He would have to beat this guy.  Rumor has it he spent too much time on high school football forums early in life.

That's true.  There has been a lot of discussion and I put together a list of current coaches and their tenures, from which the above question arose.  The numbers are what they are.   What do the numbers mean?  Well, that's an interesting discussion for all of us to have.

I have a lot of respect for Buckridge and his staff. Most of them coached at Boone under Ziegler at one time or another. They know their football and make the best of the talent available to Timber Creek. It doesn't hurt that the TCHS community supports its athletic programs.

It's either him or Jim Buckridge at Timber Creek then. Darlington was away from Apopka for three years when he coached in South Georgia, so that's why it's not Rick.

To determine the top football baby factories, cleveland.com tabulated state totals for where NFL players were born and then calculated a ranking -- based on a ratio of current players from each state to births in the early 1990s when a big share of today's players were born.  The top five states are all from the Southeast.

    Hey buddy,
Am curious what criteria you are using to judge the teams from Alabama, ie poll rankings, records, etc.   When I first moved to Georgia I was blown away by the quality, having always thought Florida was so superior.  For that reason, I  would be hesitant to judge the teams from Alabama without seeing them play.
I've been in every part of Alabama.  Like some impoverished pockets in Florida, there are areas of Alabama that believe football is the only way out and they take their football very seriously.  If we are talking North Dakota, yeah, I probably don't need a lot of convincing that Florida is on another level.
I think we sometimes talk about Florida as if the whole state is filled with very good teams.  If Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties fell into the ocean and IMG disappeared, Florida would not be nearly as special.  It is those counties that make Florida so strong.  That's not saying there are not very good teams elsewhere.  But they are spread out.
South Florida is on another level than Alabama.  Southwest Florida, North Florida, north central Florida...not so sure.

I would be careful about judging unless you have actually seen some of these teams play.
Back in 2014, a "no-name" team(at that time) from Alabama destroyed our 7A state semifinalist Niceville.  Next think you know that team is nationally ranked.

For whatever reason, Alabama doesn't seem to get the press of Florida or Georgia hs football..at least that is my perception.  I am not sure why.  Only makes sense that a state with Univ of Alabama and Auburn in it would be loaded.  Unlike Florida, their public schools don't have as many private school powerhouses competing for talent.
Everyone has heard of Hoover, but there are a number of other lesser know big school programs in Alabama that could likely give the better public school programs in FL all they could handle.   They don't seem to get love by the polls though.  I chuckle when I see some Midwest programs ranked in the top 25  and Alabama schools that could likely blow their doors off not in even the top 50.  The number of FL hs's showing up in the national polls may be a bit inflated simply because of the state's reputation.

OldSchoolLion reacted to Dan in Daytona in SFL vs Orlando Teams in 8A
Eight of those Southern winners (since '96) are bumped up small teams. Those that played above their in school population. As a central Florida homer, I also agree Orlando 8A is stronger then SFL 8A. But substitute with Miami NW, Central, Carol City, BTW, Killian, Jackson, and Mirimar and the south wins going away. With the exception of Jones and Bishop Moore all Orlando is 8A. The south is much different, more diverse, larger population, and many private powerhouses.

Panther, in the late 1980's the private schools in Broward were nothing like today.  Except for Dillard and Ely, there was nothing holding Broward public schools back from emerging as powerful programs.  Even in the 90s, it was really just STA, so still plenty of opportunity...but most Broward public schools had marginal success, even when things were less competitive.
Between the mid 80's and early 2000's, when they were excelling, Dillard and Ely had good/very good continuity at head coach.   The wheels fell off when they got into the coaching merry-go-round mode.  Just as some colleges from up north, ie West Virginia, Kentucky, etc,  have come to Florida and focused on 2-3 star talent and slowly built up their programs, I think a smart Broward coach could do the same...focus on those kids with good natural talent that could not start at one of the powerhouse private schools.  We have college teams ranked today that people 10-20 years ago would have never dreamed of being there.

What I am saying is that it would not matter unless they are playing the teams they cannot beat... For Armwood they can play any team in the state every week but unless they are playing against Central, BTW, Northwestern ETC it will not help them get over the mental edge THOSE schools have over them.  For Plant the can play any team in the state but unless they are playing STA (well F it when STA is fully powered it still would not matter).
The last team to play STA in our whole area close was Largo twice sorta... 1st time they lost 42-14 after leading going into the half 14-7.  Then the next year they lost 28-14 with the game tied at 14 going into the 4th... That's just as close as we get.

I respectfully disagree.  The Atlanta metro area as a whole easily surpasses Miami-Dade County in terms of depth.
In terms of presence on the ESPN list, MIami-Ft Lauderdale-WPB(24 players) is neck-and-neck with the Atlanta metro area(23 players).
Miami-Dade County has approximately the same number of public high schools as the total number of public schools in Gwinnett and Cobb Counties(of Atlanta) do when combined.  Below are the Maxpreps rankings for the top 7 schools from each area.
    Miami-Dade
    Northwestern #28
    Central #52
    Carol City #161
    Columbus #254
    Booker T Washington #563
    South Dade #596
    Southridge #597

    Gwinnett & Cobb Counties
    North Gwinnett #22 (G)
    Grayson #75 (G)
    Brookwood #104 (G)
    Archer #106 (G)
    McEachern #122 (C)
    Walton #128 (C)
    Buford #172 (G)

I agree with Darter in terms of the current rankings and the decade-long trend with Palm Beach falling off a bit. Tampa remains consistent. Orange County has risen (see previous post).
I disagree with Darter in that DP and Apopka have three large class titles in six appearances over the past 8 years. That’s major top-2 consistency. Plant/Armwood is a very close comparison, however (DP and Plant each won two against each other in the playoffs from 2011-2014)
The most drastic change, to me, is the fall off in the Bradenton-Manatee area and the typical powers out of Tallahassee. They were far above Orange County in the 90’s and 00’s.

Based on those five I’d go:
    1. Miami-Dade
    2. Broward
    3. Orange
    4. Hillsborough
    5. Palm Beach

Miami & Broward are tops, easy.

    1. Miami Dade has a big edge with public schools, as its best consistently compete for state titles. 2. In aggregate, Broward County comes in second. However, its public schools are no better than Orlando, Hillsborough or Palm Beach. It is the privates that give them the spot. 3. Orange County, top to bottom, probably beats out Hillsborough and Palm Beach. However, Hillsborough's two best are more consistent than Orange County's best in terms of deep playoff runs. 4. Hillsborough, at the top have great programs. However, the public schools lack depth. They have some decent private schools. 5. Palm Beach would have ranked higher a decade ago. However, with the exodus of sugar from the muck, Pahokee and Glades Central have fallen off a bit.

It would be an interesting stand-alone topic...scheduling.  Armwood and Plant seem to have done just fine over the years in the playoffs even without the toughest of regular season schedules.  I am sure we could name other teams as well.
In the stone ages, you usually played local teams.  And it was part science, part art to get your team ready for the playoffs and "up" for specific games.  Somehow we managed.  There is a point of diminishing returns when it comes to scheduling "tough" teams.  Once your team is at a certain level of play, further exposure is not necessarily going to make them better.   Quality of practice and coaching is far more important.
If I am a boxer, facing a wrestler in a match is not going to make me a better wrestler.  Practicing wrestling with a good coach on a regular basis is going to make me better.
