Yeah bartram trail will really love Columbia, once we beat them in the playoffs in multiple sports this year
Just like 2015-2016 school year

OldSchoolLion got a reaction from Trelle in Small town football
...me. too. ....15k or less people. Looks like Midland/Odessa together has about 250k!
Guess it is all relative. When I was in China some locals called a city of 4 million people "small"

OldSchoolLion reacted to DisabledAccount in Small town football
To be fair classification doesn't really mean a town is small or large
Columbia is 7a
Suwannee is 5a
Both are considered small towns

OldSchoolLion reacted to SPCjessica2004 in Oxbridge Academy
Darter, you're 100% thinking what I'm thinking. It's not cheap, so when athletes are getting in for pennies on a dollar and the non-athletes are essentially paying for cost it tends to be magnified. It's a tough break for a program that had finally broken through to the state championship game.
It's an interesting story since Oxbridge had all the pieces to be successful and become a year in, year out top 15 team in Florida and top 50-60 program in America. They might need to follow the same path as U-school, another 3A team that caught fire quickly, but couldn't sustain the program. Shut up shop for a year and re-open with an all new mindset.

I think the affluent parents that pay full ride are rebelling against the athletes who get a free of deeply subsidized ride. Probably as simple as that. Oxbridge ain't cheap. The name implies that Oxford/Cambridge = Oxbridge.

OldSchoolLion reacted to DisabledAccount in Oscar Smith vs Florida's Random Top 50 Teams
Yet these teams that caught up with Miami are colleges who recruit FL
Every major university sets up a pipeline (or tries to) in the sunshine state

OldSchoolLion got a reaction from Floridatech in Oscar Smith vs Florida's Random Top 50 Teams
Back in 08, Oscar Smith went undefeated and got some national attention. I am not sure why, other than their record. It doesn't appear they had played any big name teams in the years prior. And since, they have struggled against OOS competition. So, they may have never deserved to be ranked so highly...shortcomings of these national polls. I do think they are a solid program and Vero should be proud to have gone up there and beat them.

OldSchoolLion reacted to Floridatech in Vero Beach Coach
The other day I was talking to the DB coach about the team, schedules and the playoffs....
He said that the Venice game should be another tough on the road game for them and I asked him if it will help them with playoffs this year and he said it should....
I also talked about the future schedule with him and I told him that next year I wanna help them reschedule Mainland for the spring game next year and reschedule Palm Beach Central again (hopefully they win states this year) and I also told him that we can get South Dade on the schedule next year for back to back road games in Dade County, but he said he wants home and home. I told him that I post here and I can help get games scheduled with them, so he said that I can help with that next year and if that happens I'm going to see if we can get games with AHD, Glades Central and Oxbridge too because these are the only PBC teams we never played before.

OldSchoolLion reacted to Joshua Wilson in ESPYS Best Coach Award going to the fallen Stoneman Douglas coaches
Sure some of you all heard about this already, but if you have been under a rock, ESPN's ESPYS is honoring the fallen Stoneman Douglas coaches with the Best Coach Award. Such a moving tribute to Coach Feis, Coach Beigel, and Coach Hixon for the bravery they had in trying to protect the students. We are Eagles when the families accept the award on July 18.

OldSchoolLion got a reaction from peezy28 in Venice John Peacock
As diverse as Florida is, I bet there are a lot of coaches and teachers out there who do a whole lot of extraordinary things to support others that we never hear about. And some humble folks don't want the world to know about these acts.
So, maybe we should seek to learn more about an individual before judging him.

OldSchoolLion reacted to badbird in Quiz-2017 State Title Series
I was just trying to point out why two bordering counties have played in the state title recently and the Central Florida area becoming better and the panhandle worse was one reason. if they moved the North/South line lower in each classification like to Miami it might happen even more lol

OldSchoolLion reacted to Floridatech in During the spring, koc, and regular seasons
Vero have quietly beaten teams who have been state champions since 2000 or teams who have made deep playoff runs......
Palm Bay won state championships in 2000 and 2002 also made it to semi finals in 2010
Lincoln won state titles in 1999 2001 2010 and were state runner ups in 2008 and 2012
Dwyer won state championships in 2009 and 2013 they were runner ups in 2000 as well and made other serious runs in the playoffs in 2008 and 2010
Oscar Smith Virginia won states in 2008 and 2011 they were runner ups in 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017 they are like 40-11 in the playoffs from 2004-2017
Pahokee won states in 98 and 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008 2016 and multiple time state runner ups
Viera state runner-up in 2015 and was robbed of a victory over Plant last year
If we beat Venice that'll add to the resume wish we would've played South Dade in that scrimmage

One of biggest issues in Lake City currently is
1) the lack of things to do for the 14-24 type age group and as a result many move away to cities they perceive is better or they stay living here and will drive out of town just to have fun (Gainesville or Jacksonville)
2) the lack of high profile jobs opening up, currently the jobs opening up are not going to attract higher income people and is going to as a result limit the growth the city is making
Lake city has made some stupid ass decisions going back to early 1900s when they pushed UF out of town and they keep sabotaging any attempt to grow and now it's too late to fix it
Gainesville should be thanking us every day because had we been smart they wouldn't be relevant today

OldSchoolLion got a reaction from SPCjessica2004 in Transfer Season 2018
Hey Jessica, Look what I wrote hours before you posted this. So we worry about the fairness of placing restrictions on transferring because it might hinder a student/athlete's ability to advance himself. Bet the kid who transferred out of Hillsborough felt his "rights" were imposed upon at some point. ...enough so he transferred. It looks like he has played for Hillsborough at least the last couple of years.
Imagine if students were getting displaced from AP classes when "smarter" kids transferred in. Can you imagine the outrage?
