I know this story broke a few weeks back but I wanted to know what we’re you guys take on it.

On my end I just knew it would be to Good to be true to get a competent coaching staff in place and keep them. Smh our football program can not just get a good staff and keep them. Unlike our girls and basketball program with both coaches being at the helm for over 20 years each.

what really gets me is their interview when they get the job it’s the same thing “I want to restore the roar” “it’s time to bring back the Dillard high tradition” but yet the moment a better finiancial opportunity arises they leave. What about loyalty ? What about the kids ? How can they ever improve their craft when they have to start all over with a new coach and system every year!!!

It's tough for sure and I was stunned to see that happen because he seemed like a guy in it for the long haul

Can't fault coaches for making the best financial decision for their family (assuming it is a financial decision). Football coaching and teaching is a full time job plus another 30 hours a week. People forget the strain that this takes on a family and a person.

During a team sport season where you have practices, scouting, games, travel, the small tasks become tasks that are forgotten about. When do you go personnel shopping? When do you have time to do personnel laundry? If you have a very understanding significant other, you can MIGHT be able to make it through. But many times the strain on family for the lack of financial benefit isn't worth it.

Now, I know we don't coach to get rich. The problem is that you end up feeling you are molding a lot of lives, putting up with a lot of headaches with very little reward. Sometimes, I am surprised that more coaches don't jump to low-pressure schools where winning isn't a priority. I mean I can imagine people talented coaches going to the small 2A and 3A schools or the really big 8A schools that don't care if they win as long as the program doesn't get in the news for the wrong reasons.

But word on the street is he left to go to be a corridnator for another college in another states sounds to me he was never in it for the long haul from the get Go. And as far as strain on the family both our basketball coaches have family our boys basketball coach raised a son coached him at Dillard when he got in high school now he’s in college and our coach is still there. Like at the end of the day it’s all about sacrifice and commitment.

I think most coaches do their personnel shopping during the off-season and at summer 7 on 7 tournaments, based primarily on what players on their team just graduated and what their primary position needs are.

And the fact that there are coaches out there that are doing the laundry for their whole staff sure doesn't leave the coaches much time to do their 'personal shopping' or 'personal laundry.'   :D

(Apologies in advance, gatorman, but I just couldn't pass up the chance to play grammar police).

    • There are zero coaches on campus, every single coach left
    • There is 1,750 kids in the school. That would be their fault if they can’t field a team of 40-50 players. I know it sucks about the mass exodus. I get it. But even though they won’t be competitive for the time being they should at least have enough varsity players returning, JV kids, and newcomers to field a team.    They should have had an assist at coach resume spring workouts, and maybe got in on a jamboree with lesser teams or held an inter squad scrimmage. But to cancel everything seems a bit erratic
    • From 2018-2021 when Dillard was one of the top 5 teams in broward we got there because on the beginning we schedule within our actual talent on the field, we showed success that we are atleast a avg program being able to take care of business against avg and below avg teams. And with the right personnel we can become above avg and actually contend.    and with that came a undefeated regular season in 2019 with a regional final birth, a undefeated COVID season in 2020 and a Fri county championship and a 1 loss season in 2021 and a second round exit on the road to homestead.    dillard has to get back to that. But scheduling central, chaminade , sta and etc of back dropping each game by 40 is not gonna help the program.    you can say “aye atleast we scheduled them we didn’t back down” like I’ve said several times on here lol. but there’s no moral victories in football. You either won or you lost.
    • I wouldn’t say okay with it because wether they was on the schedule or not I’m bleeding blue & gray all day ready for smoke with which ever team were lining up across.    but as a former player & coach I also understand that when you’re a second year head coach taking over a program that haven’t seen a deep playoff run since 2019 and over the last 5 years they’ve played chaminade 5 times (0-5), norland once (1-0) Central once (0-1) gibbons once (0-1) & on top of that you have a mass exodus of players after the coach before you left ; you have to build your program back up to a contending program before you try to schedule the big dogs of south Florida.    for EX: last year Dillard at STA, GIBBONS & chaminade on the schedule went (0-3) and each lost was by over 20+ the sta loss was 58-0. But those games had to be played because of the last year of the contract.
