Would any of our metro posters be able to identify Metro teams which were handicapped by the old Metro-Suburban classification, but now will be able to make deep playoff runs under the new system?  For example, which formerly beaten down 2M teams will develop overnight into 2A or 3A contenders?  My contention is a 3-7 team in 2M will be a 3-7 team in 2A or 3A, but I'm ready to be proven wrong.  Or they may have to come up with other excuses now that things are more "fair".

One of the reasons the old district champ and district runner up model worked in Florida is due to the fact you could reschedule a district game instead of another and just erase the non district game when bad weather hit.  You had to beat your competition head to head and not count on some secret half butt formula from Maxpreps and Fhsaa.  Cons were loaded district with 3 awesome teams and then the dreaded 2 or 3 team district. Wild cards in old days helped the one issue.

Great news! I hope more keep joining. Anything to stick it to the incompetent buffoons running the FHSAA.

Depends on what "final" is...I've heard of a lot of schools that are unhappy and are going independent. Who knows how other schools will feel once things are reshuffled again?

Just out of curiosity, does anyone have any idea what the total high school student population was during all of those years mentioned?   Or even the total number of high schools?  Just wondering if the number of classes has increased because the number of schools has increased because the student population has increased.

Attract & Gather. That's the name of the game in Florida.

If you need further proof as to the level of unhappiness HS have with the new FHSAA re-districting plan simply check this article out about 8 Orange county schools opting to go independent instead.  That is a pretty significant number.

If the South Florida schools are so big and bad why do they care? Sounds like they might be scared of competition because they don't wanna play each other? Or they just want a trophy given to them?

Of course it was done by a suburb area newspaper. Teams loved  avoiding south Florida talent.

Survey and comments by coaches paint a pretty clear picture.  Hopefully if these changes aren't baked in yet the board will take notice.  Thanks for the insight Josh.

I suspect you’ll hear of a few notable smaller programs go independent over the next few weeks, but I’m not sure it’ll be enough to matter.

I get that they aren't in the lowest 32, but yeah man I don't know how you can look at Fort White, Newberry, Williston, Union, Bozeman, etc. and expect them to compete in the same classification as Chaminade. Bozeman gave up 60 to Madison, and Chaminade would beat Madison just as bad as they beat Bozeman....Williston couldn't get past Hawthorne, who would also lose to Chaminade in spectacular fashion. It is very unfortunate for those fringe 1A/1R schools.

Well I guess they could leave it idk maybe it's just the rural name that gets me still. Could just make it 1A and have the rest of the classes start at 2A

What’s wrong with the rural class? I say just let them be. None of them could make any noise in any other class with what we’re headed back to (maybe Madison/Hawthorne).

Since the start of rural in about 2011, it’s actually had good competitive balance. I think 8 different schools have won a state title.

In comparison with the other schools in the area, sure they're good at it. Which is equitable between STA and the schools around them. That doesn't make it equitable with Columbia in Lake City.

Broward is the 6th largest school district in the nation and you think Columbia getting kids from poor ole santa fe, little ole fort white, & little ole branford puts them on a level playing field with STA?

    columbia county ≈70k people
    broward county ≈2 million people

i respect your opinion, but if you truly believe they are on a level playing field, then I don’t know what to tell you.

some of these schools are only “Goliath” because they have 20 schools in a 10 mile radius to “attract” kids from. that doesn’t happen in lake city Columbia where there is only 1 school in a 20 mile radius.

    how are they punished?
if there was a multiplier i wouldn't have as big of an issue going away from metro/suburban
as it stands today, metro schools have a big advantage to "attract" talent

But they are under the same rules. Columbia could attract talent from all over if the players were talented AND wanted to go there. Even the rural schools are close to each other relatively speaking.

The issue is there isn’t a lot of talent up North. The South has talented oozing out everywhere. Talent literally all over the place. North Florida not so much.
Kids that transfer to Chaminade or STA most likely come from the same proximity as kids who are the same distance to Lake City from Live Oak, Branford, Fort White, Alachua etc etc.
Only difference is the kids going to Chaminade and STA are D1 studs and all those other places up North not so much. But that isn’t South Floridas fault

With more research Why do you find 9 classes an embarrassment? The only two states that's in our population range are Cali and Texas. They have 15 and 10 classes respectively . 10 is normal given our population size. Georgia a state with 1/7th our population has 6 classes. Why is it a problem that Florida has more classes than other states?

So you  think a county of 50000 can pull the same talent as a county of 3 million lol. If you think smaller schools should just go and play and suck it up .then if south Fl is so good why are they so scared to play in a mandatory open division.
