HornetFan reacted to Jullian in WOW!! Treasure Coast STUNS AHP on the road 29-21
I’m one of them..........Having said that, it’s way to early to count em out. Let’s see how they do with Chaminade. I still think 8a is loaded in every region this year.

Hornet, thanks for the update as I was aware about him rehabbing the ACL injury just was hoping to see him perform last night. The Shaw kid did help the running game in the 2nd half, so I am sure that Gibbs return will make that running attack look much better than it did last night.

Terrance Gibbs (WP 4 star senior RB - UF commit with over 30 D-1 offers) missed all last season with a torn ACL. According to my source on the team, Terrance is physically ok, but may not play in the first 3 games of the season. He's been working out, but hasn't been participating in any hitting drills yet. He was on the sideline last night, but not dressed out. WP was also without 3 star junior RB Amaris Shaw (8 D-1 offers so far, including FSU and Tennessee) for most of 1st half; he played the 2nd half and had some nice runs. When Terrance returns, WP will have a strong running game. WP's defense played well for the 2nd week in a row.

Thank you very much, I attribute that to the new head coach, as of last year. He was my assistant. But when I got the head football job, I stepped aside for him. He is a awesome coach. He is who made the wrestling program, I was just the facilitator. Now i just assist.

If what I said was taken in a way to dishonor the Osceola Ad,there was never an implication of cheating. What i said truly was not intended that way. I coach against him in wrestling and have much respect. In my opinion I feel he would fight for his kids, not illegally, but in the correct way, where other ad's seem to try to disqualify kids rather than fight for them. I apologize if the words i used were taken in any other way. Meaning he would contact guidance and work with the counselors and try to figure the gpa's. That is fighting for the kids, Not saying, The kids should have tried better in the past and when the grades eventually get posted , maybe they will be high enough

So true, Darter. I try to give my wife advice on how she can lose weight and cook better, but she never seems to appreciate my help.
(Truth is, my wife is in much better shape than I am and is a terrific cook)

If an hour or less is the cutoff, then you may want to go watch Charlotte, Manatee or one of the teams from Fort Myers play. If you are more flexible on distance, then see @Cat_Scratchsuggestion. Another flexible suggestion would be to come to the Orlando area and watch Sarasota Riverview (from your neck of the woods) take on the defending 8A State champion, Sanford Seminole. This game could be an attractive one. However, the drive would be a bit more than 2 hours.

Best game of the week in Florida will be battle of the Saints as in St. Thomas vs St. Frances in Ft. Lauderdale. I believe it is being played at Brian Piccolo stadium.

Sent you a message on Monday, still waiting for a reply.
In the meantime I am not going to replace the Venice vs. Cardinal Gibbons match-up for the pick 'em. If this is allowed to move forward, I will try to replace cancelled games if the cancellation is known early enough in the week (this week it was, but I was hoping to hear back from admin prior to adjusting). For those who have picked that game, I will simply move the confidence ranks up for every other game and we will lose 1 point for the week for that game.

HornetFan got a reaction from Perspective in Hallandale officially unable to field a team
Maybe the FHSAA and school administrators should grow a backbone (I would liked to have used another term, but you probably get the point) and investigate if recruiting by other schools was responsible for the demise of football at Hallandale. This is a disgrace and too many people involved in HS football are willing to just say "oh well". Your school could be next; it's time to address recruiting and actually do something about it.

I am totally about the student - athlete, student comes first always. Our teams average gpa last year was a 2.8. With this issue that we have now it only affects 5 players, which means I only have 5 players below a 2.4 gpa. So it seems we are working in the right direction

I do that personally. I keep up with all the kids grades.

Hallandale was at the BCAA media day and had 5 kids in the picture. Lauderdale already announced they scheduled someone else and the Heritage game that was canceled is week 4 or 5, so definitely not Covid related. Maybe they are trying to get kids cleared to play JV or back end of V schedule. Either way it is sad that transfers could affect a program this way. I mean they are a 5A public school not some small charter or anything.

That's exactly what I would expect from a coach and it's great that your priorities are in the right order. With 5 players below a 2.4 gpa, it does seem that your staff is working in the right direction, but still have a way to go. As I've never been a coach and haven't had to focus on the grades of so many kids at the same time, I don't profess to know how you feel because so often, coaches assume the role of quasi-father and authority figure to many kids. I can only imagine how overwhelming it can get, and with the pandemic and remote schooling, it has made the task of educating kids even more difficult, but it's admirable what you coaches do for the kids. Is there a member of your staff whose primary responsibility is to track the academic progress of your student/athletes especially those that may tend to struggle meeting academic requirements, not only during the football season, but during the entire school year, including Summer school if necessary? I ask that not to be critical, but to understand the task that you face. If this position doesn't currently exist, it may be a thing to consider. I wish you the best; don't give up on those kids.

Don’t know if this is final for the rest of the year BUT WOW!!!! JUST WOW!!
not only do we have them on the schedule for week 3 but all I could think about is all the teams who now have to find another game/the fan base/ just the over all sadness of this, all because kids can just up & transfer at a drop of a dime like this to help one school & decimate the other.

It sounds like you and the AD need to have a meeting and figure a way to meet your team's practice requirements and still schedule mandatory study halls. It's hard to argue against the AD's motives; he wants to make sure these kids are successful academically so they can be successful in life in the future; football should not be the first priority if it gets in the way of a kid's education. Some kids are well disciplined when it comes to their studies and may not need a mandatory study hall, but to exempt the kid with the 3.9 gpa from the study period could be divisive for the team. Kids should not be encouraged to try for a 2.0 gpa just so they can be eligible to play football; they should be encouraged to excel in the classroom so they meet or exceed the same college academic entrance requirements that non-athletes must achieve.
