    7A Repeat?

Over the years, I've seen more talented kids suffer in youth football because of coaches practicing "Daddy Ball". but this is the first "Grandma Ball" that I've heard of.

  3. Lmao I gotta kick dirt on a rival every now and then. But when its playoff time I'm gonna always root for any brevard team lmao

  4. They will get something. There is a formula the FHSAA has based upon travel and costs they have to submit to them. Not sure exactly what it is. And no one I know there has a 40 foot yacht... come on man. This was a solution for this year so they didn't have to turn people away. This makes sense.

  5. No...Lake Wales is 2-4 in state semis.

  6. Two of those semifinal losses were to Orlando area teams. Apopka at Apopka in 2001 and Edgewater at Deerfield in 2003.

  7. Deerfield Beach is one of the two. DB has appeared in 9 state semis since 1993 and lost 8 of them. 4 of those 8 losses were at home and 3 of the losses were by a TD or less. In their defense, DB's playoff path the past 15 years has had them cross paths with some very tough Miami-Dade teams Looking at things in a positive light, that means that on average they make a state semi once every 3 years. How many teams would not love to have that track record? And during that time frame, DB is an amazing 9-1 in region finals. They just seem to have a problem when it comes to state semis.

  8. The Darters will have something to say about that statement! I was very impressed with BT's set up when I made the trip back in 2018 to watch their game with Apopka. Though we won, we paid a huge price as Jacyorian Davis-Hamilton ended his high school football career in that game. Though only a junior, his injuries kept him from playing either that year or his senior season. Had he been healthy, the Darters would have beaten Columbus easily last year and JDH would be at a Power 5 program instead of FIU. Hope he ends up doing well in college and possibly beyond.

If I were a coach, I would have met a similar fate as Nelson. To not be given the freedom to put the best team out there in my professional opinion is to place an unacceptable collar. Thus, I, too, would have had to depart.

  10. Wharton has a chance to do a little rebuilding now. This year was a good start for them. Their new head coach will bring a certain amount of excitement to the program that might be enough to keep existing talent there and possibly even attract new talent. That coach is Mike Williams, former Plant/USC/Detroit Lion (and other NFL teams) WR. Whether he's good enough to overcome the Nolebull hex remains to be seen.

But the OL coach apparently looked to other campuses as well . . . https://www.miamiherald.com/sports/high-school/prep-broward/article229077444.html

  13. I believe the Deerfield Beach Bucs is one of the two teams to make it to at least 8 final fours but only one final. If I am correct, they lost that final to Palm Beach Gardens after upsetting the Northwestern Bulls the week before.

  14. I remember now. We played them in the semifinal and scored first but ended up losing to them. They lost one of their two star players in that semi and the next week melted down like a snowman in the May sun to Miramar. The team in question was the Deland Bulldogs! How could I forget the pain of that semi loss.

Darter, that may have been the 2008 4A Championship game. STA beat Lakeland 56-7.

  19. I think @ColumbiaHighFan2017classhits it on the head. I will add one more thing as well. Money matters: you are talking about upper middle class families, a school with a free and reduced lunch rate of 7% with high academic scores. Parents are going to put the money into training/camps/clinics, kids don't have to focus on school or sports or job. They can do sports, get decent grades and have parents provide everything else. Better academics gives principals better flexibility in who they hirer. They can hire another on-campus football coach. A growing area allows football coaches to get staff positions at local elementary and middle schools as PE teachers (instead of a more rigorous math, English, science, or social studies).

  23. I'll take a stab at it I believe Bartram Trail is the only one on the list who has had only one head coach and the fact of that stability is what makes them a great program as well as the fact their coach is very good at developing QBs which overall is not a strongly developed position in Florida historically compared to other power states

  25. Fortunately It does not rain in Tallahassee at this time of year, Perspective. If it ever did, they might have to call a game played there the Soak at Doak, or something like that, because it would be a real mess..

  27. Do the South Florida teams get a stipend when they qualify for state to have to take that tough journey? South Florida teams make up at least half the participants every year, and they didnt ask for the game to be 8-9 hours away. I really hope the higher ups at the FHSAA do right by them and give the money to the schools to help with travel instead of buying the 40 foot yacht. Lol. They can settle for the 35 footer. Everyone has to sacrifice.
