Manatee is a pretty tough place to visit. It's not the fan base, per se, but it's the way the stadium is set up, and just the overall aura of the place. Dad's stadium at Tampa Plant, is another pretty intimidating place. The fans pack the place and the stadium is small and brings the fans very close to the field.
Apopka's fan base can be pretty rowdy, but I would not say they are especially intimidating.

Am thinking of regular season games, where they have played a number of teams from larger classes of late..

....says who?. The organization is run by a third party. I don't see them using the word "official" on their website.

Lakeland rushed for 358 yards in it incredible 45-42 2OT win over St Thomas Aquinas in the 2006 5A finals. In one of the best rushing efforts in state title game history, Chris Rainey of Lakeland rushed for 276 yards and 3TD's on 26 runs, including 2 runs of 50+ yards. Lakeland only attempted 2 passes the entire game for a total of 5 passing yards. Jeremiah Harden of STA did quite a bit of damage of his own, rushing for 174 yards and 4 TD's in the game.
Rainey scorched STA in 2004 as well and Lakeland ended up with 356 rushing yards in that game. Lakeland did pass the ball quite a bit more in that game, though. So, right teams just a different year, Flo. Good job!

So, where is the money going? Florida public schools get over $9,000 per student per year. That is the highest in the world. Yet the US is reanked 28th in the world in education and falling fast. There is one African country which is ranked higher and most the Asian countries are near the top. Vietnam, a country we bombed into the stone age, is ranked 8th best in the world. The state of Florida actually doesn't run the public school system. Local school boards and administrators do. Property taxes pay for the schools.

In 2010, Cocoa's star back at the time, Chevelle Buie, was suspended for the semifinal and final games. As stated above, Cocoa beat Madison County in the semi and then beat Glades Central in the final..all with only 1 completed pass. That tells you how deep they were at the rb position. They had a tough defense that year, giving up only 44 points in 4 playoff games.

This was a very tight call. Both Cocoa and Osceola have played in 5 state title games, and neither has ever completed a passing TD in one of those games. In their 5 title games, Osceola has attempted slightly more passes, has had a game in which they completed more than 5 passes(6 vs Titusville in the 1982 3A final), and had more than 1 game with more than 40 passing yards (just barely). So, the answer is Cocoa!
Cocoa beat Madison County(another big running team) at Boot Hill in the 2010 state semis. You know there was not much passing in that game! As it turned out, Cocoa did not complete a pass that game, and only completed 1 in the state final that year.
Cocoa HS State Title Game Stats
2017 91 yds rush/62 yds pass(4completions/13attempts) LOSS
2016 425 yds rush/0 yds pass(0/1) WON
2010 131 yds rush/22 yds pass(1/1) WON
2009 316 yds rush/37 yds pass(4/4) WON
2008 115 yds rush/37 yds pass(3/14) WON
TOTAL 1088 yds rush/158 yds pass

Cocoa vs Bolles 2016 is the game he is referencing. Cocoa went 0-1 on pass attempts and still won 31-17.

Regarding Tim Shifflet, he took over from Larry Gergley as head coach at WP in 2007. So that would make him 11 seasons there, with the 12th this year.
Prior to that, he was a coordinator under Larry and was also with him at Bishop Moore before that.

His brother Gerald Gergley was one of my professors at UCF. “Godfather” of central Florida wrestling. Really funny and interesting dude. I believe both brothers are in the University of Buffalo athletic hall of fame.

Here is the website. Badbird, you owe ColumbiaFan an apology, sir. It is not his fault that 46 of the top 50 teams in the state did not compete for the state championship. And as far as no teams from south of Palm Beach being on the list....last time I checked there is nothing down there but palmetto scrub and alligators.

HWY you are correct. Larry Gergley left Winter Park after 1996 and came back in 2000. John Rankin was the coach. So Winter park has had 3 coaches
