Kudos to Bolles

Bolles just lost a close one to Rockledge.  As much as I hear about some teams dodging good competition, thought it would be nice to recognize a team that clearly challenges itself from a scheduling standpoint.  Below are some of the non-district games scheduled for this year as well as some teams they played in the past who made the playoffs the year they played them.  I cannot think of many teams who have so routinely played against tough competition from throughout the state.  Even back in the early 2000's, Bolles was taking on south FL teams, at home and away.

Trinity, Bolles, and PV are in same district. 

The coaches do a lot without much talent. They were nowhere near as talented as Rockledge and will be at an even bigger deficit against Trinity, yet I still expect a close game. Great program with a lot of respect from a guy whose lived here since 1998.

Thank you for correcting me.  Am a couple of years behind.

It's funny, because some people used to complain about them being stacked, but relative to today, not so much.  Back in the day, if a team approached 10 D1 players, it was unreal.  Now...nothin special.

They’ve got 2 guys now getting D1 offers and 2/3 others getting smaller offers. It’s night and day compared to how some of those first teams I saw

How much of that can be contributed to TCA and UC pulling away quite a few d1 players that used to be easy pickings for Bolles to grab?

Way different kind of kids, they are taking kids from Ed White/Wolfson/Lee/etc. None of those kids were typical Bolles kids. Bartram and Ponte Vedra have taken more kids from Bolles.

In that case things will probably keep getting tougher for Bolles with both those programs being on the rise

High admission standards as well there. 

A team that I’m surprised isn’t better is Fleming Island. I live there and it seems to be the perfect place to build a program

Part of the problem that Bolles has faced:

1) Unofficial rule that they wouldn't play anybody in a class lower than them, so Trinity Christian was off the table until they both moved from 4A and 3A to 5A.
2) Nobody in Jacksonville is consistent, maybe Raines, but Raines was in their district for several years. As a result, Bolles has to look outside the metro area. Heck, even Bartram, PV, and Fleming Island are still the metro area in my mind.
3) I doubt University Christian is taking away that many D1 kids from Bolles, but they are taking away their depth.
4) The rise of wealthy suburbs (Ponte Vedra and the rest of northern St. Johns County) has probably done more to harm Bolles than anything else. Wealthy families no longer have shill out 20K+ a year for a quality education for Johnny, just move to a wealthy suburban gated community and the school is just as good.
