, wealth and titles meant nothing to me later in life. The kids will figure it out as they get older, like most of us do. What concerns me most is the older folks playing upon their insecurities for their gain, and it is happening at a younger and younger age now.

Largo has a lot of talent, but not a lot of coaching from what I'm told and what others feel. Individually they're as good as any team you can build. They play East Lake in week 2 which will tell us everything we need to know about Largo. Ranking wise they're either #3 or #4 in Pinellas County in the eyes of most Tampa area people I've communicated with.
In addition to the names you listed, they also have a QB who threw 2k yards and 22 TD's for rival Northeast High School transfer in which resulted in an article being written:

OldSchoolLion got a reaction from peezy28 in Rivalry Game Threatened due to Transfers
The challenge coaches face today is really no different than that faced by hiring managers. Companies are bitching about not being able to retain talent and complain that millenials are self-centered, have unrealistic expectations, etc. The smart managers are looking themselves in the mirror and challenging themselves to figure out ways to better engage their talent so that it sticks around.
No doubt there are kids out there that are going to leave regardless of one's efforts, and those are the ones we might not want on our teams anyway. I have to think there are also some kids who leave because they and/or their parents do not feel as invested in the program/school as they could be. The job of the coach is changing, just like a lot of other jobs today. They need to deal with it or leave the profession.
There are a number of high-tier players in Florida who stuck it out at lower-profile programs. No doubt they would have been welcome elsewhere with open arms. Something kept them there, and my guess is that those players felt ownership in their schools.
