Perspective got a reaction from DarterBlue2 in Final Dillard 42 Boyd Anderson 7 Game Called AGAIN after brawl breaks out between coaches & players in the beginning of 4th Qt.
I'm not sure how this makes sense.  A kickoff is a live ball; either team can recover it (assuming it traveled the necessary 10 yards).  A punt, on the other hand, would be different.  And if it were a punt, there's no reason why anyone from the receiving team needs to be anywhere close to the ball once the decision has been made not to field the punt and try to return it.  I never understand why someone from the return team feels the need to get up close to the ball and watch it roll while there are several members of the kicking team around the ball.  Nothing good can happen for the return team.  But I digress.
The other thing I'll never fully understand is why guys on a football field throw punches at players that are wearing helmets.   Rarely, if ever, do you see guys throwing body shots when a melee break out; they're always swinging up high at a dude wearing a helmet with a facemask.  Now, the guys who grab the facemask and try to sling the other guy around/down, I kind of get that.  But taking a full-on swing with an unprotected hand making contact with a hard plastic design specifically to protect a person's head, I just don't get that.  But I digress again.
Sorry the game ended the way it did, but ending early wasn't the worst thing that could happen to Dillard this week.

It would be funny if it were not tragic. If no district games, why bother with districts, then? Positive change is always good. Change for change sake without thinking things trough or if it's driven by political considerations, often is only leads to a worse situation.

Instead, we have a proposal by the FHSAA "Task Force" to do away with district games altogether.  Which means fewer common opponents (which the mathematicians say are needed to make computer rankings more accurate).  So the Power Rankings will be even worse than they are now!  Brilliant!

If you win your district, you should be able to host the first round playoff game.  Period.
I know that the FHSAA rankings have not been updated yet, but here would be the situation in 4M, Region 2 if the season ended today:
The top three teams in the region are all in District 8 (Sumner, Riverview and Durant, in that order).  The 4 seed would be Olympia, the 5 seed Plant, the 6 seed Palm Harbor U, the 7 seed Plant City and the 8 seed Dr. Phillips.  As the top seed and district winner, Sumner would host Dr. Phillips, a district runner-up.  Fair enough.  The 2 seed and district runner-up, Riverview, would host the District 7 runner-up, Plant City.  Two non-district winners, higher seed hosts.  Again, fair enough.  In the 3 seed vs 6 seed match-up, the 6 seed and District 6 winner PHU, would host the 3 seed, Durant (another non-district winner).  Once again, fair.  Even though PHU is the lower seed, it hosts because it won its district.  But here's where it gets interesting:  the 4 seed and District 5 winner (Olympia) would face off against the 5 seed and District 7 winner (Plant).  Under the current system, and because they are both district winners, the 4 seed would host simply because they are percentage points ahead in a flawed ranking system.  Yet, the 5 seed would travel and the 6 seed would host.  Huh?
In my view, the FHSAA should go back to the system that was in place a few years ago:  The four district winners get the top 4 seeds (seeded per the flawed ranking system) and get to host the first round playoff game.  Then use the flawed ranking system to determine seeds 5 through 8.  Yes, there will be many time (perhaps more often than not) where the 5 seed (i.e., the best non-district winner in the region) beats the 4 seed (i.e., the worst district winner).  But the district winner should be rewarded with hosting at least one playoff game.

Your right about Perspective as I don't hold that against him either, although he seemed to think at one time that I shared his profession.  Don't know what could have ever given him that idea.

Perspective reacted to DarterBlue2 in They are not Cake Mary anymore
Tonight my beloved Apopka Blue Darters were carved up, sliced and diced, by the Lake Mary Rams. The final score was 49-21 as we scored a final touchdown on our penultimate drive to make the score look a little more respectable. This loss was the first running clock put on us (I believe) since 2005 when a very good Madison County team did the same to us at their place. And, in the interim we have played some great teams such as 2018 Lakeland and 2021 Venice.
Res Ipsa Loquitur (The loss speaks for itself).
I am 95% sure Lake Mary will win class 4M easily and I also believe they likely do so with an undefeated record. Even if they accomplish this feat, I am equally sure the Nay Sayers will say: 1. 4M was not good this year. 2. They would get blow out by Central, Chaminade, Norland, St. Thomas, Cocoa, etc.
The above may or may not be true. We will never know. But in truth and in fact, this is a very, very good football team that is superbly coached. I would put my money that no team in the state would "blow them out."
As for Noah Grubbs, I can't say enough about this young man's upside potential. Absent choosing Baseball if he's a high draft pick, or suffering a career ending injury, he will be a first round draft pick in the 2029 NFL draft.

So just briefly... Buchholz and Bartram Trail is usually a great matchup any time these two teams hit the field together.
Last night... Buchholz is showing flashes they could win Class 4S this year... Bartram Trail I think still makes the playoffs, but they got a lot of work to do after the 44-7 thumping last night.
Oh and Doug Johnson's kid (yes that Doug Johnson of Florida Gators great)... Trace Johnson is a heck of a quarterback with now 8 starts under his belt as a sophomore. Worth watching him over the next few years. Going to be a top prospect not just in Florida, but nationally.

Oh, lord, did you really just question the officiating?  Without referencing the specific plays in question by quarter, down-and-distance, and time-stamp?  And without providing your resume or C.V. to establish your qualifications to form an opinion on something so inherently difficult to understand as officiating?
Well, I think we all know how this one's going to play out.

I attended John's funeral service last night. It was held at the Apopka High School auditorium, which in his case, was appropriate, since he was the voice of Apopka's sports programs. His family asked attendees to wear either Tennessee Orange or Darter Blue. Most people complied.
He got a nice turnout. The typical high school auditorium in Orange County public high school seats between 750 and 1,000. It's my estimate that Apopka's was over 60% full last night. Aside from the normal things that occur at a funeral, Apopka's Mayor, Brian Nelson, issued a formal proclamation on his behalf. Rather than have one individual deliver a eulogy, his consisted of: his wife, stepson and best friend since childhood, each sharing personal memories of the man and his life, some of which were touching and some funny.
The event evoked both a sense of poignancy and joy at the same time. Sadness at the passing of an Apopka luminary, and joy and gratitude for the celebration of a life well lived.

Julian, do you play Fantasy Football?   Talk about something that will change the way you watch football games on Sundays (and Thursday and Monday nights).  You won't care less about whether a team wins or loses, as long as the WR on one of the teams can get you at least 6 catches, 80 yards and a TD.

Perspective reacted to ExplorerHomer2 in Off Topics: High school Basketball - top two teams in the country (and in Florida) battle at 9PM tonight ESPN2
Yes, this is "club" ball or the NIBC (National Interscholastic Basketball Conference) which IMG plays in an completes for a separate national title. All the teams invited to this tournament are top notch basketball factories in the NIBC with high major players from around the nation - all IMG-level programs basically - just for hoops. And Montverde Academy in Florida is usually the king of them all. The tournament I linked you to basically features NIBC teams and elite high school "club" teams, but they can't play under the school name due to FHSAA regs. So it is not "Christopher Columbus High School" that played, but a club team called "Explorers".
MaxPreps actually has two separate rankings listed for basketball: High school and NIBC
And your point about football season is well taken. But in reality, there is no one on our football team, or many other teams who will make tryouts for basketball this year or last - the team is insanely good and still quite young. I'll go out on a limb at say this might be the best high school squad in the country this year and possibly one of most talented kids in one high school in a while. That's a big statement, I know.
Anyhow, sorry to take the topic out of football season. But we have Norland coming up this week and I am trying to stay in a good mood. We will be without our QB for a good three weeks. Wish us luck!
