Imagine being good enough to play for a state title and then not being able to win a single playoff game..for decades.  Of all the teams that have won at least one FHSAA playoff game, this team has the longest dry spell of any team without a playoff win.

Who is the team?

a. Fort Lauderdale

b. Hialeah

c. Miami Beach

d. Moore Haven

e. Pompano Beach

Ft Lauderdale HS played Melbourne HS in the 1966 Class 2A state final in Ft Lauderdale.   Ft Lauderdale has yet to win a playoff game since.  Melbourne's best effort since was a 4A state semifinal appearance in 1990.

Here is a broadcast of the game on WMMB 1240 AM in Melbourne...still around today.  Unless one traveled, this was the only way.  HS games on TV were quite rare until much later on.

It was Melbourne 24-0 at halftime and they eventually went up 31-0.  Final score was 31-12.

Melbourne HS 387 yards rushing, 130 yards passing, 16 first downs

Fort Lauderdale HS 152 yards rushing, 114 yards passing, 11 first downs
