You are being too gracious with Viera. Commentator said over 100 yards in penalties in first half and not sure if all were accepted by Cocoa. Most were execution penalties, just not ready to play the game. What, 4-5 penalties on first drive of game. They had 2-3 first downs, moved the ball and ended up punting from where they started. Commentator said Viera scored on the back of the endzone catch that was called incomplete( feed didn't show viewers endzone), that plus terrible time management at end of half-Viera could have been up 17-10.  Thought Viera and Norton would miss USF Atkins and it showed. Norton, scrambling till he could find Atkins last year, was too much of their offense.  Cocoa is Cocoa again and should fight for state, Viera defense improved from last year  but offense has a lot to clean up not sure if season is long enough to do it.

They destroyed Gateway on the road 42-12 so impressive start. QB Denaburg must be younger brother of Mason stud looked impressive last week in KOC. I would think they might be most improved team in Brevard.

Both teams have work to do. Penalties are the downfall of great teams. If both teams can get rid of the penalties they will be  Exceptional.
Cocoa vs Viera. Teams looked evenly matched. Both had a lot of penalties. The score should have been 10 - 10 at halftime but Viera ran out of time at the 2 yd line. Cocoa goes in with a 7 point lead. In the 3rd Viera ties the score and pins Cocoa back at their 15 yd line forcing Cocoa to punt. Viera roughs the punter in the endzone giving Cocoa a 1st and 10 on their 30. Cocoa scores making it 17 - 10. More penalties on Viera and some desperation gives Cocoa 10 more points. The game ended at 27 - 10 Cocoa, but for 3 quarters it was a highly competitive game.
Look for Vieira Cocoa and Rockledge to lead Brevard into the playoffs.

There is no such thing as a "top 500". It's a figment of the imagination of the national board (and Ned's) mind.
Manatee won a road playoff game against one of the top ranked teams in 8A. They also played Braden River close, even when BR had a star player playing who missed most of the other big games for BR. They were good. I said they weren't great. Somehow, out of that, you've decided that means they "stink". That's stupid.

There is zero evidence to support your assertion that Manatee stinks. Certainly, last season's results do not support it. Believe it or not, there is a MASSIVE world of football teams in between stacked, top 25 national teams and teams who "stink". Teams that aren't national rankings-worthy, but are still good teams. Manatee was a good, but not great, team last year. This year remains to be seen. But, there are reasons to believe they will be as good or better than last year.

It's still two of the more successful programs in state history. Manatee hasn't been an elite team the last few years. But, they've also been unfairly characterized as garbage by some of the national board folks. It's a proud program and they should have a pretty good team again. Saying they suck or aren't worthy watching simply because they probably don't have a team worthy of national rankings is absurd. It's bad for HS football, IMO.
If it ends up being a running clock game, of course I get why folks would tune away at that point. But, it's 0-0 as we speak

"Central Florida" refers only to Orlando metro area. It's odd because if one looks at a map they might think other areas would be included. That Polk County isn't central Florida, but Daytona Beach is, is a concept I simply lack the intelligence to understand.

Congrats you beat a team I have nothing to do with.  I did attend the first half of that game and it was clear to me Lakeland was the better team so I left.  Your DC is a good friend of mine and I actually attended 3 Lakeland games rooting for them.  Not sure what your point is.  The transferring of players to create super teams has some what ruined high school football for me.  Sorry you don't get it.

Not even trying to argue that point........ I agree totally!  The genius however I was responding to, asked who (as if to say its not happening at Lakeland HS), so I provided the facts................its pisses me off every year when I go over the Manatee roster to spot transfers, to see it happening at Manatee too. I used to enjoy going to the freshman and JV games to see upcoming talent being developed......unfortunately and I blame the privates for the most part..........................circumstances have led to what we have today.

Old School, I am not going to comment on the rights and wrongs of the Mandarin situation. However, I will comment of the state of high school football in Florida (nationally is probably not much different though I don't know enough to know this with certainty). Regardless of whether you are a public school or a private school, the perceived way to win a state title in almost all of the divisions is the recruit the talent of other schools. In the past, private schools could do this much more effectively than public schools did. After all, they were never constrained by boundaries and financially as well as ethically were constrained only by their budgets and overall philosophy towards athletics vis a viz academics.
Today, with the state legislature changing Florida's statutes to accommodate open boundaries, public schools that so chose, particularly those in high density population areas (Dade, Fort Lauderdale, Palm Beach County, Greater Orlando, Tampa, and Greater Jacksonville),  can also build sports dynasties. This certainly has the effect of making the path to a state championship or a finals appearance easy. So, in a sense, I can't fault those that take this path. It is not as if Mandarin was the only public school to do this. For I would have to be a fool to believe that Lakeland, Miami Northwestern or if they had made it, Wekiva and Carol City, consisted of all home grown talent.
The problem is that by certain schools doing this, it takes the interest out of the game to some degree and almost certainly has contributed to the decline in attendance at the State Championships. If I am Baker High School what pleasure do I take from being second to an all star team?
In a sense, the trend in athletics mirrors where this country has gone as a nation. We are rapidly heading to third world status with respect to the gap between rich and poor. That this trend manifests itself in football is hardly surprising.

Did you not hear the broadcasters for last night's Lakeland/STA title game talk about all the players that transferred into Lakeland this year? Riverview's QB was at Cardinal Mooney last year, that offense without him would not had taken them to the semi-finals this year and then we had the post about Madison and the whole charter school concept, The Venice QB was at a different school last year as well...................I dont like what is happening to high school football one bit, but the FHSAA ignored for years what the privates like STA were doing to tilt the playing field to their advantage......and rather than fix it got the state legislators involved and now we have what we have and it is what it is. Dont like that you've decided to single out Mandarin when every other public school including the likes of Lakeland did much the same....................I'm just glad the private schools are at least in some instances having to take heaping doses of their own medicine!
